The current story arc started with this strip: A New Adventure.
- Harvey: This weather is a lie. The weather report said it was going to be warm and sunny today.
- Harvey: Let’s go back to the campsite and watch Pixar movies on my laptop!
- Sandra, Cloud and Larisa: Deal!

Good ending to a bad start
Chaperone 1 Weather 0
This reminds me of classic Calvin and Hobbes when Calvin’s dad and the whole family went into a camping trip only to find that their camping spot is raining nonstop, and like Calvin’s dad always say:
“It builds character!”
If C&H is made nowadays, Calvin can always say:
“No dad, Pixar movies builds character!”
And then Calvin will be send back to his room with an amazon kindle with Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer digital copies in it.
Oh, well, at least the downpour will inhibit (I started to write “dampen”) Larisa’s pyromania.
I only hope Woo didn’t toss out the laptop to make room for himself in the bag.
well at least Larisa cant start a fire now……
and what is a camping trip without Pixar ?
The weather must be part cake.
hmmm… despite the circumstances, i have no doubt larisa will find a way to set SOMETHING on fire. 🙂 i also have no doubt that CLANDRA WILL PREVAIL!!!
@ AckAckAck:
just what i wuz thinking! u speak onlee teh truf.

@ Ominous:
The cake is a lie
There must be a Boy Scout troop camping near by. Local joke: If you have plans for the weekend, check to see if the scouts are camping. If they are, make indoor plans because it will rain if they are camping.
Pixar Movies: The best anytime anywhere, especially on rainy days.
Woah, It’s raining cats, dogs and elephants… Never trust the weather report.
As everyone familiar with murphys law should know: The only thing you can do to prevent rain is carrying an umbrella around.
Works just fine for me:
I take my umbrella with me -> it does not rain. I forget it at home -> It’s raining buckets…
Oh.. how do they get back after the paddle broke? Does he have one in reserve?
(I know he has two, but getting back with just one costs about 3 times the time…)
Good thing is: Larisa can’t set the forrest on fire as long as it’s raining, right Blitzkrieg? 😛
She might still be able to set Harvey on fire though, but I guess thats an other story…
Poo. Someone beat me to the “builds character” joke.
@Someone: This is Larisa we’re talking about. She’ll find a way.
At least Mr. Chaperone is smart to know when to call it quits, unlike Calvin’s dad.
@ AckAckAck:
I love that other people remember calvin and hobbes
Hmmm… I wonder if the others had too turn back as well. I have trouble believing that this camping trip that they planned for so long for only consisted of the four of them. Wasn’t this sort of a school camping trip?
oh nice. cake. so um that’s frosting falling.
just a plot hypothesis.
the storm got worst.
out of knowhere spooky hotel
the usual blackout.
adventure mode activated.mystery case file like.
the dark cliques jokes
Larissa is thanked for her fire powers.
spiders anyone.
creepy attendant.
any thought on this anyone? ^_^
@ Someone: She’s more worried about how to get close him in such a way that it won’t break the “I will not touch my chaperone inappropriately” rule
Knowing Larisa, she’ll probably find a way to harness lightning…we’d all be screwed then.
Is Harvey going to appear outside of this story arc?
“Want to go back to camp and watch Pixar movies?” xD that’s totally me! Pixar is the best.
Every time I see the Pixar intro I remember this parody http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG_DGMWI88A It’s a little dark but funny as hell.
@ Moxie Man:
Are you kidding me? A little rain never hurt any Boy Scout camping trip!
Now 40-MPH winds on the beach did… But that was a special occasion! XD
Just out of curiosity… Who wants to bet that Howard will lose the other oar? 😀
How did that paddle break? Something sinister lurks beneath that lake. Also Sandra’s face in the last panel is adorable!
The joys of weather reports debunked by the actual weather.
What’s Light Yagami doing there?
So…um…why is Harvey the only one wearing (what I assume to be) proper rain gear? Shouldn’t he, as the adult, have made sure that the kids brought some too?
It starts reminding me of all the camping trips Calvin’s dad had planned.
Then turning them upside down with an actual good idea.
Did anyone else notice thebag in the boat? gotta wonder if woo’s in it getting soaked (see previous comic)
Back at Hobbes: I’m a scout volunteer. In my 30 years in scouting, we’ve only canceled/delayed once due to rain. Of course that one time happened to be due to the remnants of Hurricane Hugo passing over New England. It got to the point that parents were complaining (not the kids, the parents) that we were always choosing the “wrong” weekend. So, I dug-out weather records for the past ten years (at that point) and showed there wasn’t a “right” weekend in the spring or fall in Maine: pick any weekend in the spring and 78% of the time it rains (or snows) at some point over that weekend and in the fall, 83%! Oh, and when it does rain, it’s at least 1/2 inch (just over a cm for those outside the USA). So, your tents will be well soaked.
Lol @ MoonHitler: Now you mention it, Larisa does look like Light in this strip. XD
At least they are ‘still alive’ if you know what I mean 😉
Hmm, the chaperone is wearing a hooded raincoat, so it’s hard to tell if he really is “sooo cute.” However, he does seem to have a winning personality.
Go Pixar. I put early vote on The Incredibles.
I was hoping for a valentines special with cloud and woo and their ladies 🙁
Curse that weather girl! “It’s going to be bright and sunny all day!” HAH!
Do you know upset she makes me- I’LL SAY IT AGAIN, do you know upset she makes me?!
*reference probably no one will get
Don’t complain! Camp in the rain!
Okay, but how’ll they get back with just one paddle? Anyone tried that before? XD

