- Echo: A squirrel can do only one thing when the mind of a fox gets overwhelmed by its hunger for succulent rodent meat.
- Sid: That would be?
- Echo: It must run, my little friend, as far as its feet will carry it.
- Sid: What if they carry it zero centimeters?
- Echo: I wouldn’t like to be in the fur of such an unlucky fellow.
- Sid: Me neither.

echo look very very cool there, but i sense a lot of sarcasm ;p
I like how Echo’s all sympathetic and tells Sid he needs to escape but never actually lets go of him.
She’s stalling, hoping something will override her instincts.
Only in in Sandra and Woo have I ever seen friendship and the predator versus prey dynamic pitted against each other in this manor.
I’m surprised Echo HASN’T eaten him already. I should think she knows Sid, though, what with him being a close friend of Shadow’s. Perhaps she doesn’t want to, and is, internally, trying to stall herself hoping Shadow will be back soon with something better to eat.
I really don’t see how he’s getting out of this one. Preparing to be surprised in 3, 2, 1…
“I would not like to be in the fur of such an unlucky fellow”
Well you can help him out of that fur…
@ Godel Fishbreath:
That may actually be part of the problem…
Weren’t her eyes brown in the last strip?
@ Renia:
Looking back at it, it seems they are more of a yellow color. BTW, exactly WHY did you remember her eye color?
@ IndigoRei:
XD GOOD ONE!!
@ LupisLight:
That’s the feeling I get from this. She’s hungry yes but she doesn’t want to eat her friend.
@ ekimmak:
Shadow will show up. DUH!! Although I’m guessing he won’t have any food either, and since he is Sid’s friend more than she is, he will probably do his best to stall his hunger while at the same time trying to wrench Sid from her grip enough to let him run, and then they will chase after him. Watch me be right, or at least close.
@ illeatyourself:
I don’t think so, remember how he reacted when Woo first caught and met him? You catch him, it’s your prey, you can do what you want with him, I think that’d apply to his mate and offspring when they catch something as well.
Sid: What if I told you that I don’t have succulent rodent flesh, because technically I’m not a rodent?
Echo: Even if that were true… succulence overrides semantics.
Silly Sid. Instead of exercising his legs, he should have used his tail to tickle her nose.
I had to re-read that last part, but FUNNY!
it looks more like she’s trying to teach him to defend himself
SID the hedgehog!!! oh wait…wrong comic…..my bad
@ illeatyourself: No idea why I remembered her eye color (^_^;) But I was just pointing that out because I found it odd not to be rude or anything
Well sid, I hope shadow brings a rabbit home or something, because other wise your screwed.
also bring back the voting button, it would make voting for S&W so much easier.
@ illeatyourself:
I also noticed the eye color, though likely because I clicked Next to get here from the last strip.
She’s stalling herself until Shadow comes back with better food. But what I see happening is that he will come back empty handed and think of eating Sid. I just wonder, why don’t these two go to Woo’s? Woo is always well fed anyways. Sid’s mistake, even coming here. Or, that wolf might just come into the den to get Sid. After all, it’s winter, so anyanimal will do anything to get anyanimal to eat.
My, such a beautiful concept of predator and prey! I sense a lot of respect is between these two characters, even in this inauspicious situation. *sees the last two panels* oh, yeah… and a lot of sarcasm, too. Quick Sid! Start talking about how the Canadian Squirrels took over your environment and you need to bring on the entire faith of the species!
Ah so She knows about the contagious factor the eating of the unlucky induces too, hence the lack of Nom.
This is entirely Sid’s fault for being so snaculent and tenderized from a lazy winter of eating nothing but flavorful acorns. Squirrel stew, anyone?
You would think he’d be more cautious around his predator friends (i.e. making sure they’ve eaten before moving within pouncing range) since Shadow’s already tried to eat him at least once before (that we’ve seen, anyway).
I know foxes are catlike, but do you have to play with your food?
@ Shadow Raikou:
You be right… except for the fact that the wolf would probably just eat the fox and kit that’s in the den and then the squirrel. Wolves aren’t picky, they’ll eat just about anything. But if the wolf did come to the den then Echo would fight him tooth and claw, BECAUSE it’s her den and there’s a kit that is implied in said den. Besides, It’s not that easy to find a fox’s den. Sid knows about because he was shown it.
@ IndigoRei:
Well, I didn’t think the burrow was that big… 😛
I can’t see why Narcissus didn’t want a vixen like that. Bright fur, nice markings, anthropomorphic features and bright blue eyes! They could have been the perfect couple, had Narcissus never run across a large body of water or a mirror.
@ m:
I don’t get why you’re bringing Greek mythology into this… Unless you aren’t talking about the original Narcissus? :s
@ WolfieMario:
Because her name is Echo, of course! 😉
Wonderful dialog and very beautiful panels (specially the fourth one).
@ m:
Ah, clever :p
I like the facial expressions in this one.
Wait. Try “as far as its feet can carry it.” That flows more natively to me, at least.
Why does Echo suddenly have the eyes of a Female?
Or have I been gone for a while?
Daniel wrote:
Ummm… Because she’s a girl? 🙂 Echo is Shadow’s wife/mate!
Dkas merciar leir ja, ja. Lu strei mar di promer ja sen.
@ Iron Ed:
Oh Goodie. I really have been away a while. 😐
Derp.
@ Crestlinger:Although squirrel IS delicious.
It’s really hard to feel sorry for Sid, since from where I’m sitting, he brought all of this on himself. Not only did he not stock enough food for the winter, and therefore had to go out looking for some, but he also thinks that the middle of winter when all the predators are starving is a good time to go visit Shadow? Just eat him, Echo. If you don’t, it won’t be long before someone else does.
Centi- oh! Of course. Sid is an *European* squirrel.
@ LupisLight:
Yes, yes!
I think that’s ba..
I agree completely.
