@ Nick/Tyrong:
The knife doesn’t have to be at the wolf’s neck. The position of Cloud’s right arm means he could easily slash the neck if he wanted to. Of course, it would have been hard for the artist to depict the knife at the throat, considering the angle we’re looking from would have obscured it.
Considering Cloud says “One false move and it’s game over,” I don’t think he was planning to take out the eye, though Burtan does raise a good point. But the line implied Cloud would kill the wolf if it tried anything (yes, you do have to take an accepted break from reality for that to make sense). From that position, particularly if the wolf tried anything, he could definitely slash/stab the neck.
“Is Woo OK?”
Simple fact. Woo is never going to be OK, again. Mental scarring will leave him forever in fear of the open wilderness. He’s going to require regular therapy sessions, become a rather pampered pet, literally become like sticky paper to some old friends from pages long past, be forever fearful of shadows from flying things, wince at all distant K-9’s, probably despise the very sight of any firearm…in a couple words, he’s grown a whole book full of development, from these experiences.
I live with cats. They develop life long traits and fears from surprise encounters.
Cloud placed the knife directly in Roq’s line of sight for intimidation, though a quick thrust would easily and fatally bury the blade in his/her? eye and about two inches into the brain about half a second into any resistance. In addition to a tackle that clearly slammed Roq’s head into the ground, Cloud has his knee over his pinned opponent’s neck with the wolf’s legs in no position to push against Cloud’s greater weight. The irregular, looping movement lines in Roq’s retreat also imply dizziness from impact or oxygen/blood deprivation to the cranium. Pack mentality also inclines a wolf to flee with it’s fellows even if it thinks it has a good chance of winning.
I wouldn’t suggest trying this against a wild animal in RL (indeed you’d have to be even more insane than I will admit to being) but with the known factors this encounter turned out rather logically.
So much argueing….over a wolf…..If this had been a bear or a mountain lion or heck bigfoot none of this would be going on. >.> Anyway great to see another strip. I wonder if mr hunter will show up….
@ WolfieMario:
Sorry, but I’m not seeing it (again, ignoring the lack of reality.) I’d have bet on the wolf. Cloud moves his arm? The wolf’s snout is already loose form the grin of the 12 year old with its teeth goign to sink into either arm. Not like this wolf’s neverbeen wounded. They’re wolves. They’re lucky, really, a deer hasn;t kicked out ALL their eyes, when you come rght down to it. And yeah, you’d be surprised at how common that really is, generally. One small cut on the snout likely isn;t too big of a deal, since that’s, by my judgement, al cloud would be able to do. I’d think a wof woulf be faster than him.

hmm no…since woo was like trash to his first master…..and he does not fear humans, otherwise he would hate Sandra, not love her…
Please make more. I enjoy them alot and would love to keep reading them.

I love the comic, this arc disappointed me though. It seemed like a plot that any comic could have used, and it feels like it’s been done before. Multiple times. Perhaps it will have a good finale?
On a side note, why did you redraw the exact same expression on sandras face? If it were me I’d draw a slightly different one. At a first glance it looked like you copied a frame and only altered the part with Larisa in it, like in Garfield, where they just re-use the same frames in different comics.
That went well. Good thing there were only 3 wolves. And none came back.

