Oreos, saving squirrels from being eaten since 1912.
Somehow, I can’t see a cute little character stuck in a snowy forest, hunted by furry carnivores without expecting to see Rat Creatures.
Sid, you silly squirrel! You need to eat BEFORE winter and sleep through the season!
What an evil raccoon.
Ouch, poor Sid.That’s got to suck. Die if you stay, probably die if you leave.
Is that a bear? Wolverine?
No, Sid! Go now while they’re still filling up on bunny!
@ germanvisitor:
Yes, I thought the same. However, wolverine has nothing to do with wolf. Look it up in the english Wikipedia.
By the way: Raccoons like bears sleep through the winter, while squirrels wake up from time to time to eat. Foxes are stay awake.
So, the only thing “wrong” (jet funny) here is the raccoon (which is actually sleeping).
@ Marj:
better , go now that they are trying to eat each other
heheh.very good update, nice to see Sid again.
And the poster means he’s both homesick and starving?
Poor thing D:
He needs to call up Sandra, and get some supplies brought in.
What… he didn’t think to pick up a lost mobile? Or learn Sandra’s number? Oh, well, looks like starving to death in safety and comfort it is.
Sometimes the Hardest battle is against yourself Sid
have faith and go look for some tasty fruit on a tree….or just run like hell to a better place
it’s your choice
i hope woo shows up with food for Sid or something
Well that was a sudden change in story-line. I thought we were still on the subject of the cannibal internet provider.
@Zack: Red and gray squirrels do not hibernate. However, Sid, should have laid in more stores for the winter.
No dought Woo will climb up to save the day, no dought scaring the bajebus out of him.
No dought Woo will climb up to save the day, scaring the bajebus out of him.
Maybe Sid’s fox buddy, Shadow, will -bring- him a snack. 🙂
(Sid is some kind of -European- squirrel accidentally sent to America.)
There must not be much in the way of prey if that many predators are after that bunny.
Bunny! T_T :'(
@ Iron Ed:
Or Shadow, in need for food for his family will pay a visit to Sid, his emergency foo… I mean best friend.
*Holy hand grenade not required.
(Unless its Dante (Google Brainslug), then panel 5 would be flipped)
O.o eheheh better to die a slow death then quick one XD or is it the other way around
It’s your own fault that you have to squirrel away into a hole. After all, there are only three cable companies in the United States. I don’t know how big a percentage of the overall national market that is, but brand loyalty was bound to kick up more than a little buzz. Also, you’re comic is starting to pick up recurring theme of child abuse. I honestly don’t think a third of your audience wants to identify with the abuser and, your comic, as a work of commercialized art suffers for it.
“If you go out in the woods today
You’re sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today
You’d better go in disguise.”
“If you go out in the woods today,
You’d better not go alone.
It’s lovely out in the woods today,
But safer to stay at home.”
@ Blitz:
that comment should put a smile on jeff smith’s face…
I read the second to last panel as the bunny killing the predators (Monty Python style). It made the comic 10x better.
Oh yay, we’re suddenly/finally back to the plotlines and types of humor that made this comic good.
@ EternalLurker:
I wouldn’t count my chickens before they’re hatched… the past few story lines have all been turkeys. Everyone knows turkey’s are famous for putting one to sleep.
This world is a really dark place. Even for animals.
wolverine + fox + raccoon + rabbit = well-fed wolverine?
I’m just a squirrel, in this world. Trying to bust a nut.
The bear and coon wouldn’t stand a chance of catching the rabbit, and the fox might fail as well if it didn’t catch it right away. Rabbits have speed to make up for everything else.
XkCD has racoons!

Stupid, Stupid Rat Creatures!
My question, tho, is which one got the 3 course meal?
Poor bunny. Sucks being near the bottom of the food chain.
And poor Sid, who’s probably thinking eating the tree bark is preferable to stepping outside and becoming a light snack (and probably thinking he should have stored more food).
As in who won between the bear, fox, and raccoon…I guess it really depends on who was the hungriest (or the most desperate). Those animals look hungry enough to attack anything that moved and that includes each other. What are the chances that the three would “share” the spoils?
I would have put bets on the bunny, but the dead bunny icon in panel six kinda ruined that scenario.
Did the carnivores eat the rabbit? Or does Sid live near Caerbannog?
😉
Actually Sid can stay in the top of the trees and stay relatively safe. The danger will be when he descends.
Wolverines do not hibernate but survive on winter-killed carrion and like hyenas can digest bones.
@ Layman:
Yep. Middle of a harsh winter like that.
Bunnies are vicious.
Shouldn’t they all be hibernating?
Fortunately, along with being a European red squirrel lost in America, Sid is also a cartoon character! Which means the writer and artist can write/draw him better food, shelter and a family! They can even write/draw him traveling to Europe, though as that would mean losing him as a character, perhaps not. But the former can certainly be done, so please, give Sid some good luck!

Yes, Let us all bow our heads and remember how Tintin died with his creator… with Tintin encased in plaster.
