CanadianBacon, the concept of “alpha” exists by default within any community, regardless of how it is set up. “Alpha” is simply a term for the leader, particularly where there may be contention for that title.
So whether an “alpha male” is good or bad depends on the male.
ON an unrelated note: I LOVE Lily in the second panel.. I think she might be falling for Woo.. (Isn’t that what playing with chestfur usually means?_

at least woo is being truthful…some folks would make up some incredible story to impress a potential love interest. at least woo realizes that, after what he did to get lily’s attention, he doesn’t have to rely on a overbaked (cf: half baked) story to grab her interest.

Love Lily! Although, my raccoon fursona would probably hate her… (my fursona fails to match my personality *facepaw*) I love the look on Lily’s face in the 3rd panel and how Woo says that with out really thinking! XD It’s like they say, a good friend will give you their umbrella if your stuck in the rain, but a best friend will stand there and laugh!

CanadianBacon, “alpha male” has very little to do with “human idiocy”.
They are both racoons and so they are using racoon or if you so want animal terms.
Calling him an “alpha” equals something quite “normal” in human society that I honestly can’t translate to english with my limited knowledge of the language, but I’ll try to paraphrase it.
It’s like saying: good fighter, brave man, courageously one (I hope the word is correct…), … and so on.
Something a girl would actually call you after such an experience and I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be “alpha”.

As was stated earlier, Alpha simply means leader. If we were talking birds, the Alpha male would have the best plumage. Well, if he wooed and won her (pardon the pun) in the course of five or six strips, it wouldn’t be much of a plotline… my guess is that she’s genuinely gobsmacked that such a seemingly fantastic guy would spend part of his time as a human’s pet, and he’ll have lost much if not all of his head start with her. There are probably a lot of raccoons in the woods who can catch fish for their mates and chase off interlopers who aren’t also on the take with a human. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

If she thinks it’s a joke, she could be in for a rude shock.
But then again, with coons as natural scavengers, she could put two and two together and realize that Woo has the best deal yet. Roof over his head, no threat of predators, free food… only question is if there’s room enough for two coons in the same house.

Awww… Woo’s blushing
. I don’t think that Lily would dump him just because of that. She saw him catch that humongous fish so she knows he a good provider (and protector) but Woo,did you really have to say “little girl”? It should have been obvious that mating season is a driving factor from Woo’s thoughts just before he first sees Lily. Hormones are powerful little things, aren’t they?
I do like that Woo is treating Lily like a fellow person/coon, though. I see Lily starting to see Woo in a similar light. I think this bit of fun at Woo’s expense is having a good effect, believe it or not.

LOL Poor Woo his new lady friend is injoying a good laugh at his expence.
But once Lily finds out how good treats & belly rubs from a kindly human feels like she’ll move in with him and be set for life. Mind you Woo has to ask Sandra if its ok first. ^_^
This reminds me of a female Raccoon who moved into the attic of my garage about 10 years ago and had a litter of 3 kits. Once I found out I started to put out food for them and over a few months of the free hand outs they learned from mom to climb up into the window box and tap on the glass when ever their food was late.
I got quite a chuckle out of them and I still do from their descendants that still hang about the place all these years later.
But being wild critters I never tried once to give them friendly belly rubs as I like to keep all 10 of my fingers.
Keep up the great work with this web-comic it brings back many fond memories of wild critters I have met along the road of life.

Hmmm….. am I insightful or just naive?
Lily feels comfortable enough with Woo to fall down laughing at him right in front of him.
This says to me that Lily still sees Woo as her Chosen Mate for the season.

I’m in two minds about the relationship lasting longer than a season. On the one hand, Lily seems nice and a “running gag” of her gently teasing Woo about being a “pet ‘coon” might be amusing. Then on the other hand, having another protaganist around introduces another level of complexity to the story which may be detrimental rather than beneficial.
(Suggestion Box) If I were the writer, I’d probably have Lily prefer to stay in the wild and raise her kits there. Lily could be a recurring character like Shadow and Sid rather than a constant character. (/Suggestion Box)
I guess I’m saying Lily and Sandra could meet but I want the story to stay “Sandra and Woo” and not become “Sandra and Woo and Lily”.

Ok, I just gotta comment here on the last comic, which I just viewed a minute ago. I laughed my guts out. Saskatchewan is where I was born – Saskatoon Saskatchewan to be precise.
Turns out that there are a few people that like the word, it’s made a few cameo appearances in movies and shows, most notably (in my opinion), in a Loony Toons Cartoon (Ali Baba Bunny, I believe).

after spending an hour going though your archives I have to admit its as good as BPD and I just love your Coon Critters.
