@ Sio: I don’t know what to say to you, except that I’m crying. I’m so sorry about your goddaughter, and my brother and I have had multiple scares, as we’re both Type 1 diabetics. I’ve actually had issues like this at school where substitute teachers refused to believe that my Novolog pen was really insulin and I was sent to the principal’s office. I have a large heart for people like you who care enough to educate people about the disease like I try to, but I’m still young, so I unfortunately don’t make much of a difference. I’m so, so grateful to you. Good luck to you with your diabetes, and God be with you.

@ David: I have Type 1 Diabetes, and it really does suck I am constantly being gawked at by my ability to stab an insulin pen in my arm in public. Yes, you can inject insulin in more places than just your stomach, though that’s my preference, as it’s easier. You can inject in the upper arm, stomach, butt, and thighs. Anywhere else, the insulin isn’t as easily accepted into the pancreas, if at all. It’s interesting to me that you said “diabetics,” as in more than one. I’m a little jealous. I live in San Antonio, TX, a city of over 1 million, but I only know two other diabetics!

For future reference, insulin shots go into the lower bit of the stomach. At least, for the diabetics I know. Not sure about whether or not it varies depending on the person or type.

Would be fun to scare the hell out of people like that.
