[0321] Children

Ed Power and Melissa DeJesus who did the entertaining newspaper comic strip My Cage are currently writing a comic book titled “Santa vs. Dracula”. I don’t think you need three tries to guess what it’s about. 😉 However, they now need some more money to be able to finish the project and have opened a Kickstarter project for it. If an epic fight between Santa’s and Dracula’s forces is your cup of tea, you might want to donate something for it.

- Yuna: To get past the Oogdoog you have to do a double-backflip with the L2 button, Daddy.
- David: Children. Nothing makes you feel so proud and so old at the same time.
So true.
sounds like my father. and yes unfortunatly the modern games make an older person feel old becouse they understand it less then they used to.
yet its so enjoyable~
30-40 years later Yuna will say the same exact thing, in the same exact situation.
As a gamer that prefer slow paced genres like Sims, strategy, Point and Click Adventure, RPGs, and some others I can say I will not have this kind of inferiority complex. I don’t mind seeing kids running around in Ninja Gaiden or Street Fighter IV kicking ass in high speed while I will walk slowly in dark corridors and fields of Dark/Demon’s Souls.
also on the other news, I made a custom character in dark souls based on Larissa. she’s a Pyromancer of course, and she’s badass, burning undeads left and right. And she actually carry a firemen axe, how fitting.
To get past what?
Sadly, David doesn’t look all that old. Then again, I’m 31, look young for my age (people say all the time), but still get moments where I feel oh so old.
“Thank you, Yuna. You’ve made a happy man very old.”
My little brothers are like this all the time. Even when I’m playing against them!
ok…call me pedobear….
I love you Yuna *__*
I girl that knows how to play video games,IS a good girl
(that cuz, where I live…girls doesn’t even know who is Mario and who is Luigi)
Look on the bright side, David: at least you’re playing the same game as The Kids These Days. Some of us old farts can’t even make it THAT far…
Found the comic two hours ago and now I have to wait for more…
Wait. Did I just spend two hours reading a comic I stumbled on by chance?
That’s one good comic.
Great work.
Ah, I see how Ye Thuza and David fell in love, they are both masters. Yathuza is a master fighter and David is a master of breaking the fourth wall.
I’ve been through this exact situation with my dad. I help him out with video games all the time. Doesn’t mean he’s bad at video games! It just means that I’m good.
Who said girls can’t be gamers?
ALso most parents suck at video games (except game addicts, like yuna’s father)
well back in the day all we had to do was hit the a button and maybe the b button oh and sometimes if we wanted to be fancy there was a c button too
“What? Do you need to use the hands? That’s for babies!”
[Note: I’m translating from Spanish version, so it would be a bit different]
Been there… my little girl playing “Kingdom Hearts” made me feel really old… “Wait, what did you do just now?” – “I found a shortcut. Didn’t you find it too, daddy?” – “Uhm… no…”
Although, to be true, I didn’t yet lose the status of “game expert”… lucky me… isn’t that a good thing considering I’m 44 years old? ^^ Just don’t try those reaction games any more, just stick to those round based ones…
Try taking the dialogue out of panel two.
I think it would have flowed better, but that’s just me.
Haha. I know this feeling all too well. Also, is that a coloration error on his collar I spy?
@Novil: There appears to be a typo in the German version of this comic (oogdoog is spelled with 3 ‘o’s there)
There’s nothing wrong with being a girl gamer or an older gamer. (I’m 29 now and ain’t getting any younger)
However, being a gamer, I *did* notice one minor issue — He’s holding an XBox360 controller and there is no L2 button on that. There’s the Left bumper and left trigger, LB and LT respectively, but no L2. The L2 is only found on the PS controllers. Like I said, minor issue, not a huge deal.
First comment on the comic and it’s me pointing out an issue… I swears, I love the comic!!
Reminds me of when I watch my dad play Batman: Arkham Asylum.
David, Look at it this way, You have a walking walkthrough, Other people need to pause their game and check the internet for that.
Girls good at video games? Yeah right.
*plays brawl and loses to someone playing as zelda*
Coming from a self professed videogame nerd, that must really hurt. And you know the sad thing is that, she probably beat the videogame already. And will grow up to not even care about, or like videogames. Just like all girls do.
I’m a child and I approve this message.
Now that I think about it, there’s something about his hair that makes me really like it. And that’s coming from a guy.
Shizzle, David looks so hawt! D’you think its in their Genes?
@ TheLoneWulf:
Yep, was going to say the same thing about the controller. Just wanted to see if anyone else had spotted it.
Back in my day, there weren’t no L2 button! There was the control pad, select, start, B, and A! And we liked it! 😉
(Actually, I do go a bit farther back than that… my first system had a control stick and a fire button, and that was it. And now I have a Wii, an Xbox 360, and a DS.)
