I re-opened the comment section of the previous strip after deleting all improper comments and replies to them.
- Sandra: Campaign event after campaign event has been ravaged by the terrible monster Woozilla. Desperate, the survivors turn to their last hope. A woman who doesn’t shy away from using weapons that make mustard gas look like a strongly-worded letter from the UN.
- Sandra: The next day, the press sings the praises of the ruler’s heroic fight.

Oh no! A light object barely touched my tail! My one weakness!!
The look on the Empress of Northias face on the last panel, clearly shows what she is thinking.
“The sign said press. It did not say ‘free’. Now get to work!”
I’ll better not mention any scissors.
I wonder what Woo is getting for all his hard work?
Looks like the Empress hasn’t learned from her encounter with Cloud last time…
Her dad might like it if she used a weapon of mess-destruction on her raccoon.

Have to love that last panel where the press is still using a portable manual typewriter to get out the news. Shades of old time war correspondents like Ernie Pyle and the like but then this IS a war zone.

Anyway, there’s no way of knowing what Woojira’s vulnerability is. It’s enough that the Empress knows what it is, and loaded her ammunition accordingly ^_^
The best rulers also have the best…press. Sandra is clearly a master of the ancient art of Iron Fist PR.

When I was a child, I used to take plushies, dolls and plastic ducks and pretend that they were fighting each other. Now I realize what I could have played instead.

Just like the ending to the movie “The Dictator.” You can’t oust a good monarch/dictator from power so easily.
Free voting? Nothing a well placed tank, or pet monster can’t handle.
The press don’t ever tell the full truth, but just to make sure it stays like that…

Eh, why not? Way I figure it, where’s the difference between what the Empress of Northia does and the corporate press overlords (yeah, Murdoch, I’m talkin’ ’bout YOU) do? The difference is, the Empress is cute! Plus, she has a talking raccoon!
…I didn’t know Empress was an electoral position.
On a totally unrelated tangent to this strip, I just realized what I’d like to see for #500. Well, two things really-
1) Ye Thuza has decided to arrange a marriage between Cloud and Sandra
or
2) We learn the secret of Larisa’s hidden object from the treasure hunting arc.
But we’ll know for sure soon enough!

False flag terrorism. Problem-reaction-solution. Create the problem (Woozilla), get a reaction (terror) then offer the solution (benevolent dictatorship).
It worked for Hitler withe Reichstag fire, it worked for Bush with 9/11, it works for the gun control advocates with all the mass shootings going on and it shows no sign of going out of style.
There’s a mini Larisa looking doll in the first panel O.o
It just goes to show, it doesn’t matter that it’s the people who vote, whoever pulls the strings of the press is the one who decides the election.
