- Larisa: Hi Sandra, this is Larisa. The school board just called. They’ll decide about the insulin ban tomorrow.
- Woo: PAI ATENTON TOO ME! I HAS THE BOMP!
- Sandra: Not now, Woo.
- Sandra: I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
- Larisa: Thanks. I’m sure they’ll stop this insanity… One thing still bothers me, though.
- Sandra: Which is?
- Larisa: My parents wanted to forbid me to set anything on fire ever again.
- Sandra: Sounds… reasonable.
- Larisa: Reasonable? … Whatever, after some arguing, we’ve finally found a compromise.
- Sandra: A compromise?
- Larisa: Yeah. I’m now allowed to set things on fire twice a month if I’ve done all my homework already and can be reached on my cell anytime.

Wait… Those Russian stacking dolls there. The one being opened first looks to be screaming in agony, then has the cartoony dead face, and the one inside looks utterly terrified at what just happened. That’s… so random! And a little depressing! Ah, well, they’re just inanimate ojects (I hope)

Yay! Matryoshka dolls! I haven’t seen those things in ages! I’m guessing the one with the “utterly terrified” doll is the third one from the outside inwards; the “screaming in agony” doll having been put off-camera.
By the way, what’s a bomp? or is it a way to show Woo has bad handwriting?
And while I’m at it, are we ever going to see Woo in a shopping cart in the strip?
Oh, and I had to look up the spelling for the Russian dolls. I always called them “mamushka dolls” when I was a kid

The matrioska side gag is wonderful!
Yes. I love how each frame has a second story going on. Kind of shows how even the artist is getting board with supporting such a serious arcing story line. In frame 1, Woo is pulling for attention like a star actor, having had all his lines cut for several episodes. Frame 2 and 3 are using the dolls in a very attention grabbing bit of comedy. (And, I agree that the ‘dead’ and ‘Uh-Oh’ dolls are the second and third ones in.) And, frame 4 answers that ‘Bomp’ is a bad spelling for a ‘water bomb’.
Besides, the poor spelling seems rather natural. After all, we can’t possibly expect a raccoon to have had a proper schooling education. Any writing skills at all are to be considered amazing, in such a case.
“So, Tarzan. I would like you to prepare a journal of your experiences out here in the jungle. Please write a hundred pages of…”
“Me, Tarzan. You, Jane.”

The matryoshka dolls are excellent and it’s nice to know Larisa will still be lighting things on fire in the future.
I really like the two additional visual gags, too. I was thinking for quite some time until I came up with them. If there is that much text in your panels, you better take extra care of the stuff going on in the “background” so that your strip does not look boring.
Well, it’s based on a real story. Sadly, this comic hasn’t really gotten into why it actually happened.

I don’t know. I’d like to see Cloud bring a sword to school (he IS a swordsman, right?) and see if they ban THAT over insulin.
Autismdegree: Well, considering they’ve got zero-tolerance policies for weapons too (using their own ridiculous definition of “weapon” (not that I wouldn’t agree that a sword is one)), it probably wouldn’t be a good idea for him to do so…
And you might want to think about that policy for a minute, too.
Especially considering that the mind is one of humanity’s greatest weapons…
I’m kind of surprised Cloud hasn’t been suspended for having plastic knives in the school cafeteria. We KNOW what he can do with one of those….
Well there was a girl suspended for having a (deadly weapon) eyebrow shaver that could only cut hair. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Cloud gets suspended for plastic knives in the cafeteria.
Did the sign Woo is holding suddenly increase its spelling mistakes? I’m pretty sure I remember it saying “Pay attention to me” last night (June 9, 9pm, EST), instead of saying “Pai atention too me”

This is a rare case in which the side gags top the main punchline.
I have been enjoying this strip for a while now… but after the last couple installments I move that while Larisa remain a supporting character here, she deserves her own spin-off strip.

Did not even notice the dolls until I read the comments, that’s why doing so is a good idea even if it slows down catching up with the strips. I guess I don’t find the conversation had between the girls boring at all.

Neat. I am a diabetic and this is the first time I’ve read a comic with a diabetic in there… wonder if it will show up again. Anyway, this is a funny story arc that I’ve enjoyed a lot, but still, the school is not completely incompetent…

There are some things others find funny, that I find disturbing: basically anything mean. So I understand. This time, I could tell it was only the artist playing around. It’s harsh humor, but as I knew it was only a subtle, side-show joke, I laughed. I think it shows that the creators of “Sandra and Woo” give more thought to such things than most of us. Presented with a real set of nested dolls, that’s all I would see. If I saw them as little people that would be hurt if ‘opened’ to reveal the others, I just couldn’t play with them.
