- Larisa: Don’t worry, Zoey. There are lots of weird girls out there who don’t care about penises either.
- Zoey: Liking girls is not weird!
- Larisa: It is! It’s a flat seven on the weirdness scale!
- Zoey: Whatever. That alone doesn’t make me weird.
- Sign: A friendly reminder that you take your sandwich apart and eat each ingredient separately.
- Larisa: One of us! One of us! One of us!

“That’s not true! That’s impossible!”
Ha, Calvin and Hobbes reference!
I have strange eating habits too. I use both the knife and fork with the right hand. Meaning-
I eat with the fork in my right hand, leaving the knife at the right side of my plate. When I need to cut my food I move my fork to my left hand, pick up the knife with my right, cut the food, put down the knife, switches back the fork to my right hand again and eat.
I don’t know why I do that. What wierdness level am I at? 😉

I’d say, about a four! I have seen stranger things. 🙂
Love this strip for several reasons:
– Larisa has access to hammerspace! That sign is clearly to large for her backpak
– For some reason had this specific sign prepared for Zoey
– Noooooooooooooo!
and not to forget
– The moment, Zoey realizes that Larisa might actually be right, is perfectly captured 🙂
Oh, actually never mind. I just read up on my use of eating utensils, and apparently I use the the American Style or the Zig-Zag method. Since I have only seen myself eat this way I thought it was odd, but it’s quite common, apperently. And I thought I was the only one…
I wonder where Larisa keep getting the signs from? LOL!
Nice…..
Now we eagerly await the Return Of Larissa’ secret.
I am really beginning to wonder where this is going.
@ Mr_Nabby:
Actually, I tend to use the fork in my right hand, too. Mostly if I don’t need the knive, though. I’m not American, either 😉
Speaking of the comic, I love how Larissa and Zoey seem to be getting along all of a sudden 🙂
Mh, I don’t get the last two panels.. what’s my Weirdness now??
I’m sure Freud would have had something to say on the implications of opening sandwiches and consuming them like that. Especially with regard to lesbianism…
BTW, here is the origin of the “one of us” meme: this clip from the MGM film Freaks (1932, dir. Todd Browning).
@ Mr_Nabby:
It’s over 9000!!!
Is the comment on the sign supposed to be taken literally or is it more of a figure of speech?
Sorry, but what is the illustration in Larissa’s thought bubble ? I have no idea !
@ Unknown-person:
No sir, I think not. I now realise that there exist other alteratives to eat than the European-style. I no longer have to feel slightly embarrassed about the way I prefer to use my eating utensils.
I’m a Zig-Zag and I’m proud!
Wait a sec…so Zoe’s thought of the scene where Luke Skywalker screams ‘Noooooooo!’.
That means, she’s seen Star Wars. And enjoyed it enough to remember scenes from it…
That means….SHE’S A GEEK!!!
One of us! One of us! One of us! *joins in with Larisa*
Am I only one who is wondering if Larissa carries that sign with her everywhere, just in case she might ever need it? That’s dedication.
I have noticed this in woman, actually. Instead of just biting the thing, they feel the need to tear off little bits of their food and eat it that way. It’s really quite a peculiar practice.
@ Mr_Nabby:
Good enough
Luke wrote:
In women…?
I do this all the time. Especially towards the end of a giant burger. Speaking of which, am I the only one who finds that the bread with all the juices soaked in, even without the meat inside, is really, really tasty?
@ Luke:
I actually never tore food into small bits before until I saw a guy who was a friend of mine do it first. I used to do it with muffins. I don’t really do it now though except with sandwiches when I am not in the mood for the rest of it, but I know that I should eat it anyway.
And I will only separate it into parts if I dislike a part or wish to ensure a part is how I like it (I like the skin, slimy bits and bones removed from chicken before it goes in my sandwich but that does not always happen when my mum makes it). XD
Took me quite som time to understand that last panel ^^
cheers 🙂
But but… I do that too! I eat the worst first, save the best (teh egg yolk) for last, spin my sandwich around as I eat so I end up eating it from the outside in, and yeah 😀
How long has she had that sign in there?
alright i just started reading this comic (the last one was my first) and…. i dont think… this is the best way to introduce me to this… comic…
@ Ivresse:
Geeks aren’t the only people who have seen Star Wars <_<
@ Mr_Nabby:
I do that too!
Gooble goble gooble goble
One of us! One of us!
Gooble Goble gooble goble
One of us! One of us!
And thus, Zoey is now part of the Scooby gang. It will be hilarious if Zoey is actually the one who find out that Woo can talk (after Sandra).
@ Mr_Nabby:
This is just an indication that you are strongly right-handed. You keep the instrument that you need more precision with in your dominant hand. When you are cutting something, then it is the knife that will be in the right hand and the fork in your left hand will not be moving. When it is time to transfer the food to your mouth, you move the fork to the right hand in order to accurately move the move the food and hit your mouth. As an experiment, try lifting the food to your mouth with your left hand and watch what happens.
I am left-handed. My fork tends to stay in my left hand and the knife in my right, but when I am preparing food, the various kitchen knives will be in my left hand as I hold the food in my right.
This time…I couldn’t understand….
uuhh.. I think the reference flew over my head….. whatever sdandwiches are suppose to mean here, anyway :/
@ oxayotl:
It is a scene from Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes back where Luke yells NO! really loudly.

would be funny if Zoey knows Woo’s secret before Larisa, Cloud or any other human apart Sandra… talking about Scooby and secrets, is she trying to make Zoey forget about her deal? spill the beans!
@ oxayotl:
It’s Luke in the Star Wars film saying “Noooooooooo!!!!”
I say again, A NEW ADDITION TO THE MAIN CAST??
Not sure if I like Larisa’s implication that liking girls is weird… I thought she’d be more open than that? She could be taking all this better, but I guess it’s more realistic that not everyone’s really accepting.
@ Aaron:
Well, lesbians make up about one twentieth of the world’s population, not counting bisexual women, so that could be considered weird.
NecroRyu wrote:
Well you know Larissa, she’s the mistress of decoy and diversion (and fire of course). Even though she still need to hone those skills more.
Aaron wrote:
Look, we’re talking about junior high school girls here. They don’t know much about the world yet. Remember when Larissa took out a box labeled “sex toys” under her bed? turn out that most of the toys are just barbie dolls where she pretend that her and Cloud are married couple. So for her “sex” still equal marriage.
Okay yes, that is weird.
@ Mr_Nabby:
“You are unique! …just like everyone else.” 😉
AckAckAck wrote:
lol also mistress of fitting stuff in her backpack, appearing a sign like Ranma’s dad in panda form,,, still I don’t mind if this lasts longer, it’s one of my favorite S&W arcs and the first I comment about ^.^
Okay that is a little strange…
I mean what’s the point of calling it a sandwich if you don’t eat it like one?
That’s not too weird. I have many food sensitivities, so eating things separately soothes my mind. Then again, I’m probably an 8 on Larisa’s scale for many things, like not liking either guys or girls, eating salad fixings separate, and not constantly setting things on fire…though I do like fire.
I’m not sure what in this comic is referencing Calvin and Hobbes. Could someone enlighten me? 🙂
@ Neospector:
Sorry mate, it’s just I only really catch women doing this, I’m sure men do it too, though 🙂
@ supposed nerd: Calin and hobbes reference – So Zoey is in fact a grown-up Susie? 🙂
She’s been waiting to use that sign for three years.

Geek knowledge 101. 😛
@ Matthew Wells:
Oh less than that – the population estimates for homosexuality as a whole is between 3-5%, so divide that by half to account for the males and you’re looking at a fiftieth.
