[0104] Animal Abuse
└ posted on Monday, 19 October 2009, by Novil
This strip is based on one of the first scripts I have written for Sandra and Woo. You can also have a look at the version Rowel Roque (Rowel’s deviantArt page) drew more than a year ago when I was still searching an artist for Sandra and Woo.
- Jane Roberts: American Humane Association. This is Jane Roberts speaking. How may I help you?
- Woo: Hello. I’d like to report a case of animal abuse.
- Sandra: GET OFF THE PHONE, YOU FREAK! SOMEBODY COULD SEE YOU!
- Jane Roberts: Stupid prank calls…
- Sandra: You’ll get your rabies shots like any other pet!
- Woo: NOOOOOOO
heh…i remember my pet when i took it in for its shots lol
i like how Sandra is strong enough to rip a pay phone off the wall, and that she is 12 when doing this.
LOL
Reminds me of some series/cartoons in which children run away from their immunization because they think it’s simple torture or something…
I’m sixty-one.
I have a *serious* needle phobia to this day from an incident (not unlike this strip at base) over an immunisation when i was Very Small.
somebody affraid of shot XD
The different ways you can read the text in this comic…different tone, emphasis, even accent – lovely.
Reminds me of a sad story my father told me…
When he was about 10, he found a lost, baby raccoon when his family was out on a camping trip. For some reason, the little thing took to my father. Anyway they scheduled it for a vet visit for it’s rabies shot when it was about old enough for it (keep in mind this was back in the late 50’s), unfortunately the dosage killed the poor thing.
I hope Sandra isn’t going to have to pay for that phone…
Well, a different artist certainly brings an entirely different character to the script – that might go without saying, but it’s only really rammed home to you when you see two versions of the same script side by side.
What, he hasn’t had his shots yet? And he’s been hanging out in the woods all this time? For shame!
When I was a kid I’d be clinging to furniture like woo would to avoid shots. 🙂 If Rabies shots are anything like Tetnus shots…
Woo needs to be taught that the AHA doesn’t see rabies shots that way. At least, I assume they’re not as irrational as PETA.
Rowel’s version of today’s comic is a sharp contrast to the finished product.I think the strip would have been more cartoony in nature had Novil gone with him,but would have not lost any of that humility or charm that we all have ground to love.Today’s strip is hysterical,I love the last panel xD.
I love it how her pen just stays twirling in midair. Reminds me of 2001: A Space Oddysey, although I know it has nothing to do with it. her name sounded so familiar to me, I’ve been wasting time going through the archive… only to realize Jane Robers was the name of my 7th grade teacher!
@Moroni: rabies shots are popularly known as “10 shots to the stomach” (although they aren’t exactly ten and they don’t go exactly to your stomach) so it’s way worse than the tetanus shot.
A HA HA HA! Woo on the phone, Sandra ripping off the pay phone from the wall as Woo desperately clings to it, The expressions-this is one of the funniest comics yet! Great job Roque,
Prowee, and Knorzer!!!
“Get off the phone you freak, somebody could see you!” ROFL!
A rabies shot is similar to a tetnus shot as both are a single shot intended to protect.
The ten shot deal Frank is talking about is for humans suspected to have been bitten by a rabid animal. A friend went through that ordeal and now he has a phobia against needles and anything within the forest.
As to the artistic comparisons, I must have missed the side-by-side presentation. When I click on the link, my computer freezes. Not to worry, the humor came through.
Meh, I’ve had the series, it’s not that bad. It is about like a tetnus shot though. The 2cc of immunogobulin the doc insisted in injecting into my finger, now that was annoying.
While rereading the strip, I noticed the pencil flying out of her hand 😀 For some reason I found it abnormally funny 😀
Yeah, shots are cruel. We need to find some way to vaccinate using hugs.
“Get off the phone you freak, somebody could see you!”
Sounds like someone’s been fighting to make this happen all day long.
“How can Heaven and Hell be so close together?”
Got to wonder. Did they go to Bob Hayer for those shots?

oh he needs to stop being a big baby and realize it will be fine!
@Moroni: My own last tetanus refresh left the injection site sore for a week. Never had a rabies shot, but I’m told they’re worse.
Love the strip… Just read from the first one to the last. Keep them coming!!!
Poor Jane Roberts must get a lot of prank calls.
I think they’ll be lucky if woo doesn’t make this type of scene in front of the receptionist or vet.
Might this be a new plot arc beginning? Or just a simple gag.
My brother actually used the trick where he used his hands and feet spread in the doorway when they wanted to take him in.

Wolf in Bears Clothing (its the last thing they’d expect)
I love this comic alot but if that was the art style you went with the one by Rowel Roque then i probably would not be reading this comic that art style is just bad but once again i like this comic in particular because it reminds me of when i brought my cat in as a kitten for his shots
This is most definitely my favourite
Sandra you should’ve let Woo make that call so he (is Woo a she? I don’t know) can get revenge on the first owner!
Happy 1st Anniversary to Sandra and Woo!
We can’t all be tigers, woo. Sorry.
