[0122] Random Encounter

[0122] Random Encounter

The current story arc started with this strip: Two Pieces of Cake.

That’s a wooden sword. I’m saying that because it’s not really possible to convey this in black and white.

We’ve added a “To be continued.” text box since the next strip will be a direct sequel of this one. I’d like to have them published together, but since there’s a lot of action going on in the panels of the next strip as well that would have been too much to draw for Powree for just one update.

  • Cloud: How the hell did you do that?!
  • Larisa: With patience and persistence.
  • Cloud: Very funny. We’ll stay together from now on, okay!?
  • Larisa: ’kay, want to keep an eye on you anyway.
  • Cloud: And I on you…
  • Larisa: Aww.
  • Cloud: … Or else you might get bitten by a rabid bat!
  • Cloud: 17 Dollars?

I propose they defeat some more of the smaller beasts, collect the loot they dump, and then buy better equipment at the adventurers’ shop before they continue the quest.

Nice mood whiplash between Larisa’s mock seductive pose in panel 2 and her real shock in panel 3… after all, she still is a halfway normal preteen, although she wouldn’t admit it.

On the other hand, Cloud IS prepared. Hitting a bat mid-flight still surprised me, although I knew his parents sent him to extensive training and that he could defeat bullies.

    (“bitten” btw)

A bokuto? I though he would use a shinai. Still rocks either way of getting a bat in mid-air. I wonder if the money came from the bat or was randomly lying on the dresser, I hope it was from the bat :) . Thank you for having Cloud ask the question we’ve all be asking as well :D .

Wow. This is great. Larisa may not be the type of person that I’d like to hang out with in real life (though Cloud would be) she sure does make for a great character. This is seriously one of my favorite strips out there.

My hero had a similar situation,
wondering why the hell a spider in his basement is dropping money XD’ )

Also, the faces are awesome as always ^^

I’ve always wondered why wolves, rats, bats, etc. had money, and where they carried it. Do they have little wallets with pictures of their offspring, too?

$17. I guess that’s all the money Larisa had in her pocket today. :-)
Really nice job on the art, especially Larisa in the first two panels.

Though funny, and intriging, reference to Cloud’s upbringing. Its rather obvious that the “loot” came from the loot the kids went there to find. So, find the bat’s nest, find the stash of cash from criminals past. Knowing Cloud, he’d be buying into the whole RPG thing, what with his parent’s constantly expecting him to become some famous adventurer. Knowing Larisa, she’ll make up some convoluted reasoning that involves burning things, and/or mayhem in general. But once they “relate” their “experience(s)” to Sandra, she’ll probably make the same deduction I pointed out. And though it would only be logical that if indeed the bat somehow was carrying the $17, that the stash would be in its nest/lair. Somehow I doubt it would/should(?) be that easy.

Sometimes it’s good to have some doubts. Because you guessed it completely wrong what will happen next.

No, because that would be quite lame. We don’t need to repeat ourselves that early in the history of Sandra and Woo.

Cloud must have an accessory equipped that allows for pre-emptive strikes and/or increased luck.

That’ll come in handy if they meet any Bandits in the warehouse.

I really like your webcomic. It´s so funny (story) and cute (drawings).^^

My two favorite moments about this strip: Second panel with the “flirt moment” and the last panel with the “K.O.”-face of the bat and Clouds “Wt-?”-face when he saw the 17$. The “K.O.”-face was the best thing. XD

Just wanted to say, I thought Powree indicated it was a wooden sword quite nicely via the apparent thickness and “flatness” of the blade (ie rectangular cross-section), rather than an edged, curved blade (pointy oval cross-section). The image implied to me that it was either wooden or plastic, which sounds like exactly what was intended.

I’ll be honest, the payout on bats in this comic is better than most RPGs. I’ll bet there’s going to be a giant rat of some description sooner or later.

A few panels ago, it was suggested they were going to “split up” Scooby Doo style.. I guess we were wrong. I supppose that means there won’t be a “Woo Snacks” reference either..

    LOL at the loot drop.