it’s definately not the same… notice th slow moving specially on her hand, she just surprised probabily with something else… or with the situation itself, because everything happened really fast there…. and she is probabily fixing to see if woo is ok, still shocked with the scene of the wolf running toward cloud…. or both, so slow moving 🙂
also on the Wolf vs 12yo kid fight… i think you’re thinking humans are defenseless animals…. 12yo kid? well the wolf have half that age if any… so why that matter? 12yo humans are almost adults already… it’s just the society and peace that slow down everything… also cloud isnt a regular 12yo guy…. he was trained, by a “soldier”, he can be very deadly…
and i’m surprised with you guys…. because earlier on the came we saw clearly that animals attacks preys based on size… and that matter a lot, so even being a wolf…. he got clearly intimidated with fearless cloud imobilizating it… and so surviving is more important.
Well, it is fiction, but the idea of someone even well trained in martial arts (forget about the size/age for a moment) hurting a large wolf *Is* unbelievable. It’s good he had a knife, but it’s a little hard to swallow. Wolves/dogs are MUCH faster than humans. You can have all the combat training in the world and that’s not going to change it. We are built very differently. This makes me think of a clients my father defended (he’s an attorney). They had 2 large dogs (huskies or malamutes I think). The male dog is *very* protective of the property and the female around strangers. Some guy is contracted to work for them and ignored a sign on the door that said the dogs are in the room and not to go in. The guy opens the door and the dog charges. Instead of being smart and running away he decides to try to beat up the dog. Guess who lost that fight? He also lost in court, too (lawsuits don’t work if you are proven to be an idiot). 🙂
Anyhow, this was just a domestic dog. Wolves are bigger, *more agile* and smarter than dogs (though one may question if Roq was dropped on his head or maybe contracted a case of rabies…the last would be very unfortunate for Woo). I won’t even compare the contractor’s size to Cloud (martial arts is a great “equalizer” that lets tiny people kick ass), but the situation still doesn’t really add up. Curious to see where this story takes us. Not sure if I like it or not yet.
@ Greg:
Read my post below, and do some research on animal attacks. Very few people come out unharmed in “hand-to-paw” combat with a large animal (particularly a wild one).
As always Larisa has the wrong mood again… -_-”
I hope Woo’s really okay. It would be sad if he were afraid of the wild from now on cuz of this… although conflicts move the story on so. 🙂
Am I the only one reading more into Sandra’s expression, like “the hunter’s right behind Woo and is about to shoot his tail off”? She looks more scared about something than “impressed by Cloud”. Not sure how to interpret Woo’s expression, though I figure it’s mostly shock from more trauma on an already horrible horrible day.
One thing about Cloud overpowering Roq (though I think this strip feels a bit anticlimactic with Roq already running off) is not so much that he had the knife at his throat but that he landed on him really hard from a good height. And he slammed Roq’s head against the ground. So Roq was hurt and stunned by the attack, not just scared from having a knife at his… nose. (Cloud’s gonna cut yer nose off!)
Looks like Woo and Sandra are both in shock.. The obvious reason would be Cloud’s attack.
And were I that wolf, I would run off too. I think the anti-climactic end fits very well. Now as to where the “crazy” hunter is, I suspect we might see him soon.
Dunno, I can see the same expression being stuck on someone’s face. I’d think that it would be a result of trying to grind through a very sudden mix of “OMG Woo is gonna get eaten! OMG Cloud is gonna get eaten! OMG that was awesome! OMG I want to have your babies. like right now. Maybe after I stop having my heart pounding in my ears. And a bit of a nap. And maybe a cry.”
Is it just me or are more people conctrating on proving/disproving this secene than trying to figure out what will happen next?

Looking at the last picture, Roq is running away, but he does not look defeated yet. A beaten wolf or dog would put his tail between its legs as a sign of inferiority to his opponent. Roqs tail is raised.
Probably just a detail missed by powree, but it it could mean that Roq will be back for more and this is just a tactical retreat.
@ Nick/Tyrong:
Ok you got me on the knife position but that’s it. Wolves are not slathering murderous beasts. Dogs are descended form wolves after all. when caught their first thought is escape not killing. Truth be known wolves are (for the most part) cowards which is a good survival trait. Only desperate or diseased wolves would attack a healthy adolescent human alone. And than to be immobilized so quickly and a knife waved in front of his eyes? Remember they are supposed to be intelligent enough to speak.
@ Gamesman:
Hm, I suppose. I stills ay it’s stpid for him to have done that (again, 12 year old kid) but I suppose running from such an event might be likely. Although, again, I thought Woo was the exception of the whole talking thing. Tat’s what I’ve been getting all this time. When the animals talk, they can all understand each toher because they’re animals. Yes, there have been things where the animals sound fine to each other, crossing species barriers, but sound like animals to humans. Dr Doolittle, for example. So I stillf ind it odd wrong that he’s reacting to the THREAT. Now, being afraid of the claw, maybe. I might buy that, though I’d still be expectigthe wolf to make a SNAP at Cloud, at the least. Again, the rules with the animals talking aren;t too clear, overall.
Is woo ok?
No woo isn’t alright… he’s been rabid-ized. He’s been bitten on ht leg by a wolf Oh No!
woo got rabies!
Well, it was ONE special attack.
Sandra -> This is my O-face
Wow, no copy/paste. I can tell because there are slight differences in Snadra’s face between the two panels she is in. I must say, good job making her look dumbfounded!
@ Nick/Tyrong:
I suggest you have another look at the last panel from the last strip, with both eyes open this time. Cloud has it’s jaws pinned shut and his weight on top of it. He may “only” be twelve, but that’s still far too much for the wolf to just shrug off. And seriously, “Wiggle, snap, bye-bye Cloud”? More like “Wiggle, stab, knife through the eye into the brain, bye-bye wolf”. And yes, wolves are smart. Smarter than anyone who thinks taking another shot at someone who just kicked their ass and threatened to kill them is a good idea, certainly…
Roq: “Screw this…I’m going to see whether Link has that stunt double position open…”
