The current story arc started with this strip: Bribe Money.
Dang, another tragic incident of violence happening in computer games because of reality. 😉 This will be the last Final Fantasy VII related joke for some time, though.
If you should have trouble remembering her because she’s not been around much yet, that’s indeed Larisa. You can expect to see her more often in the future.
Update: In the comment section of this strip our reader gerardo tejada raised the valid point that Larisa can’t eat ice cream herself since she’s a diabetic. However this shouldn’t prevent her from inviting Cloud to the ice cream parlor. She could still drink a cup of coffee or something like that there.
In other news, we have a new t-shirt design for women and girls in our store. It is based on the ironic twist to the political slogan “Viva la Revolution” seen in our popular strip Viva La Revolution Or Do Re Mi Ti La Do Re Mi So Fa Do Re Do. If you don’t like the pink color of the t-shirt you can chose among several other ones, as well as other shirt types.
- Larisa: Welcome back, Cloud… I’ve got a very special present for you!
- Cloud: Really? Thank you!
- Cloud: “On Forging Katanas and the Art of Swordplay” by Master Musashi!? This book’s been out of print for decades!!
- Larisa: I found it on Ebay.
- Larisa: In the mood for a bowl of ice cream?
- Cloud: Yeah, sure..
- Richard: Why are you replaying Final Fantasy 7? And why are you attacking Cloud and Aeris with Tifa on purpose?
- Sandra: I’VE GOT MY REASONS!!

I just want to note that I have a friend who’s diabetic, and he eats junk [including ice cream] all the time. :/
Viva la revolución, actually. Vive la révolution also works.
@ Rabid_Fox:
i have the PC version

sorry for the double post but i HAVE to comment on that.
first i agree i wasnt sad when she died. here is the aeris rundown,
if you played crisis core, you know that Zack LITERALLY DIED JUST TRYING TO SEE HER AGAIN. he gave her his all. but when cloud asked if she were serious with her last bf (Zack) she said “no but i liked him for a while” WTF
second, she was always trying to wedge her way between cloud and tifa, who were OBVIOUSLY better for each other, Hell i’d rather see cloud with yuffie over aeris
Ahh sneaky Larisa…pulling the Total Proper Lady technique, very deceptive indeed…well given her chaotic nature randomness is definitely running through her veins! and it also worked to torment Sandra somehow……ahh hidden affection….its a sad thing

Given that she is on insulin, yes she can have ice cream, (although most places now sell sugar free as well). She merely needs to adjust the amount of insulin she takes to account for the increased sugar. There can be problems if you get the adjustment wrong, so it is better, and wiser to avoid the sugar.
Alright, a talking raccoon is halfway plausible, but a dad that can on sight identify FF7 AND identify characters.. bullshit.
Hi. Diabtic here. We can in fact eat ice cream even if we use a syringe and not an insulin pump. I was excited to see you have a diabetic character but please make sure you get your facts right.
Many thanks,

just wondering, I know some german, and i was reading these comics in english, and decided to read the german ones so htatI might improve it, and I was wondering, either my german has gotten worse since highschool, or the dialogue changes between english and german, or perhaps I am crazy?
Heh… took me so long to actually acknowledge that Aeris was supposed to be a love-rival to Tifa in FFVII. All the fans I encountered in those days were Sephiroth fangirls, for the most part.
.
I mean right from the start it seemed blatent that Tifa was Cloud’s waifu… and Aeris joined the party, and she was the weird little alien girl. Didn’t really think about it. Then I read about the date scenes in the Golden Saucer, and was surprised that Aeris got one (and more surprised that it was taken seriously)… and then she died.
The immediate reaction to Aeris’s death was “Why is this being taken so seriously? She was just a walkig plot-device, who cares?” … plus a bit of amusement on account of Sephiroth dropping out of nowhere being quite hilariously contrived.
Then by the second playthrough, I had realised there was supposed to be some sort of romance between Cloud and Aeris that was so utterly timid, tame and subtle as to have completely escaped my notice previously… and so by the second time, I was laughing when she died… a glorious tirade of mockery for the redundant nobody who was treated as a big deal.
Tifa wins. Every time.
One of these days I’ll get hands on a copy of FFVII and afterwards this will likely make more sense to me. The only problem is that the prices for working copies of FFVII are insane. Not quite as insane as unopened NES games though, while I have no interest in buying one new, 2000$ for a copy of Dragon Warrior is crazy.
That last panel made my day.

There was a PC version. It can be found online and downloaded. Just saying.

I have to set this straight, having Type 1 diabetes myself. There is a grave misconception that diabetics can’t eat sugar. In fact, the problem with the disease is that since EVERYTHING a person eats turns to sugar once you digest it in some way or another, a diabetic’s body can’t use any of it. We inject insulin so that our cells can absorb and use the food we eat. It’s perfectly logical that Larisa eats both an icecream and a coffee because they both require insulin to eat, and then gets some very weird looks as she whips out a syringe in public.

Hax? You mean you can’t hit your own party in VII? It’s obviously been way too long since I played it. What do you do if you get hit with a sleep effect?
The fact Larissa has diabetes should not stop her from eating ice cream. Especially since she is injecting with insulin. IF she did have some, it would just mean she would just need to adjust her insulin intake.
I think I love that reference… KICK THEIR ASSES, SANDRA~! 😀
Although, I know all the references and everything, this strip also makes me think of Sumia and Chrom.
I’m a diabetic, and I eat ice cream all the time. Diabetics shouldn’t eat too much, but as long as they have insulin, they don’t have to abstain.
I know this strip is ancient, but I thought I’d chime in that I know plenty of diabetic people who eat ice cream.
oh the things you can find on ebay
Larisa you Homewrecker!
nah I kid you have to start a home before someone can wreck it. It’s all fair game right now
funnies thing is not that she is hitting cloud and aeris, that much was given judging by the situation, funniest part is the fact she is using tifa to do it, oh puberty, you are and always will be a beautiful nemesis.
@ Fastjack:
Cops spent more than a moment and a half chasing a suspected junkie, and the newspaper felt obliged to report it? And all on the word of a nosy old man? Wow! None of the above would happen Stateside.
BTW, it’s a shame those “Viva La Revolution” t-shirts are no longer available. That’s a pretty cool idea, and I can think of several women I could have gifted them to.
There’s definately a great deal to find out about
this issue. I really like all of the points you made.
After reading the update, I’ll comment that I know a few people who take insulin and depending on type and severity it is more about balance. One of them has to keep options on hand to snack on in case the balance tips too far towards the insulin side. Perhaps Larisa could have a small serving or even just a bit of his without risking the scales… or just be ready with another dose in case indulging goes unfavorably… I mean, some people will take the risk.
Of course, I realize that by this time I am so far behind in the comic that her particular type is probably well established… but this is more about information for anyone interested.
I mean, it’s like how peanuts are actually a legume and not a nut… so an allergy to one or the other does not automatically include the other. Though, since peanuts are often processed on the same machines as nuts the resulting cross contamination renders this almost completely moot.
… I miss eating peanuts.
