Poll results (Part 2 of 2)
Here is the second and last part of my presentation of the results of the polls running in the right sidebar of the Sandra and Woo website. The first part was posted on Sunday.
Poll from 19 August 2011:
67% of our readers are between 15 and 23 years old, only 8% are 31 or older. This means that the average age is now even lower compared to the same poll from 22 June 2009 where 13% answered to be 31 or older.
Poll from 19 August 2011:
Exactly one third of our readers are female. I guess that’s above the general average of webcomic readers. It’s also a significant increase compared to the same poll from 23 June 2009 where only 23% were female.
Poll from 19 August 2011:
I think this poll yielded several unexpected results. I didn’t expect that “Reading” and “Art” would get that many votes. It’s also interesting that “Music” got more than twice as many votes as “Movies”. Although many of our readers are still teenagers, 10% of them expressed a strong interest in serious topics such as politics while only 1% are particularly fond of mobile phones. Playing or watching sports is far less popular than in the general public. I didn’t expect these activities to reach one of the top positions, but to receive several times the number of votes they actually got.
Poll from 19 August 2011:
Two thirds of our readers are still in education. The poll also shows that a lot of young people have troubles to find a job in the current economic situation.
Poll from 19 August 2011:
Almost a third of our readers are heavy internet users. But 25% also use it at most 1 hour a day.
Poll from 19 August 2011:
Since two third of our readers are still in education, the informative value of this poll is somewhat limited.
It could be that many of the older readers (like me apparantly) get the commic through the RSS feed.
and we don’t see the polls. As a result, we won’t answer them as much, skewering the results it also means we don’t get the adds, which kinda sucks for your income).
At least that is how it works for me.
Look! A poll!
You have the wrong poll methodology!
See, I never, ever before even KNEW there is a “poll”, so I could NOT check in!
Next: How long was the poll up? I only check every now-and-then, so if it wasn’t up long enough, I could not tell you anything!
Next problem – poll placement on small screens:
So..I’m umm, 30? Make it 30.
I send some Sandra & Woo stories to my cousin, she is 16 Y.O..
And all she saw was only the advertisement for your fantasy story!
I has to explain to her (a computer expert) that she has to scroll down. She: (facepalm)
Okay, I only saw this by a mere accident.. using the 1024×600 screen (maximum allowed resolution by Intel and Microsoft) so, I would not see any poll under normal circumstances.
Plius, I have gone mobile, and many people did. No longer you sit in front of inmovable CRT screen on a telephone line dial-up internet. 3G GSM internet is the norm now. That means smaller and smaller screens.
Please optimise for the oppressed people too. That means you have to publish all important links in the top 500-540 pixel lines. (like: “A new poll below!”)
I hope will make it into the next poll – with my occasional checking and small screens.
I hope you’ll see this!
Sweet! I conclude that your comic causes reverse aging! I’m going to tell all my friends and my parents to read it! 😀
(Seriously though, I’m 30 and didn’t even know there was a poll. ):
I’m female and 25 years old (will be 26 in February) but have not (until now) seen your polls.
