[0271] Council Of War
└ posted on Thursday, 12 May 2011, by Novil
The current story arc started with this strip: A New Adventure.
- Sandra: Chainsaws.
- Cloud: Probably lumberjacks. If they saw us, they’d certainly take us back to the river. Without Woo!
- Sandra: Can anyone hear where the sounds are coming from?
- Larisa: It’s hard to tell.
- Cloud: Let’s hold a council of war!
- Cloud: They have to be either here, here or here. Let’s go to the left. If the sounds get louder, then we’ll know that we have to go the other way.
- Cloud: Then we can attack them from behind and eliminate them before anybody suspects a thing!
- Cloud: Sorry.
- Larisa: You should spend less time with your mother, Cloud.
Makes perfect sense to me
Sings, “I’m a lumberjack and I’m ok, I sleep all night and I work all day.
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopin’ and have buttered Scots for tea!
I’m a lumberjack and I’m ok, I sleep all night and work all day.
I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press world flaws
I’ll put on women’s clothing and hang around in bars!
I’m a lumberjack and I’m ok, I sleep all night and work all day!”
@ Melanie:
Also, best comic, EVAR!
I’d less be worried about the lumberjacks and more about the trees they might accidently drop on you.
Do not thwart a mastermind! You never know when a chainsaw might come in handy!
Be careful guys! They can surround you on their next turn, and you guys have yet to build a capital city! Quickly! Build a barracks!
Don’t do it! The Lumberjacks are at a territorial advantage, and thus gain +5 to all stats!
To continue my last comment: Look on the bright side, at least they all didn’t lose their minds.
Next i think would be the strip where the walk left and from the right the Woo and Blacky appear.
And let’s not forget that, after taking out the lumberjacks, they’ll have a new batch of weapons to equip!
@ Blitz:
Darn skippy they will!
Might be workable… Depends on how many lumberjacks there are. Cloud’s only weapon is a survival knife, most likely… It’s good though, he can take them out silently with that. A chainsaw would be way too loud… My strategy would be to lie in the grass, wait for them to approach and pick them off silently, one by one. My only concern is that I don’t know what color his shirt is, so it may or may not make for good camouflage.
…Situations like this call for Metal Gear Solid, not Final Fantasy. 😛
Cloud’s mom is awesome! cloud has a good plan, except for the last part.
I guess that’s what happens when you’re named after a character from a video game and live with parents who are obsessed with said game.
@ Kid of Death:
Actually, this was most likely a reference to the “Burmese guerrilla” context of his mother.
@ Nyerguds:
I’m not even going to pretend that I know what you’re talking about. Burmese guerrilla?
@ Kid of Death:
Are you serious? Didn’t you read the comic? She used to be a burmese guerilla fighter.
@ Nyerguds:
Oh yea. Sorry. Been up all night and my brain’s kinda dead. Dunno how I forgot that.
One of the funniest strips so far 😀
The training is strong in this one.
Second-last panel is just priceless
hmmm no larissa…He should spend MORE TIME with his mom
I don’t see a flaw in this strategy.
There’s nothing wrong with Cloud listening to his momma. Now, if he starts listening to his sister then you need to be worried… Because that would mean she has crossed the threshold of genius into Maxwell Lord territory.
May I just say, I love the sixth panel! It takes me back to my childhood

I just could not help but laugh out loud at the creative mangling of this Python classic.
No need to worry though – everyone in the office already knows that I’m the token weird geek.
“You got that right”
“You betcha”
“Tell me about it”
“Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah”
“Totally”
@ Billy Joe:
Yes, they have, it is not easy to win with enemy what have home ground advantage.
Ye Thuza is winning without being present. That’s pretty impressive, actually.
Well… Cloud’s strategy has one critical flaw…
Have they ascertained that they are ORC lumberjacks?
Because that could change EVERYTHING…
You are trying to avoid the lumberjacks, not neutralize them, Cloud.
i woulda thought larissa would have jumped up and agreed, and saundra would have smacked em. actualy thats sounds like somthing me, my sister, and our friends woulda done. wait… actualy we did with these construction workers, but they turned out to be impervious to toys-R-us lightsabers. >:( but i did get a screw driver for like 10 seconds. 😀
When cloud finishes the war counsel, the other two just have this amusing blank stare. LOL.

Just a note
It’s “I press wild flowers”
Epic time suspension in the before-last panel. Ahhh, Cloud.
It looks like his training includes tactics as well as personal combat. That’s not terribly surprising, although it’s a little disturbing how carried away he’s getting.
Just as long as you don’t build a tiger trap.
