The current story arc started with this strip: Slut.
Oh Larisa, I think you forgot that you also kissed Cloud… on the nose that is.
I have noticed that Larisa’s name is misspelled frequently in the comments: It’s written with just one “s”.
Of course, for society at large it is good that some guys just can’t keep their mouth shut during interrogations or in court… I mean people who dig their own grave this way usually *have* violated the law in some way.
“Slut” according to Urban Dictionary:
a woman with the morals of a man
LOL. The second definition on that page is also quite funny. It starts with “Someone who provides a very needed service for the community…” so don’t expect an explanation of the term that soccer moms would approve of. *g*
- Sandra: Hey Liz, why so serious?
- Larisa: That dumb cow Michelle called me a slut!
- Sandra: Aw, come on, don’t listen t–
- Larisa: She’s only saying that ’cause I like to dress sexy to appeal to boys. What’s slutty about that!? Please!?
- Larisa: And anyway, I’m sure that I haven’t kissed more than a dozen boys in my life…
- Larisa: … and not one of them meant much to me!
- Sandra: Some people just shouldn’t try to defend themselves…

No worries, Snowsoul. It is very plausible that this is a phase for Larisa, and might be common for a number of girls her age, so you won’t see me riding her too hard on this. So I can appreciate your view on this.
Certainly it shares a similarity in type to the adult behaviors many of us are talking about, but nowhere close to it in extent. Kids will be kids, and kissing is a very far cry from its adult equivalent. I would venture to say a majority of kids will grow out of a lot of things they do as kids (like running through mud puddles).
Hornet, you might wish to word that in a less coarse manner.
No idea why but I’m startin to like Larisa more and more as this arc goes on. Just let’s hope ther’ll be an interesting twist of character development at the end of it. X3
Excuse my curiosity, but did you tell her that just to joke ?
If we’re talking morally, however, a guys pants are also a metaphorical ‘lock’ (for example, the phrase ‘getting into someone’s pants’) and a woman’s beauty/sex appeal could be considered a ‘key’ to her success with the opposite sex. Therefore, seeing as that guy’s pants are opened by practically anything that moves, they must be the equivalent of those cheap, easy padlocks one gets on 99p diaries.
The moral of this story is that many men aren’t just whores, they’re shameless whores and, girls, if you meet a man-whore, don’t sleep with the skank, you might catch something.
(Also, Master Keys are generally used by criminals and other lowlifes.)
However, I wouldn’t consider Larisa a slut; although she dresses so that she looks attractive, she isn’t tarty and, for heaven’s sake, a kiss is just a kiss- she’s not sleeping around lol!
I don’t think Larissa is a slut. I think she’s a flirt and I’m a bit jealous of her No FEAR attitude. I imagine, a lot of the other girls AND parents are as well. Thus, she must be branded an outcast and shunned lest they have to acknowledge their own sense of weakness in certain areas.
On the subject of global morals, in many cases that would be great, but in others it could totally backfire. There was a time much of the world thought of women as property for example. It’s changing now, but at the time…well…you get the idea. My current hope is that the world will just chill when it comes to homosexuality. If you’re not homosexual, what they do won’t affect you so quit freaking out about the idea your neighbors might be gay or bisexual. (For the record, I’m pretty sure I’m straight since the idea of a girl flirting with me usually makes me want to run away screaming and jump out of the closest window.)
I think that dictionary is being a little bit sexist in my opinion.

@ eber:
Except a woman is a person, not an object.
And if all those “sluts” stop having sex with all those guys, what then?
All those guys get to have sex with each other.
Which leads me to my next question:
Which one of the pairs of guys is the slut? The one on the bottom? But what if they take turns, are they both the sluts?
As far as I’m concerned they are.
I’m disappointed in you for not criticising slut-shaming more explicitly, and not at all in the strip itself. Larisa has no reason to be ashamed of any of that, but Michelle should certainly be ashamed of victimising her over it, Sandra for agreeing with Michelle and you for allowing it to go unquestioned in your work.
@ Iron Ed:
Are you suggesting that when she’s older, it *won’t* be fine to have lots of male friends?
@ James:
The fact is, when a man acts like that it’s seen as a positive thing by a lot of people, and certainly there’s no equivalent epithet for a man who sleeps around that’s conventionally accepted *as* an epithet.
@ Gerardo Tejada:
It’s a double standard. This is the reason I’m not one to judge real people.
Fictional people on the other fork of the tail…
Facebook in a nutshell.
My favorite Urban Dictionary definition is for sex it reads, “Sex is like math. You add the bed, subtract the clothes, divide the legs, and pray you don’t multiply.”
I guess the Urban Dictionary is partially right. However, when I was growing up, a slut was a woman who’d sleep with any guy, no matter his looks or financial status. Therefore, maybe we should just say that Larisa is a “slut in training”? Nah. She just knows what she likes and she likes boys.
