Girlfriend is a song of questionable quality by Avril Lavigne.
- Sandra: … Then Mrs. Finch said that–
- Avril Lavigne: Hey! Hey! You! You!
I don’t like your girlfriend
No way! No way!
I think you need a new one
Hey! Hey! You! You!
I could be your girlfriend
- Avril Lavigne: She’s like so whatever
And you could do so much better- Sandra: Subtle.
- Larisa: Too subtle?

Questionable quality? Why not just use dire?
… I foresee problems in the future.
“she’s like so whatever”? Is there a music lyric that goes “she’s like so whatever”?
Oh, man, Larisa, you need a new repertoire
But a fun strip, nevertheless
What I wouldn’t have given to have Larissa playing “Barracuda”… XD
Or, perhaps, with this being Larissa, “What Have You Done”…
Direct approach.. I can respect that
Questionable quality indeed!
I smell trouble.

You make me so hot
Make me wanna drop
It’s so ridiculous
I can barely stop
I can hardly breathe
You make me wanna scream
You’re so fabulous
You’re so good to me baby, baby
You’re so good to me baby, baby
I can make you feel all better
Just take it in
And I can show you all the places
You’ve never been (Ohhhhh!)
And I can make you say everything
That you never said
And I will let you do anything
Again and again
Now you’re in and can’t get out
Another cuestionable song from Lavigne, I think is called hot. Fits with the situatiom
…so she didn’t give up on Cloud after all.
@ Lihes:
Make it double.
Ah.. Ahahahahahahaha…
* Stare for a few seconds… *
ahaHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Cheap Trick also had a hit tune “Girlfriend.” IIRC
Such an innocent look in the last panel. 😉
that comic is hazardous!
i laughed so hard i almost choked to death
WHEN is this set again? cuz nobody uses BoomBoxes anymore.
@ Taki:
I think that could be a factor in their curious faces in the second panel.
Is that a TAPE?

To protect the world from devastation!
She’s about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
With a best friend like that, who needs enemies…
its wieird because i’ve bean hearing this song ALL DAY and now im reading it … i wonder if the universe is trying to tell me something 😛
I am getting the feeling that when she was taking meds in the treasure hunters arc that they were mood meds like Prozac. If I am right then I think Larissa needs to up her meds a bit.
True Friendship = Brutal Honesty
Larissa is truly a keeper
on the other note, Cloud, do you know the term “threeso…”
*got dragged out by morality police*
oh come on, I just jo…
*pepper spray*
AAARRGGHH!!
Heh. I don’t know if the song’s good, but it’s hella catchy! Plus I really fell in love with a parody of this song, tailored to a Warcraft Machinima “I don’t want to be your healer.”
Subtle, like a falling anvil.

@ Lunaroki:
Thanks, now I have a picture of Sandra and Cloud as Jessie and James stuck in my head.
Guess
Woowho Meowth is >,<'@ AckAckAck:
This might even work for Laris- *pepper spray* AAARRGHH!

I give Larisa points for effort. All she needs is to try that at the ground below Clouds window.
I’m slightly confused, I thought in a previous strip Larisa actually knocked sense into Cloud that Sandra and him like each other so she pushed them together and now she’s trying to steal him back, has she realized she made a mistake, or just doing it for laughs….but then we are talking about Larisa we may never know lol x
Also classic 80’s boombox ftw! 😀 but unless it’s got some kind of MP3 attachement or build in CD did she actually record Avril onto a cassette tape JUST to do this?! If so I actually think that’s kinda cool! (Yes I’m a geek get over it :P) x
Hello, it’s the first time that I comment on this site (although I’ve been reading this great comic for a long, long while now). I rarely comment on comics, but here I felt I had to. Sorry in advance if I’m breaking comment posting rule #4, but I have to get it out of my chest: what’s with larissa’s uncool attitude against sandra in this comic? I thougt that that story was over, and yet here she goes, acting like a total *****. It’s not cool at all. I know a person that lived a situation similar to that one and I’ve seen how it hurted him. Can’t say that I like the subject, so I hope that there will be no more of this stuff coming.

Calm down mate, Larissa knows that she can’t take Cloud away from Sandra, but she love to tease them (and also other girls in school)
in summary: IN SOVIET RUSSIA, THE MESSAGE SUBTLE YOUUUUUU!!!
wait…. that’s not right wording……. is….. just….. that…… um……
well, that’s the problem with “English as the second language” speaker, sorry if I confuse y’all
Ha-ha, I’ve always thought this song was written for the sole purpose of using it in sitcoms and comics)))
I don’t know what Sandra’s getting so worked up about, Larissa’s clearly just making sure Cloud realizes that Avril Lavigne exists. Right?
Well have to give Sandra points for not breaking the boombox over Larisa’s head. Then
“jump on her head till she stops moving”. Of course the problem with that is you get goo on your shoes.
Somehow i guess it really was too subtle and Cloud didn´t got the meaning behind it at all. XD

And high school dramas. Don’t forget high school dramas.
The proper counter is Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me. that is, had Cloud somehow ended up sticking with Larisa from the earlier drama, that would have been an appropriate response from Sandra.
Of course, at this point, Cloud is never going to let go of Sandra for Larisa. Sandra’s a keeper, while Larisa’s a player, and he doesn’t seem the type to knowingly choose someone so… flighty and potentially disloyal. (After all, a revolutionary leader must know they can implicitly trust those closest to them with far more than just their life, or they are doomed to eternal paranoia. Larisa might make a good Operative someday, if she wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb in Burma, but Sandra is the one who’s viable as an actual companion.)
An interesting choice of music, to say the least. Because the song, itself, if you listen to the lyrics, is ironic in nature; it basically describes the kind of girl you want to AVOID at all costs, evidently by how insanely possessive they are.
Sadly, the music video doesn’t capture the same feeling of the lyrics. But someone did an excellent AMV called The Harrassment of Kyon. It’s hilarious and it captures the song’s meaning as well. Check it out.
No, I didn’t make it.

I hate that song. It’s just so arrogant. Just like that “Don’tcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me?” song from that rubbish girl group. It just makes me want to slap her and scream “Your sense of entitlement is FALSE!”
On the other hand, it’s nice to see so many Larisa and/or Cloud focused strips.
Maybe, just in a troubled mind, menage a trois…?

Could you possibly make another one with the Zebrahead cover?
About this song… hmmm… I kinda like how it sounds and all, but yeah I don’ like that “I don’t care that you have a girlfriend” attitude of it… although great job fitting it here, it’s just perfect. X3
What I don’ get is: WHY is Larisa always trying to get closer to cloud when SHE was the one who told him to stop goin after other girls if he likes Sandra in the first place…:p
@ AckAckAck:
Thank you for your answer, AckAckAck. To be honest, I think that I overreacted a bit and didn’t see this strip that way. And don’t worry about the language, I understood what you meant anyway. Thanks again for the answer.

They are selling boomboxes again. Complete with cd, usb and ipod ports.
She’s got a cassette boombox! That is so adorable!
I bet she found it in her parent’s attic! 😀
lol poor Sandra. Can’t keep girls from trying to steal her man. I’m on her side though. lol
