[0139] Unfavorable Comparison

Sexy whiskers.

  • Woo: Sandra, can you explain it to me why humans are attracted to each other?
  • Sandra: Huh? Why shouldn’t we?
  • Woo: Well, just look at you: no fur, no tail, not even sexy whiskers! How can you fall in love when all the other members of your species are so ugly?
  • Sandra: HUMANS AREN’T UGLY!
  • Woo: You might invent all this fancy stuff, but in the end you’re only slaves of your hormones. Just like slugs. Am I right?
  • Woo: I must have touched a sore spot…

As a furry I lol’d incredibly hard at this comic.

Ah, this is the Woo that makes the comic worthwhile, eloquent and baffled by the reactions he gets. Love a bit of it, the expressions are top notch and the gag is simple but works well.

    Yeah, people are ugly.

  4. DanialArin says:

Poor Woo. So childishly clueless. Someone needs to teach him that you can’t apply one species’, or even one society’s within a species, standards of beauty to another. Only cuteness has a universal standard.

  5. Novil says:

    Mort says:

    Yeah, people are ugly.

The whiskers part is debatable, but Woo (and Hobbes!) are certainly right about the missing fur and tail. If I were a raccoon I’d definitely prefer raccoons to humans too. ;-)

Yes, I like it how he’s incredibly offensive without even noticing it.

  6.     Rate this comment: Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

Yeah, Woo’s definitely having a Hobbes moment here.

Also, Sandra’s expression in the third panel is AMAZING!!!

Indeed, Blitzkrieg1701, a Hobbes moment. reading your post, I remembered one strip where Calvin was telling him his plans to become a tiger, he would draw stripes, and sharp his toenails so they…
    “mine are retractable”
Nothing like an animal to put things in perspective

    Well, maybe Woo is helping:
“Sandra, you are not a five. I never see a human higher than two”

I do believe that panel three is the best expression this comic has had to date. +30 XP to Powree.

Nice thing about fur is that there is no worrying about pimples, tanning/cancering, peeling, etc. But on the down side, you shed, you’re stuck with a fur coat year-round, washing is more trouble, and you’re more susceptible to parasites.

Personally, I think I prefer skin + clothes. Then your “fur” is optional, and can have pockets, can be machine washed, and can be easily swapped for fur with different designs.

HA! The expression in panel three looks like something one would find in a Sam & Max comic if it was using the style of anime.

I love it when two completely different cultures try to compare themselves with one another. No matter what side you’re on, the other culture will always seem alien compared to yours. It’s a great learning experience…

But I guess Woo better learn fast.

  12. Mystery Penguin says:

Rate this comment: Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

Hmm, I still have yet to see Woo transform into something…

oh wait, that’s only Japanese raccoons that can do that

BUUUURRRRNNNN! While Woo is “childishly clueless” some humans do act the way he described (in the third panel anyway). Still, from the look of Sandra’s face of the third panel (which is AMAZING!!!) he will be dead soon. Definitely a Hobbes moment :) but with Woo’s argument we could flip it around on his species.

    @ Mystery Penguin Tanuki :D .

Well, you can’t really compare different races like that but that’s nothing Woo seems to care about…
Am I enterpreting too much in this or is this a little prank on racism, too?
Since there are also differences between “human races” and you might like them or not.
One might see a body-attribute as a mark of beauty while others think it’s gross.

    @Mystery Penguin
Oh, a cookie, thanks! *munch munch*
All Woo needs is a leaf of the right size, you know? :P
I was already wondering while there is no fanart of this kind…

“[...]slaves of your hormones, like slugs[...]”
    wait a minute…hormones? slugs? XD’
That’s the second funniest comparison I’ve ever heard ^^
And I mean ’second’ in a Monkey Island related figure of speech.

@Mystery Penguin: Based on Sandra’s expression in panel 3, and the contents of panel 4, one might think you’re about to see Woo “transform” into a hat

Kidding, of course. Sandy wouldn’t do that. She might think about it, though. XD Especially right after the “five” incident; Novil wasn’t kidding in the last chat when he said he was about to put poor Sandra through the wringer a bit…

  21. Iron Ed says:

I like Woo in the 2nd panel. :-)
Sandy does so have a tail… Well, sorta. (Is that a stylized pony-tail, or something similar that I don’t know the name of? I like it, whichever!)

