[0018] Cloud

  • Woo: Imagine, I’ve met two new friends in the forest, Shadow the fox and Sid the squirrel.
  • Sandra: Sweet! Let’s hope you’ll get along with them as well as I do with my best friends Larisa and Cloud.
  • Woo: Cloud? Isn’t that a rather strange name?
  • Sandra: Yes, it is. Cloud’s parents were obsessed with the video game Final Fantasy VII at that time. Cloud was the name of the hero of the story.
  • Woo: Ha ha. They surely regret calling him like that now.
  • Sandra: I don’t really think so…
  • David: Get ready for your sword training, Cloud! Mr. Masaru is already waiting!

Oh Cloud, you androgynous little punk. What would the fangirls(boys?!?!) do without you.

    Ok… I just have to say this…

Sandra looks a LOT like Roll (from the Mega Man series of video games), it’s kinda frightening… (I’m sure this has actually already been said somewhere before, but I haven’t visited the forums… yet)

Anyway, I’m Lovin’ the Comic so far, keep it up :)

Wow, both of Sandra’s friends have FF VII names. Funny how there’s a hero and a boss in the matter. I wonder if their personalities are the same. Does Sandra have a rival? Can’t wait to see more of this comic. Keep up the great work!

I had to google “roll mega man” because I had no idea who this person is. But you are right, Sandra and Roll are looking similar.

“Wow, both of Sandra’s friends have FF VII names.”

Oh my, I totally forgot about Elena from the Turks. I will probably change her name because that was not intentional at all.

I’d forgotten how long ago FFVII was… seems like only yesterday.

Well, out the names from FFVII, they could’ve chosen worse. Imagine if he was named Rufus. Poor ol’ Rufus the Doofus…

…I actually think that someone out there really tried to name their son/daughter after FFVII. I just hope they never managed. :XD I rofl’ed at the last panel! I just hope he likes sword training. :XD

I see you did … I rather liked it as it was, pointing out Cloud as an odd name but making no mention of Elena because it’s common enough. Ah, well. No real damage done.

Actually, I remember hearing from someone who attended an anime convention who was talking to a couple with the last name of Valentine. Along with them was their first-born son, Vincent

I can’t honestly say I’ve never thought about naming my kids after video game characters…

    Hahaha, awesome.

Cloud, eh? I’ve met quite a few people named after fictional characters. For example, a while back, I met a woman named Arwin working at a Home Depot. And I have a cousin is named after Wolverine. (Well, Logan, not “Wolverine”, although that would be funny)

I have never played FF VII, but I know the game fairly well and I am a fan of some of the other FF. I had made a character before I had known about FF VII in which I name Cloud. A lot people asumed that the character was inspire by Cloud from Final Fantsy because of how popular he is. Though my character was inspired by a character name Cloud he was from a movie and comic named The Storm Riders.

I was just about to give up on this, but I’ll admit that was funny. Kind of reminds me of a joke a comedian once told ‘I know for a fact that it works pretty well to let your kids pick their own names when they are old enough. I knew two such kids myself. And let me tell you, Chewbacca and Skeletor were the coolest kids in school.’

Anyone else notice that Clouds Father looks remarkable similar to Tetsuya Nomura?

I love the comic, but as a native english speaker I’d say “Mr. Masaru is waiting,” instead of “Mr. Masaru is already waiting.” Just nitpicking, really, but occasionally the wording doesn’t feel natural. It’s grammatically correct, just an odd way of saying it, because “already” implies that somthing happened sooner-than-usual, while “waiting” implies that the subject has been around longer-than-usual.
Sorry, grammer nerd here. If it helps, I see similar slip-ups in other German-to-English webcomics, like Erzengel.
