- Sandra: It would be nice if I could find a couple of additional friends this year.
- Sandra: Come on, Sandra, you just have to become a little cooler.
- Teacher: Is anyone interested in joining the math project group? We’ll have a look at exciting problems in probability and statistics.
- Teacher: Yes, Sandra, very good. Anyone else?
- Sandra: So much for this resolution.

Wait… is she suggesting that statistics AREN’T cool?
First i thought that she was forcing herself NOT to raise the hand.
Then after reading it, i realized that she thinks Math is cool(it is cool, but not THAT cool)
i just wanna say, sandra is very cute but is me or in the first coomics she war more cutter? just saying…well i really love how it looks with color
Forever alone? (Not including Cloud, Larisa or Woo.)
I like how those blue lines slowly creep in on Sandra in this strip.
Also, like everyone else, I’m not sure if she’s trying not to join the math project and fails or if she thinks that math is cool. Hm…
In my high school there was a goodly overlap in smart and cool. I took advanced chem with several people that did the school plays and members of the lacrosse team. It’s not football, but on the east coast lacrosse is a reasonably big deal.
I think its a case of, she really likes maths but knows math project group isn’t the best way to get new additional friends as its viewed as ‘geeky’.
So its a case of failing her will save against joining the club ^^
She’s still cute though 🙂
New geeky friends ftw!
Seriously, I mean it. I’m a total nerd and the math club is how I met all of my more interesting friends XD
I absolutely love the colored strips! ♥ I liked Sandra and Woo before, but now I absolutely loved it! Both the art style and coloring complement each other.
Also, I’m envious of Sandra’s love for math and math skills. 🙂 Math is one of the subjects that is so practical to use when you’re older much to my dismay. 🙁
I think Sandra misunderstands the problem of her not making friends. Anyone that become friends with her will by extention spend more time around Larisa, and as we’ve seen in the last comic, that can be very bad for one’s health.
Being popular: You’re doin’ it wrong.
Lol sandra, thats going to get you lots of friends.

So..
woo xD sooo cool….I actually started reading this comic like….2 years ago?….and I dropped it till today xD I wanna read more 😀 keep it up (Y)
Cue shouts of “NERD!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111!!!!!!!!!!”. Ah, grade 7… I don’t miss it.
I have the exact opposite problem you do Sandra. I fully consider myself a nerd, yet for some reason people keep befriending me! (which wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t a bunch of manipulative crazy monkeys on cocain) So trust me, it’s not about the friends you don’t have. It’s about the friends you do have, and the ones that make your world such an enchanted, slightly less fireproof, one.
Calling it now: She will find a new geek friend
Anyone feel the urge to make a 20% cooler joke here?
Math is Cool!!!!!!!!!!!
Stats is not cool. Stats has never been cool. Quiz time –
Who formulated the Universal Law of Gravitation?
Who discovered the satellites of Jupiter?
Who devised the Theory of Relativity?
Who proposed evolution by natural selection?
Now…
Who invented the normal distribution?
See what I mean? The only statistical offshoot that is genuinely cool is card counting, but it requires acting ability to make a career out of it, and you’d better get used to being thrown out of casinos. And they don’t even allow minors in, so take that look off your face, Larissa. No, not even if you wore a long coat and sat on Cloud’s shoulders.
I….I understand you sandra ‘-‘….nobody think I’m someone serious just cuz I’m studying computer programming and I want to make Games….
My prediction? one of the Math team, a geeky boy start to like Sandra and start challenging Cloud for her hand.
Drama ensues, reader rage :p
Poor poor Sandra
I think she wanted to join the math group to be cooler, but nobody else joined. That’s why she was regretful– now she’s just the geek in the math group. Nobody likes math in her class. Well, math will show them. MATHEMATICS WILL HAVE ITS REVENGE!!
…I like math!
@ Bernadotte:
Well she was younger.
Also it’s “cuter” or “more cute”, NOT “more cutter”
There Is Always a Plan B!.
@ Coreshadow:
Haha! I see what you did there!
Not really a joke, but Gerardo linking “XKCD” makes him 20% cooler in my book. (Okay, *anyone* linking “XKCD” for any reason is 20% cooler in my book…)
I like math. I used to love math. Probability and Statistics though??? Bleh, those have to be the worst aspects of math for me. Give me calculus and algebra over stats! Math club is cool, Stats club however is just downright scary.
@ reynard61:
I dontlike It so much, Munroe can be a jerk sometimes and once in a while they throw a really lame joke, and there are propositions that are plain wrong, plus I dont like when the comic bash the Humanities or Social studies.
Of course my point of view is that Social Ciences and Math are not Science at all, for science to be scientific It must refer to the natural universe, from physics to Biology, outside that there is no science. Even if the method is scientific the dependance of a point of view that alters the result is obiously not scientific, you can throw all the graphs and numbers in the world and still fail to make an argument or to reach a single conclusion.
This is the first time, I’ve come across this comic & I have to say I’m usually more into long story oriented comics, but this one is an Amazing exception. Will start voting for you over at TWC! Great art. Might even do a guest art some day. 🙂
Ooh! The voting came back!
@ Greenwood Goat:
I believe Gauss discovered the normal distribution, hence the name, Gaussian. Statistics is also a fundamental for such things as nuclear engineering and medical research, to name a couple.
@ Coreshadow:
Nope.avi
But it’s nice to know there’s more of us watching this comic.

Cough quantum physics cough.
And I have to see the first math that depends on a “point of view altering the result”.
@ Bernadotte:
I’m guessing she grew from the cute girl she was to a cute mature girl.
@ myth buster:
Student was a brewer who discovered his T-Test in between batches of Guinness. Cool?
@ Deo:
Naah, I think your first thought was right.
Everything is very open with a really clear description of the issues. It was definitely informative. Your site is extremely helpful. Many thanks for sharing!
