- Seeoahtlahmakaskay: The bacchanal is that way.
- Butterfly: I’m now five years old. If I want to reach the summit of K2 while I’m fit, I mustn’t lose any time.
- Seeoahtlahmakaskay: But just think of all the kind and handsome males who’d like nothing better than to make you happy!
- Butterfly: I’m sorry.
- Butterfly: But this is the life I’ve chosen.

NOOOO! Nononononono…..
Think of your possible child, Butterfly! They could climb the mountain! Make you proud as a mother!
Lolz yes I know that was stupid but I had to get it out there. But for real, is this leading into a sub-story arc with Butterfly? I want me some Cloud, Novil. And Ben and Theo. And to a lesser extent larisa.
And just like how
Life should be, everybody has choices and a way of life, nobody has to follow the same
Checklist to make ones life complete …or even the correct way to live. GOOD LUCK BUTTERFLY!
@ MawileCeyvis:
Haha! XD ah, naw…I can relate! See that’s the beauty of being human =P mistakes are Gonna HAPPEN! No doubt!
Novil, sorry for the spam.
So, does this mean we have an asexual raccoon character?
Hehe, so apparently she knows Reynard. 😉
Butterfly, at 5, has beaten the odds: the lifespan of a raccoon in the wild is 2-3 years. Given her abilities, she might have a whole decade to keep going. As cool as her climbing skill is, judging from her expression, I wonder if she truly doesn’t want to find a mate. Oh well, rock on Butterfly!
Not sure if I am happy or sad about this. But Butterfly does certainly look mad in the last panel…at S’s meddling in her life. On the other hand, devoting one’s life to one thing can be bad. But it IS her choice.
I have a feeling Butterfly is about to bump into someone that turns out to be her perfect mate while the goddess smirks in the background. We know she set up Butterfly’s parents so how do we know she hasn’t planned for Butterfly’s kits to be the ones to ascend K2.
She’s just lucky the Raccoon deity is apparently nice and gentle. A more wrathful god could arrange for Butterfly’s leg to break before she leaves that very day, and heal badly, thus ending her climbing aspirations.
Or, you know… lightning bolt.
Such is life I suppose. In the end we prosper or are damned by our own choices.
On a related note.
Damn, those are some good cameramen.
I don’t know. Maybe it’s only right she gets to decide wether she wants a family or not.
Bacchanal… mmm… VIR do not join such things?
Oh no, If she dies… I do not like where this is going.
Well, what a umm… twist, kinda leaves one sad a little for Seeoahtlahmakaskay she clearly wants so much more for Butterfly.
than just climbing one difficult route after another all the time.
@ SmartAlec105:
I agree… this can’t be it for butterfly.
In case you were wondering the end of panel one,
–walk into Mordor
First off what the fudge? She’s only five???????
Secondly theirs more to life than just open legs and enhancement pills
And Careless whisper. 😉
@ Edster:
If she dies she’ll go to queen jaydes and probably make it to the overthere and be known as Butterbi
Sorry I’ve been playing a lot of Super Paper Mario lately. I forgot I wasn’t in flipside.
I must tread the comment section carefully…..
respectable
@ DBJake:
Yes, but what each individual values is different from each other. You might see it as just climbing one thing after another but to Butterfly, climbing is her life. She may get stressed sometimes, but climbing is what she loves to do and what she lives for.
Family? Yeah, that’d be nice, but the moment she settles down, she won’t be able to go on climbs like this any more because she’ll have kits to raise. She’d be giving up her passion in life for something she never considered before and to someone who has only lived for that passion, that seems ridiculous.
@ Switch Master:
Indeed there is also this
So, how exactly is she going to get there?
Darnit epic fail I meant to link this youtube vid :
You know you have a hot body when a GODDESS is telling you to basically go and have sex already.

Seems to me that links are not allowed in the comments section, at least not youtube ones. 😛
Hmmm….”Reynard?” Shout out to “Gunnerkrigg Court?”
wait, butterfly is female?
Mad respect for Butterfly!
Hmm, I’m kind of on Butterfly’s side, though I suspect our writer isn’t. Since I’m asexual, I’m biased I suppose. I guess I “just wouldn’t understand”.
Were these the same creepy fanbase stalking her, the slave driver management, or the goons acting as buffers? Only male she’s shown having a normal interaction with was Woo.
@ Sam:
Hmm… you have a point, this just seems… anti-climatic though, that’s all.
@ MawileCeyvis:
Seriously. Novil’s been drawing WAY too many raccoons. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cloud or Sandra look a little raccoon-like after this arc is over.
@ Chelsea:
I suspect that her perfect mate will share her interests. Who knows, perhaps on her trip at some point she will find that other raccoon that shared her passions?
It’s Butterfly’s right to decide whether or not she wants a family. However, “But this is the life I’ve chosen” will most likely mean “But this is the death I’ve chosen.” Seeoahtlahmakaskay does have a reason to be unhappy.
“Butterfly, I’m just………..well………..hoping you won’t die at K2. Good luck.”
What if when she goes to climb the mountain, there is another Raccoon there that she falls for that has the same goal as she does? :O
Oh, bacchanal, butterfly, blahblahblah, whatever!
*What did she say to Reynard?*
@ The Emporer of Southia:
Hope it’s not that leather belt song. Just give me the name and I’ll try to find it.
Xezlec wrote:
Oh I’m on her side too and would be a bit annoyed if this ends with a “making a family is the only correct choice for everyone” message. Though climbing the K-2 might be a tad unrealistic without the kind of gear humans would use for it. The thin air alone would probably be a bit deadly.
@ GoogerGeiger:
Perhaps, except it’s Powree who’s been doing the drawing and she has Gaia to keep her human features up to par. 😉
HeavyP wrote:
No. ReYnard is from other mythology while Renard is from Gunnerkrigg (and based on the former).
@ Xezlec:
I’ve a theory as to why Butterfly might be going from climb to climb, risking her life and the like and refusing to mate…
Has it occurred to anybody in the comments thus far that perhaps Butterfly -can’t- have kits? Or has before and some terrible thing happened?
@ Switch Master: raccoons don’t live that long..
Can I just say I love how all the raccoons are designed differently from each other? How its made a point to make them unique indivisuals?
@ DBJake:
Family isn’t f@ DBJake:
Becoming a wife and mother isn’t for every woman, and denigrating her aspirations as “just climbing one difficult route after another all the time” is really insulting.
If this turns out to be another “choose family, not career” message about a female character, I’m going to be really pissed. I really hope we don’t get a “Seeo was right all along”, because it would be outright offensive.
@ RWB:
Nonsense.
I’m all for taking the old-fashioned “family above all else” schtick out behind the shed for a nice cranial massage courtesy of the nearest shotgun. Blood relationships are ridiculously overrated. However, please consider what you’ve just said.
You’ve effectively stated that Butterfly needs to follow a certain path here or risk falling in line with established gender roles. What’s wrong with these gender roles, exactly? Just like not having a family may be Butterfly’s life path, having one may be as well. There should be no problem with her changing her mind at any point. If she discovers that she really does want a family and was just too excited by her own prospects to notice, that’s fine. If she sticks to her guns and remains solo, that’s fine as well.
Toss the stereotyped roles out the window and let her make her own decisions. Hers to make, not yours to judge.