Woo is in Sandra’s bag not Harvey’s as far as I know. 😀
@ Landbark:
Chupacapras only eat goats. Well…actually the drink goat blood. Eh. Besides the point. Chupacabras are still scary regardless.
@ Blitzkrieg1701:
She probably brought one of those fancy swedish fire steel things. I hear they can make sparks around 5,000 degree farenheit, even when wet. I’ve always wanted to see what happens when you throw one into a fire (would it explode, or would it burn so hot it turned the firepit sand to glass).
Some people might call such an experiment pyromanianism, but I call it SCIENCE! 😀
@ Professor Igneous:
Science, eh?
Sounds like an excuse Larisa would use too 😀
Sandra: “Errr… Larisa… what are you-“
Larisa: “You can’t stop me! I do this for science!”
Cloud: “Well… should we try to stop her or just run for our lives?”
Sandra: “I watch her every move and you get a fire extinguisher from the campsite.”
Larisa: “MWAHAHAHAHAAA!”
Sandra: “Or better two or three…”
Pixar movies are for kissing, as we all know 😉
I had an oar do that to me when I hit a rock while navigating a river. Good thing we always had three in the canoe.
In all of my years as a scout, or a volunteer (I’m now at 15) I only ever had one trip spoiled by unexpected weather.
It was a week long scout base camp we had set up, when a Texas thunderhead began to blow in. Rained for the last two days of the camp, and we got the warning about 30 minutes before the hail got there.
Fortunately, our camp quartermaster was a Marine Gunnery Sargent and had that camp organized so that we got out of there with almost 10 minutes to spare.
@ Novil
I love Larisa’s hair in panel #1. It looks so emo, and fits her perfectly. You should keep her hair that way.
Is there nothing Pixar can’t fix?
Well, I used to hear that the cake was a lie, now it’s the weather?!? Just goes to show you, tough, that weather forecasting is still an inaccurate science. It just is impossible to make a 100% accurate weather bulletin, because the weather might change in the next following hours.
Side note: good to see that their chaperon, Harvey, has a sense of initiative.
If the cake is a lie. And the weather is a lie, then the weather is a cake?
(Yes I know it’s a logical flaw. Been watching too many political ads)
The only electronis that have anyplace on a camping trip are those that provide the weather.
they must be watching UP
The cake is a lie and the pie is a fake
The weather is a lie, and the climate is a fake
Therefore:
The climate is pie and the weather is cake
@ AckAckAck:
The idea of Calvin with access to those books is simultaneously terrifying and incredibly…the best word I can think of is ‘uplifting’. If ever that kid could have found literary heroes, it would have been in there.
Pyre wrote:
Actually my version is based on a C&H strip where Calvin debating with his father about something (his father authority in the house or something like that) and ended up with him being sent back to his room with a book (Tom Sawyer or H. Finn) and he said to Hobbes that his dad gave that book to him because “He can associate with it”
I’m just try to re imagining it if that strip is drawn today, with all new technologies and Pixar movies (That I think became a morality compass for our era (2000-present day)
