Website stats 2013
Sandra and Woo celebrated its 5th anniversary on 19 October 2013. That was not the only reason to celebrate for us, though, since October was also the best month for Sandra and Woo with respect to the number of visits per day (19,963) and page views per day (130,854). Gaia also saw the largest number of visits per day (9,682) so far. Click on the diagram for the full-size version of the image.
I’d like to thank everybody who spread the word about our comics! Putting a link to our webcomic website(s) on your Facebook page, Twitter stream, blog or website is an easy and extremely effective way to support us!
Congrats on making two successful comics! I love S&W! Keep up the good work!
Cool!
(though imo I hate Octobers >_< lol)
the “raccoon propaganda” seems to work 😉
great work!
I wonder when you will get the same “public recognition” like Sauer, Ruthe and Moers in Germany.
btw. Novil is it intentional there is nearly no information about you out there? (I could only find one interview, maybe I missed something.)
My goodness, looks like there has been quite the spike over the years haha! Here’s to many many more!
Looks like Gaia still has some climbing to do.
@ Mr_Nabby:
I bet Gaia will raise in ‘Lilith’s escape / rescue’ arc, that’s what most people expect while reading it 🙂
It’s interesting how the sharp increases and drops are not because of controversial comics. The comics in sharp increase months can be considered plain and the sharp drops happened on long story event (under the killer balloon and Heinz sauce week long strip).
@ AckAckAck:
it is even more interesting why there is such a difference between DE and EN.
any ideas?

Pretty simple, English is used as international language so it’s easier for people all around the world to check the comic. Also the fact that the comic spread by the word of mouth and the popularity of several strips (one of them is the cat as the analogy for software programming) invite a lot of people to visit. Seriously we have 6 billion people all over the world, we still have big enough target market out there.
Oh, and the comic is actually good also what made people stay.
Regarding DE version… I’m not sure, maybe less promotion? or lack interest?
Reminds me of Woo.

@ AckAckAck:
I think it’s just more localized in general. Like, mostly people who don’t read much English read the German version, but even German or German-American readers read the English version rather than the German, simply because links will take you to the English version.
@ Martin:
There are several reasons:
1. English has a lot more native speakers than German (we have mainly Germany, Austria and the biggest part of Switzerland)
2. English has a lot more foreign speakers than German
3. Most foreign German speakers know English as well
4. Even native German speakers (like me) stick to the English version for several reasons:
– got there from other English web comics (like Parnifia said)
– more populated comment-section
– more non-comic content
– it’s the original (Novil said so, although he is German)
(the last one seems to be my reason. At least it would explain why I stick to the German version of Life Ain’t no Pony Farm)
That given, especially 1.+2., I’d say a German web comic has no chance to get anywhere near 20K.
Just one more thing:
@Novil:
Does ‘per day’ mean ‘the average of updating days (Mon+Thu) as well as other days’
If yes, then the actual readership is probably more than 50K

Yes, the German (comic) media completely ignores me although I’m the German cartoonist with the third most website visitors after Sauer and Ruthe.

You can find links to other websites and projects I created on http://www.wyit.de/ but they are all in German.

Advertising banners for Gaia are just not as effective, no matter how good they are. It’s just harder to get people interested in a story comic than a gag comic.
AckAckAck wrote:
Spikes and drops are mainly caused by the effectiveness of the advertising. Drops also happen when a story arc is considered “boring” by some readers. However, that’s hard for me to predict in advance. Controversial strips usually increase the number of daily readers. But of course they certainly also cost a handful of readers. But that’s hard to measure.

I only advertise the English version since I’m not sure how to do that best for the German version. “Das Leben ist kein Ponyhof/Life ain’t no pony farm” is much better known in Germany because its artist is well connected in the German comic scene. Still, the comic does not have much more than twice the readership of the German version of Sandra and Woo. Therefore I concentrate on the English version. It’s the original version and I think it’s sometimes better than the German translation because of that. Several German readers prefer the English version because of this too.

wahrscheinlich weil in deinen Strips nicht oft genug der Tod -.- vorkommt 😉 (English translation and “explanation” below)
probably, because you don’t have enough strips with the Reaper in it (Note: Sauer and Ruthe have quite often jokes featuring the Reaper (Death) in their strips and there is at least one quite successful German comic out there with a similar theme/naming).
but seriously did you try to get the medias attention… I mean they are usually quite “blind”
thx, for the link, I meant “personal information” about you.
arg, I got the quoting on the last comment WRONG, please edit if possible (and delete this post), thx.
A alltime new record for amount of pageviews..
huh…
coincidental?
just when you start talking about lesbians?
maybe.
or maybe, it’s completely coincidental.
@ Novil:
Maybe because they need to see Powree in person? You need to flow her from Indonesia to German one day :p
Also I never know there’s a Sandra and Woo video game!
You goin up!
