[0494] The Golden Age Of Raccoons
└ posted on Thursday, 27 June 2013, by Novil
Our yearly Sandra and Woo fanart contest has started and will run until 22 July 2013! The total prize money for the five winners is $400 this year!
- Woo: During the storm, when the feeling came over me that Lily was in danger, was that you?
- Seeoahtlahmakaskay: Yes.
- Woo: Wow, thank you! The gods rarely interfere in the lives of us mortals, right?
- Seeoahtlahmakaskay: Yes, but this time I deemed it proper. Because one day, Lily will give birth to a kit who will lead the masked ones into a golden age!
- Seeoahtlahmakaskay: Raccoons all over the world will gather under her banner and build a civilization that rivals the one of the humans two thousand orbits ago.
- Seeoahtlahmakaskay: No. Don’t just believe everything your goddess tells you!
Men shall fall under the might of the Raccoon
I would say something witty about woo being tricked by a goddess but i cant think of anything so instead this will do: [insert witty comment here]
Touched by a goddess: nose beep of the divine.
It did sound like a glorious future.
But would mankind and racoon society life peacefully side by side, or do we need to make room for our new racoon overlords?
Now we need to explore the various religons of the rest of the cast. There is so many unanswered questions!
What fox-gods does Shadow and Echo believe in?
Witch deity does Larisa follow?
WHO DOES TOM THE TALKING TOAST WORSHIP!?
Seeoahtlahmakaskay is officially my new favorite goddess.
Also, I just noticed, we are almost at strip nr. *500*!
For such a milestone we are sure to get something special, right?
She’s a raccoon goddess, of course she’ll be tricky like a raccoon. I betcha She also is responsible for Woo’s ability to speak Human, hmm? 😉
Approaching a forest clearing, you see two animal deities – you know that one always lies and the other always tells the truth. You are allowed to ask one deity one question. What question should you ask in order to determine which deity is which?
Answer: “Hey! Where did my packed lunch go?” The truthful deity is the one that doesn’t immediately assume an expression of feigned innocence. >:=)>
The last Pannel reminds me strongly of “Dogma”!!
“mööp” xD <3
it seems Woo is finding it out
Clearly the best raccoon goddess ever.
What? It’s not everyday Woo gets to be “Reese” Raccoon.
@ Mr_Nabby:
i saw what you did there…misspelled “which” on purpose….(lol)
Seeoahtlahmakaskay seems to be a descendant of Loki.
I have been accused of being minor demon of comic insanity (situational) so I approve.

Surtr, the fire lord of the Norse / Vikings.
I love you, Miss Raccoon Goddess XD
I think Seeoahtlahmakaskay would look AMAZING colored, and would love to see fanart to that effect–I wonder if she would count as a character in the fanart contest…..
I’d worship a goddess if I could go talk to them and they had a sense of humour like that.
I think Seeoahtlahmakaskay told a fib there. Not in panel 2, but in panel 4.
This way, She gets to have her prophesy and still not have to worry about the foreknowledge warping Lillysdottir’s childhood.
And later, She can tell Woo, “I told you about this!’
Woo: But when I asked “really?” you said “no!”
Seeoahtlahmakaskay: And then I warned you not to believe everything I told you. Why should you have believed that “no”?
Frankly, a civilization that rivals that of humans’ from 2000 years ago… would be very impressive for raccoons, but not much compared to here and now…
Well, he may have been tricked, but he had one mila second of being touched by a god… BRAG ABOUT IT YO!
Did that goddess just make Woo age a few years in the last panel? Because those lines on his face make him look a lot older. XD
I like the way Powree shown the incorporeal nature of the deity by not drawing the bottom part of the lips through. =) Thank you for choosing her for the comic, Oliver.
Being trolled by your own God.
Smh
Being a raccoon must suck!
Oh man, Oliver/Powree, don’t scare us like that.
So many webcomics have fallen to the Syndrome, it’s not even funny 🙁 … hate to see this go the same way!
(At least you guys have Gaia to shunt your desires to create something epic into 😀 )
@ Mr_Nabby:
..Lol “Witch”
Probably the first deity I’ve ever encountered who encouraged skeptical thinking. Should I send her a donation, or would leaving the lid off my trash can be considered sufficient?
OOf, I was worried about humanit for a moment there
Well all she has to do now is say it was him to flip that prophecy on its head.
@ Abel Undercity:
Leaving the occasional loaf of bread for her children would be a thoughtful offering.
If more real-life religions had major deities like that, we’d probably have fewer problems.
@ Evil Midnight Lurker:
the roman empire existed 2000 years ago… and they ruled almost all of the known world.
so a civilazation that rivals the one human had 2000 years ago would be pretty darn strong.
As always, gods love messing with mortals.

What most people tend to forget, and don’t get me wrong, I’m taking Latin at school) is that most of the “known world” was pretty weak at that time, and hardly comparable to the nations today where a single person can literally push a button and end the world using hydrogen bombs and massive retaliation.
@ Greenwood Goat:
I’d ask an obvious question like ‘Which side is my left side?’ Thus forcing the deity who always lies to make a fool of himself, since (s)he cannot tell the truth. It isn’t often you get the chance to make an idiot of a god(dess). I’d take advantage of it.

How about Agni?
AHAHAHAAH! Woo got rick-rolled by a goddess!
@ firedome:
well, the spelling DOES fit her… LOL
very casual goddess, here. she likes to spin a tale, but at least admits that’s all she’s doing.
and she does look after her followers. certain other deities would rather their followers learn from the trials and tribulations (even when the knowledge may last Milli-seconds)
I like her (hate her name)
@ Egomane:
I can’t think of any “great civilizations” circa two thousand years ago that weren’t built upon conquest and subjugation in one way or another (be it a class of slaves or “merely” legally repressed laborer types, military extortion of neighboring “tributary states,” or some mix thereof). Also, said raccoon civilization was compared directly to a human one, and humans have a long history of being big a-holes (especially in large groups) so I’m guessing the raccoons would either be subjugating us or at least managing to appear dangerous enough to scare us away from messing with them (like Switzerland…seriously, the reason they’ve always been able to stay neutral is nobody believes it worth the trouble to attack them; even Hitler left them alone).

I’m going to suggest the Gaelic goddess Brigid.
@ Flushmaster:
Seriously, pleople, stop looking so hard into the comic about the talking racoon. I guarentee the writer isn’t thinking about such things. It’s like nearly every comment section ends up as some morality argument about the interpersonal relations of animals. Now it’s about how likely the racoons will be militaristic, and enslave use, because civilisations have been that in the past.
Seriously. Talking racoon, because funny.
I’m detecting some social commentary here…
@ Joecocoa:
… or not …

hehe reminds me of this
Reminds me a lot of Lady Palutena from Kid Icarus: Uprising, haha.

Larisa is of Russian origin, not Indian, so I was going for something from that part of the world. I just don’t know ancient Russian gods, but there was usually a lot of cultural communication among populations that close.
@ David Nuttall:
Wikipedia (YMMV) indicates Svarog, who is roughly equivalent to the Greek Hephaestus, god of celestial fire and blacksmithing.
Larisa must be worshipping Lada. just to spite haters)
I want Seeoahtlahmakaskay to become a permanent character of this comic!
she`s so much better than Ruth…
@ Kobra:
Hell, MORTALS love messing with mortals! And the true masters even return the favor to the deities… seriously, though; troll!deities are best deities. ^_^
Woo is so gullible
Of course, I’d probably become gullible too with someone that looks like that!
