The current story arc started with this strip: a.r.t.I.
There are six new polls that appear randomly in the voting box on the right sidebar of the webpage. They’re mostly about topics that advertisers find interesting about the visitors of a website. It would be good if I could provide our advertisers some solid facts about the composition of our readership.
- Larisa: He ruined my painting!
- Ivan : She ruined my painting!
- Jelena: Shhhh!
- Jelena: Yes, Mr. Morgenthau, something clever for the exhibition in San Francisco … Oh, looks like my husband just finished two new paintings … Yes, I can send you a photo.
- Jelena: $5,000?! … Yes, that sounds very good! I’ll send you the paintings as soon as the paint is dry.
- Jelena: What was that about ruined pictures?
|
LOL!!! Awesome!!! And the looks on their faces are also worth $5,000.
Ah, nothing like a voice of reason to calm the most violent of conflict.
Allow me to present my reason: Little pieces of paper with important people’s faces on them.
So many people called this and it’s still funny.
They make one hell of an artists combo.
5000$ for just two paintings, simply awesome!
It amuses me that Jelena expresses genuine concern only after she’s made the sale.
i’m betting that their stunned silence is either disbelief that the paintings sold or how much they sold for. either way its amusing
Ouch. I didn’t know it was possible for someone else to “sell out” for you.
As obvious as the conclusion was the faces are still awesome XD
At least it really is art, not like Picasso who sold his “work” for nothing but his name after he became popular >,<'
(I don't want to start an art discussion here but I think most people know what I mean…)
… I just have to make that joke. *harrumph*
With her share of the money Larisa can finally effort that flamethrower 😛
I’m going straight to hell for this but:
Larissa definitely looks a little more, oh, what’s the word… “excited” at the prospect of the money.
And thus, a fruitful artistic collaboration was born.
Also, nothing like the promise of money to resolve an argument 😀
Just when I thought Larissa’s mother had not even a small degree of authority in this family…
WAIT!!! IVAN IS LARRISSA’S DAD??? or Step-dad???
@ Gerardo:
I’ve always thought Jelena was the authority of their family. Except, authority just doesn’t know how to deal with Larisa.
Okay, Ivan had a great wive over there, a great painter can paint masterpieces, but they have to know how to sell it to the public, and Jelena is a great salesman.
They’re a great combo couple, one had great artistic endeavors while other is a cunning businesswoman, this is what I call the opposite attracts.
I wonder, will there be a backstory talking about Sandra’s, Cloud’s and Larissa’s parents? like how Sandra’s mom died? Ye Thuza and David’s meeting and escape from Burma? and How Ivan and Jelena falling in love?
Actually I want to know how Ivan and Jelena met each other, it can be turned into an interesting love story.
Sometimes I just don’t understand the art world…
Lol, who didn’t see this coming from a mile away?
@ alexander:
Theorectly yes
Sing off key with me now.
Money money money money moneyyyy……
MOOOONEYYYYYYYY!
They should “ruin” each others work more often.
Ah but is it $5000 for the pair split down the middle or is there some leverage?
Also, is she grinning her arse off at them in panel 5? Make sense if so as her back is to them.
The outcome was never in doubt.
No, seriously, I almost knew that this should end in something like this XD
KA-CHING!
Seriously their “inner demons” are going to earn them quite a bit of green, and possibly more if this plays out the way I think it will.
This is cute and all, but seriously I hope we see more of Sandra and Woo soon….Cloud also!
The last cell should be the illustration of “Struck Dumb” in the English phrase book.
Did anyone consider that one of the paintings sold wasn’t made by Ivan?
‘How to become a professional artist completely by accident’
Every morning there’s an idiot you can get money from waking up somewhere – you just have to find him…. Or at least a person with an …. unusual…. taste in art.
@ Iemand:
Well technically neither were, not completely. He contributed something to her work and vice versa, so neither painting is purely the product of the other. End result is she juxtaposed a smiling sun on his dreary landscape and he embedded a hanged skeleton within her happy field of flowers creating pieces vastly different than were intended and making them more interesting as a result.
@ Rex:
Wait, I thought it was $5000 for each painting.
And the jaws hit the floor. Very clever indeed ^^
It’s not really fair that he’s getting all the credit for both of them, is it..?
nice, like i said in the last strip, make some avatars out of the paintings… would look good, i think. ^^
@ Deko:
he’s her dad, she just refers to her parents by birthname
Thus proving that salesmanship is an art in its own right.
@ Wolfen:
Well all she said was that Ivan “Finished” not “Painted” them. He DID finish Larissa’s with the skeleton anyway. Ya gotta know the art of wording there Wolf.
DaD the angst riddled morbid artist of doom and gloom, MoM the no-holds-barred business woman with a sunshine-in-a-huricane positive personality. Add the two together and you get Larisa ….. which is what exactly?
Ah, and I concur – I would love icons or better yet postcards of those two paintings
(yes I collect postcards instead of making mu own photographs/prints. I know my limits and skill and space.)
Does Larisa get half?
So many things about art that is true in this.
I think I’d also pay some serious money for those paintings if I was rich.
Its like those paintings try to tell the viewer that the world is never really built up in black and white. no matter how dark and hopeless the situation seems, there will allways be some ray of sunlite to give you hope, to get you going. And no matter how nice and peacefull the moment seems, you will allways have this skeleton in your closet, haunting you, waiting to destroy the moment.
I’d love to see those paintings in a wallpaper format, it would totally spice up my desktop XD

She isnt better than most people, too comon for such a family. I guess she is the one who clean the mess, like an editor or a publisher, each night she pray that they dont blow it. She must be under a lot of Stress.
I would totally pay for those too, had I the money 😀
II think I’ll change the the background image of my phone.
But it is hard to decide between these two images … xD
next reaction will be a WOOHOO & a jump for joy XD
I’d be on Cloud 9 IF I got that money 😉
Larissa’s going to be a great artist one day.
Let’s see… I’ll hang the decrepit castle and happy sun in my kitchen. The skeleton hanging from the flower will go near the front door, so that everyone who drops by will be able to appreciate this fine work of art.
It’s a:
“Your chocolate is in my peanut butter!”
“Your peanut butter is on my chocolate!”
moment.
XD
Something like this would give my inner demons a ego bigger than mine
in a way i could see this coming. i just did’nt know her mother was selling their art.

Clever Girl.

@ Strife:
What’s to understand? It’s very simple: $$$ =/= Sense. (Or, as I like to put it, “If you’re so rich, why aren’t you smart?!”)
