Weirdly, I’ve never seen insulin being taken by hypodermic needle (outside of a hospital).
All the diabetics I know use the adjustable insulin pens, even those I talk to state-side. It being preferable to have hair-thin needles on an insulin pen, than have to use one large enough to draw insulin from a bottle.

Then again it wouldn’t make a convincing drug controversy comic if she was being told off for poking herself in the stomach or thigh with an over-sized cartridge pen, rather than having a dangerous looking needle. There’d be almost no basis for the drug storyline.

I hated the “Zero Tolerance Policy” They tried to take away my Eppipen. I mean, really. If i’m having an asthma attack i can make it to the nurses office. But if i go into anaphalatic shock without that thing its over. OVER i tell you.

You know, it just occurred to me, that if her blood sugar level was DOWN, Insulin would have been the last thing that she should have taken as it would have dropped her level even further down.

Sorry to be a pain about that, but living with a Diabetic left a mark on me.
