The current story arc started with this strip: Unfavorable Comparison.
Considering their super-sensitive paws I thought rubbing their paws against each other would be a neat raccoon equivalent for kissing.
Whew, it’s been quite some time since we’ve last seen the squirrel Sid in the strip Caught off Guard.
Looks like Larisa is currently engaged in her second and third favorite amusements at the same time, smooching with pretty eyed boys and drawing. Her most favorite one would probably be lighting a giant bonfire and than dancing around it.

I liked the general idea for you April Fool’s Day thing, up until I realized that people could post whatever they wanted. Sucks that one jerk just had to go trolling the whole place.
Then…you know. Imageboard, internet – it was inevitable. Anyway, poor ol’ Sid, Fifth Business is a rotten old thing (oo, get me all literary referencing this morning).
What I like here: simple simple simple simple yet very very very very effective.

@cyber95: Actually, they could post whatever they wanted as long as it had an image or animation. I tried posting a plain text message and got blocked an error that the video ID field was left blank.
@Novil: If done right, the thing you were playing with for the gag could be reasonably effective. The setup you did was I guess kind of hasty, since it was only a gag, and thus not very refined, but… Anyway, if malicious posting becomes an out-of-control problem, you could set up a login-required system for posting. Shadowgirls uses Simple:Press Forums and both Errant Story and Piled Higher & Deeper use phpBB with a reasonable level of success, though admittedly neither is as well integrated as WordPress’s own comment system.
Nice job on the strip, I hope you’ll make poor lil Sid feel a bit better soon.
I think I was late for the whole thing to realize but what wen’t wrong again and what would have been the gag, late at night when I came up I just saw that the site had changed to a wierd layout or somethin and in the mornin the site was off. So what did I miss?

side note: if you’re a gamer, check out World of Warcraft’s april fool’s news release. I don’t play WoW at all, but their April Fool’s news items are always hilarious and this year is no exception!
back on topic: poor Sid. Yay for everyone else though! mmm, how come Larisa is getting smooches, but we don’t get to see if Cloud and Sandy are getting smooches from each other?!?! :p

Looks like me and Sid will be spending the holiday weekend the same way.
Of course, more important than this is who the mystery man with Larissa is. And more important than THAT, is she using him in an elaborate plot (which will ultimately fall apart) to make Cloud jealous?
An explanation of what happened would be helpful, otherwise every comment left today will be along the lines of “What was it?”

I think I did get a look at the April 1 joke. Novil and company pretended that the site had been hacked and so they needed to switch providers for a while so the whole site was in a different format.
At least, I think that was the joke and not the actual problem.
Our normal WordPress based website was replaced by an imageboard. Apart from boards for the comics it also included character based boards (Woo – Raccoons, Larisa – Fire, Cloud – Final Fantasy) with threads about raccoon photos, Final Fantasy VII, etc.
There were also three new pieces of guest art and a “Sandy the Third” version of the well-known “Loituma” animation. I will post all of that on our blog over the course of the next week so that the work wasn’t useless.
Well, I for one fell for the April Fools joke. I was heart broke that you would no longer be using state of the art software for the layouts and going to an antiquated system. My husband even asked what was wrong sensing my mood change and I said my one of my favorite comic sites now looks like crap. I went to sleep last night really bummed out and almost didn’t come back here today. Good Job. You got me. Oh, and I watched that whole stupid animation with the song waiting for Woo to pop up, so yes, you got me good!

I would’ve thought Larisa’s most favorite hobby wouldn’t necessarily be dancing around a giant bonfire, but lighting a giant bonfire… ;^)

As Novil explained, for one day the S&W site was “upgraded” to a 4chan-style imageboard layout. There was a little animated movie of Sandra singing a song and some other art here and there… but it took only a few hours for a troll or three to realize that the board was unprotected and to post obscene text and disgusting images (I will refrain from descriptions) onto the main image thread. A cute idea with some nice hidden easter eggs, spoiled by the usual bottom feeders the Net has to deal with. Alas.
So? Lots of people beg to differ, I suppose.
… Somehow I doubt that you’re 13 years old or younger which makes this crush on a fictional 11 year old girl somewhat unsettling.
My first time posting for this comic cause I have been watching it for the past couple of years and loved every one of them. Don’t know what the joke was, but it sure looked like it freaked some people out.
But I wanted to say, this has to be my favorite Sandra and Woo comic, except Sid being sad cause of all the love in the air. I’m sure he’ll meet the squirrel of his dreams soon. But I just love how you included paw touching as kissing, the fox’s having more cubs on the way and Larisa….well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!!

I’m so sorry that your April Fools’ joke was spoiled. You must have put so much time into the mock site. Plus, seeing as how you put the call out for guest artists in early March, you must have been planning this for at least three weeks. You have my sympathies.

Now that you mention it, he does kinda look like Squall, who changes his name to Leon in Kingdom Hearts. So maybe she’s smooching a guy named Leon? I dunno.
Oh, so I did see it. Part of the problem was that YouTube was also updating when it came out, so the Sandy Leek spin didn’t play at all until about 20 tries.

Squall’s last name is Leonheart, Leon is the shortened version.
The popular notion is that you need a significant other to be happy, that a single person is incomplete. That isn’t the case.
That said, I can sympathize with Sid. It is a hard thing to see people all around with that someone special to love them in an intimate way, and feel like you’re missing out because you don’t have anyone.
Of course, I’m now married, and I don’t know if I could go back to single life. There is too much I would miss.

Aww, I love this strip, love the technique of rubbing paws for romatic gestures. And shadow and Echo have a new kit/litter on the way, that’s so sweet.