Reminds me of another comic I follow. Boy is looking dreamy about a girl and instead of talking about green eyes and long hair as a human might, he gets dreamy about “green eyes, long whiskers”. :-)

Sandra’s just about to EXPLODE into F-Bombs in the 3rd panel. xD
(Yes, an explosive can explode to smaller explosives, do not question the F-Bombs!)

Woo should really learn it’s not a good idea to mock the standards of other secies. <.<
I'd wonder how the reactions would be if he had this sort of conversation with something like an insect or a shellfish?

  24. Littlenorwegians says:

Can she really fault the raccoon for not finding her attractive.

Well, good to know the animal kingdom have parts of affection like we got faces, butts and breasts.

I don’t know if any of you follow the development blog for the game “Overgrowth”. It’s the sequel to “Lugaru”, where you played as a ninja rabbit. Anyway, today’s entry featured some fan art of a ninja raccoon. (Unfortunately, there are no current plans to feature raccoons in the game. Just dogs, wolves, cats, rats, and rabbits.)

*grumble* My typist gets the worst of both worlds:

In RL, he still has problems with pimples and peeling… but he’s furry enough (in RL) that he sheds everywhere, and has a fur coat year-round.

Pockets. Those are good things about being human. Pockets.

Sorry for the double post but it the words of Calvin and Hobbes:
Calvin: What do you find attractive in women, Hobbes?
Hobbes: Well, I’ve always be partial to redheads… with green eyes. I like green eyes. And WHISKERS! LONG whiskers!
    Calvin: Let’s change the subject.
You got it right on with the whiskers Novil.

  41.     Rate this comment: Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

@ Mystery Penguin – Tanuki are raccoon dogs, which look a lot like raccoons but are a completely different species – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raccoon_dog – also @ dg “Kitsune” does mean fox… although that doesn’t relate to what Mystery Penguin was saying (I think) :)

  42.     Rate this comment: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

@dg/@penguin Latest info is that tanuki are canids, not procyonids. First the panda, next the raccoon-dog, the raccoon clan is getting horribly denuded.

@Pizza: many arctic species have to worry about UV exposure even through their fur, because of the way their fur channels light to their skin.

Tanuki is translated the US as raccoon, but that’s owing to their uncanny resemblance to raccoons, and the fact we don’t have tanuki here. Raccoons are thus the closest thing we have to them.

Well, now…where to start, where to start…

I could tanjit for an hour’s worth of typing about religious reasons for how/why Humans are attracted to one another at any given time of the year. So, not going there…

Woo…really needs to go out and find a female raccoon to try and ‘woo’ over…and learn some of life’s crueler lessons. Being so innocent and virgin, he’s hardly prepared to harp on such subjects, at this time.

Sandry…needs to take up boxing. (Outlet for that built up anger.)

“No fur. No tail. Not even sexy whiskers!” Oh, Deer Lord…can’t believe that I’m even going to write this…

Ahem…Woo has a point there. Personal experience in non-fur environments has repeatedly proved positive to drive some female Humans insane. I have seen a woman go bonkers behind the wheel for gazing upon me. I have been used as a stripper’s pole. I have had four women grasping my tail (and, for a deer, that’s getting rather personal) at once. I have pulled women forth without saying a single word. Women have on multiple occasions pulled off the road to hand me things. And, I can’t even fathom the evening at the beach with the two bus loads…Woo so has a point. Respect it. Fear it. Know it. Honor it. Use with care.

Slugs…Isn’t there still a machine or two roaming the English countryside that hunts and eats slugs? Kind of the size of a small cat…if memory serves, correctly.

Sure I had more to add. It’s 4 in the morning and I’m so tired. Not sure what’s keeping me going, at this point.

Oh, yea…Humans did (and sometimes still do) have tails. It’s the most horrible looking thing and thank G…(oh, wait. I did say that I wasn’t going into religious preachings…) -fully, we don’t have them. Check YouTube. There may still reside a couple videos on the freakish looking things. Just be warned that your stomache may be doing somersaults for actually seeing a Human tail.
