😀 is that el-ahrairah?!
Dem Chips
And when the carnivores in that room don’t want peanuts…they shall start with them wabbits first!
I spy with my little eye Coyote from Gunnerkrigg Court!
That coyote, he is familiar. 🙂
Gunnerkrigg Court is awesomeness 🙂
If i look at them i think 50% want she makes it and the other wants she get eaten.
Wait I though she was climbing a rock not a tree!

dose that bunny remind you of any one?
heres a hint:
edna and _____
Do I see Anubis there?
Oooh. That’s coyote from Gunnerkrieg Court! Isn’t it?
Umbreon? Is that you?
Of course, the gods’ «television» is actually a supernatural device that, when looked at, allows the godly viewer to feel like he/she is actually where the event is taking place: smell smells, have 360-degree vision, etc.; without actually being there. 😀
@ Landbark:
I think it’s pretty fair to say that you seem to have a rather dark sense of humour.
Surprised Hraesvelgr didn’t bring a d20.
Butterfly in the sky…
She can go twice as high…
Take a look
Bet she wishes she was reading a book..
I wonder if we’ll see a rainbow…
NO IDEA why that popped into my head.

And Coyote just wants entertainment; he’s happy because nature wins either way.
On the couch, from left to right, it’s Reynard (also featured in Gunnerkrigg Court, but otherwise prominent in French literature), Ratatoskr (the squirrel who bears messages up and down Yggdrasil–the world tree–between the serpent Nithhoegr in its roots and the eagle Hraesvelgr in its branches), an unidentified eagle (probably Hraesvelgr based on the similarity of his mystic markings to those of Ratatoskr), Isengrim (also in Gunnerkrigg Court as Ysengrin, and foil to Reynard), and El-Ahrairah (the “Prince of a Thousand Enemies” from Watership Down). Seeoahtlahmakaskay, of course, is walking through the door, and Coyote (the Trickster of many Native American tales, and also featured in Gunnerkrigg Court) is reclining in front of the couch.
@ Switch Master:
You need to go back to the beginning of the arc where Woo explains the climb.
@ Landbark: Not terribly familiar with myths, legends, and great literature? Those are some pretty famous animals.
Every time I look at the last panel, my attention’s always directed towards the terrified-looking squirrel who’s surrounded by
potential predatorsgood friends. :3Hey!! There’s my favorite character of all time, the magnificent lord Coyote. I nearly cried of happiness upon seeing this. Every webcomic needs more Coyote.
And, before I noticed the tags, I guessed right about all of the gods except El-arhraira. (I thought he was Chang’e). I also laughed upon noticing how Ratoskaor is placed between two carnivores, and looks so much like Sid in his shivering.
Still not sure who the Eagle is though.
This looks like the Superbowl of the animal pantheon. Do they have good commercials too?
Going by the tags, the lastr god is Television, the God of America.
@ Fabhar:
It’s that guy.
But… Reynard isn’t a god. He’s just a dude.
@ Xezlec:
And by “dude”, I mean “fox dude”, obviously.
@ Xezlec:
Oh, OK, just learned that he’s a supernatural charachter in Gunnerkrigg Court. That makes some sense. Dang man, you make a lot of references to that comic. They ought to be paying you for all the advertisement. Or at least referencing you copiously in return.
Hmmm… it looks like an animal trickster god celebration, though if it is I’m not sure how messenger squirrel and the wind-blower eagle fit into this sporting eventing.
*eagle swoops in and flies away with her*
Eagle Deity : GO TEAM EAGLE!
@ Switch Master:
The only way up the rock is by jumping from the tree and grabbing a handhold the size of two fingers.
I am pleased to see coyote and renard here. :3
@ Pikadusk:
And if they’re talking thieves/tricksters, why no Raven/Crow?
@ Xezlec:
Quite a few new Gunnerkrigg fans were born when Sir Eglamore sparred with Cloud. I think both comics have benefitted from the crossover.
I think it’s pretty cool to see Reynard and Isengrim portrayed differently than they are in Gunnerkrigg– while Coyote is *exactly* as he is portrayed in Gunnerkrigg Court. Adds a bit of variety, no?
Hmmm… So the god of the eagles is there. Would that mean he was rooting for Butterfly to climb successfully or would he want her to fail and get eaten by one of his kind?
I can’t help but wonder how good the reception would be on that TV.
@ Mortar: Speaking of which. This sure is one big arc (yes I know its suppose to be) it took about 10 to 11 stories before she even starts climbing. And I am sure the climb would be about 14 different strips. Then there’s the typical plot twist Novil likes to throw in then the plot twist is done and it will be about 10 more comics after that. So I think that this story arc won’t be done until late April and early may.
That Anubis kinda looks like a cat I’ve seen in some Anime.
@ Tunaro:
It should get fine reception.
*sunglasses*
They’ve got rabbit ears.
Fox on the left looks liek a cross between the Dizney animated Robin Hood and Sly Cooper.
Is the eagle depicted actually Lord Thunderbird from the native American mythos? That’s the only one I am familiar with who has eagles in his following. He was a giant eagle with lightning markings all over his body.
That animal lying on the carpet is from gunnerkriggcourt.com, right?
@ bitflipper:
Thanks for the help, I don’t follow Gunnerkrig Court (yet) so I only recognize half of them.
OMG. I literally watched Watership Down just like 3 hours ago.
El-ahrairah is a perfect fit!
Many kudos for putting him in here!
Dat Jackal god. Seriously though, a wolf god, a fox god, and a jackal god? What’s with the jackal? Where’s the cat god? And I like how you put the squirrel in the fox’s lap or whatever, as a sort of homage to those two characters who’s names I actually forgot (fox was Shadow, I believe?), but at the same time, he’s freaked out because he’s in the lap of his natural predator, despite them being gods and thus that shouldn’t be an issue. XD
@ Switch Master:
She climbs the tree in order to leap off of it and twist in the air to grab onto the rock.
They covered this at the beginning of this arc
Dude…that’s a cool fox…
“But first they must catch you, Prince with a thousand enemies!”
They all seem fairly relaxed right now. 🙂
Brilliant easter egg, this convention of animal spirits. Brought a huge smile to my face.
@ ieatapples:
Well, if you were Ratatoskr (the squirrel), wouldn’t you be a bit nervous in a room full of predators?
Like you, that’s what caught my eye first, followed by El-ahrairah.
@ Kaigakoi:
But first they must catch him! 😉
