The current story arc started with this strip: Woo Has a Glue.
- Sandra: What on earth made you think it’d be a good idea to glue your fur back onto your tail?!
- Woo: I… … it’s…
- Sandra: We’ll see the vet tomorrow about your fur falling out, ‘kay?
- Woo: … my pretty ringed tail…
- Sandra: Aw, come on. You’re still a pretty raccoon with a little less fur on your tail.
- Woo: … you… you don’t understand.
- Sandra: Yes, I’m starting to.
I have to say the response “yes , I’m starting to ” is one the best expressions for dealing with anothers problems I have seen in any medium.
Well done!
hmm,,, I remember when my hair turned green because there was too much chlorine in a swimming pool. but I doubt this is really the same. Besides for guy’s that sort of thing makes them more awesome, especially when you can imagine the worse ending imaginable.
What’s going on with our buddy Woo?
“Yes, Im starting to”
Dont know what shes talking about, Is she some kinf of phsychic? or she have background knowledge about raccoons
Abject Woo is depressing.
Great job today, Powree. The feelings really come through well!
Woo: “You… You don’t understand”
Sandra: “Yes, I’m starting to”
What Sandra really meant was:
“Yes, I’m starting to not understand”
Because she doesn’t have a clue what was really going on with Woo.
That, or she’s starting to understand that its more than just the fur that’s bugging him?
Poor Woo.
All of my hair fell out too at some point, from depression. Poor guy.
oh my gosh.
depression? wait, if it really is depression…did lily break up with him??!? just a thought, but i think that may be the case.
Awwww…. how sad :(. I am happy that Sandra doesn’t pry as to why his fur is falling out, but tries to cheer him up. The expressions of Woo make me really feel for the guy especially the third and fourth panels. The brilliant use of tone sets the mood perfectly.
I think Sandra should be saying “I think I’m starting to”.
I also think I’m starting to understand. I’m guessing that to a raccoon (at least to Woo), his tail and its appearance is a bit like clothing, similar to Reepicheep’s tail in C.S. Lewis’ “Narnia” series. A scruffy-looking tail, to Woo, is a bit like wearing ragged clothing which doesn’t adequately cover your body.
I hope the vet can fix the problem, or at least say that it’s only temporary.
Speaking of the vet, Sandra will need to be careful what she says, to not reveal stuff she couldn’t possibly know unless Woo can talk to her. 🙂
Anybody else have the urge to just pick the poor raccoon up and pet it?
@shady: My first urge was to hug him, which probably included picking him up, and a bit of petting, but it looks as though Woo needs a hug.
That last panel is just touchig, I just love the expression of Sandra there. This almost made me go sad.
Hope this’ll have a good end as well, but what could be the prob?
Yeah I had, but he may need a hug a bit more.
-Big Cuddles- for Woo in the last panel :'( x
Truly one of the most touching moments in Sandra and Woo. But what is it that made this raccoon so heartbroken? well, judging from the little court session between Thrudd and Someone on the last strip, i deduce that he neither inflicted this upon himself nor was he attacked by something else (though it is very well possible), but he has contracted some sort of disease or parasite or something of the like. but that’s just a guess…
Awww… I love the 3rd panel, that is such a sad expresion for Woo. Beautifully captured.
Aw, he’s got mange. (Brings up a large needle.) Hold still!
But seriously, I wonder what it is? And yeah, hair loss sucks. Fortunately I’m good. (Runs my fingers through my full, long, beautiful mane)
I am at least glad that this is “normal” hair loss and not something brought on by a run in with a wolverine, shark or lawyer.
And Nick, I’m with you on that *runs fingers through the #^%#@%# tangles in his midback length hair* though I do have to start a little higher on the forehead than in the past.
Do you think he will need a tail wig until the medical problem is resolves?
( Cue flashback to the toy Davey Crockett Cap )
@JHSpence
Judging by Woos reaction ( in this strip ) it really could be something horrible.
Or at least something “terrifying” or embarrassing for Woo…
At first I was thinking about a midlife crisis (loss of hair, arkwark behaviour…)
but Woo is much too young for something like that…
Might be something that is actually harming him personally and the thing with the tail is just compensation.
(So it could actually be an attacker)
Either that or he got into chemicals some idiot throw into the forrest and is now suffering the sideeffects… so the Vet would be the right thing.
Ok… I should stop reading/watching detective storys.
At the other hand I’m awake for over 35 hours now o,ô’
Might also change my point of view XD”’
Just freakin’ hug him already Sandra…
Perhaps Sandra means that she’s starting to understand how upset Woo is/how much losing his fur means to him. ‘You don’t understand’ is the usual, self-pitying cry of someone who is so unhappy that they don’t think that anyone could appreciate the depth of their misery. This would make Sandra’s answer ‘I’m starting to” both conciliatory and comforting as, while she doesn’t gainsay Woo, she is saying that she can empathise.
Alternately, “Pencil” could be right and it’s more than the tail that’s the problem here. There’s a bit of room for ambiguity in the conversation so there could be a plot twist. Possibly.
And, yes, I want to hug Woo too, especially in the third panel, poor little guy.
Of course she understands. This is a vanity issue. Remember that just recently she was thinking that she was not pretty and being all down on herself. This is the same type of thing that woo is on about when he said “you don”t understand”. Of course she does, she just went through it and may still be going through it.
The wisest man understands when he understands nothing
that happens to everyboddy, almost every race (i think), some sooner other later. i hope humankind find the solution to that matter before i loose my hair, bald ppl are so ugly =(
I think in my opinion it’s a reference to her and Cloud when she says “yes, i’m starting to”.
Sandra is probably realizing this is how Cloud might’ve felt when she started thinking that “i’m not pretty enough?” towards Cloud. Woo’s reaction is almost similar in that Sandra tried to assure him he’ll be the same old raccoon despite the fur loss, but Sandra is instead guessing that this was the same shoe that Cloud was in when Sandra said something similar to him.
So…
Much…
DAAAWWWWWW!!!
My eyes are bleeding…
To empathize requires that you have experienced the same thing personally. I don’t know that Sandra can..
My theory is that she is beginning to see from Woo’s response that there is something deeper than fur loss on his tail. Perhaps the “fur-as-clothing” concept is a large part of it. Perhaps there is something else…
My guess is that Woo’s worried he’s going to lose Lily. What with the whole, raccoons-store-fat-in-their-tails bit, a scruffy tail can’t be a sign of good health. And what raccoon in her right mind wants an unhealthy rascal fathering her offspring?
aw 🙁
and though you can’t empathise you can at least sympathise and try to comfort…
A requiem for Woo.
Awh… Poor Woo.
We balding guy’s know how you feel little guy.
i think this might be from that rat bite he acquired while exploring the factory.
i think Sandra is relating to woo, and i immediately think of the episode with cloud and liz.
@ David:
That can’t be the cause of it. I’m sure Sandra keeps him well fed.
Somebody please call an ambulance… I think my heart just melted.
Poor guy. That’s like a racoon’s bread and butter.
Sandra, how would you feel if your pony tail just started falling off?
