I sense Seeoahtlahmakaskay is doing this <_<
Someone is going to get verrrrry lucky tonight.
*Start playing Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” song*
If you’ve reached the top, what remains is to teach others how to reach the top as well. I like that philosophy.
The whole Butterfly story arc has been cute but are ever getting back to the Larissa arc any time soon?
Fame falls find footing for fortold futures.
Well…I’m all up for a climbing dojo! ……not sure if dojo is not the right word…but close enough!
I love the leafy crash pad! I also love the belly-flop. 🙂
Aww, raccoons in love. It looks like Butterfly’s next project will be giving Flint some private lessons. =)
I feel like people are more likely to have some “Racoonsonas” now becouse of these series with Seeothlahmaskaskay woo and all these racoon characters, i love these arcs
AW~! I liked his reaction when realizing that Butterfly gave him a tip. Its so cute XD
Wait, was this the same guy who prompted Seeoh to make it mating season?
…. Niiiiiiiice.
@ Ana:
As someone who is about 90% asexual… I really don’t have that big of a problem with this. Especially given the fact that these are wild animals who are now in heat.
Context is everything.
Am I the only one uncomfortable with the idea that S basically said “that’s nice you’ve done your thing, now settle down and be a mother”? it’s not about sexuality vs. asexuality but that Butterfly is a being with dreams and ambitions that go beyond S’s cycle-of-life ambitions. I used to like S but she’s coming over pretty oppressive to me in these few episodes. The “now it’s mating season” line just gives me a vibe of mind-control and abuse.
Maybe it’ll end with butterfly finding out that climbing makes her happier than being a mother ever would, and learns Seeoahtlahmakaskay a lesson? XD
The way I see it, Seeoahtlahmakaskay’s domain is the well being of the raccoon species, and thinking in the long term, Butterfly becoming a mother is better for the species, even if it does cost her dream.
I was rather expecting a strip like this though, where hints of an adventure shared is an adventure doubled, and the right relationship will encourage and enable your dream rather than bury it.

The Larissa arc? Which one? If you mean the one with Zoey as well, I don’t think Novil will get back to it very soon. Most likely there will be more arcs in-between before we get a follow up on that one. If you mean Larissa’s secret, IIRC Novil hasn’t even figured out a good way to handle it.
@ Hituro:
Frankly your comment is more disturbing to me than anything S has done 😛 All she did was make them horny. It’s only ‘mind control’ and ‘abuse’ if the beings are incapable of controlling their desire for sex.
Well, even if she doesn’t have children, she can still teach her techniques to others.
Welp Butterfly, you’ve mastered the climb, now your the master to teach.
Any climber knows that it’s really important to have a good climbing partner!
well K2 isn’t going anywhere. Besides she needs a partner to help her stea…err aquire the oxygen and cold weather gear.
Who’s that Raccon? Da da daa! Kudos if you get the pun. Also that is indeed my question who is that?

Or Butterfly finds a new adventure in her life, in the form of motherhood. Maybe her god know something after all. That reminds me of a saying that can apply here: Unix is like sex. Until you have had it, you just wonder what all the fuss is about. After you have had it, you wonder how you lived without it. Motherhood may work that way for Butterfly as well.
@ Prezombie:
Totally agree, never quite thought of it like that… Wish more people could look at it like that.
“Shift your weight to the left foot young Padawan”
“”Thanks for the- whaaaaa…! Obiwan Kenobi, what are you doing in a strip about raccoons?”
I find it rather amusing how everyone seems to jump to the conclusion that this strip will lead to Butterfly and Flint mating. It would be rather odd for anythng stemming from the previous comic to lead that way, unless Seeoahtlahmakaskay is actually mind-controlling Butterfly, which seems even more unlikely.
It seems more likely to me that Butterfly is just going to take on an apprentice. Someone has to be the next generation’s greatest climber. The title could also represent the idea of “shifting” the “weight” of Butterfly’s skill onto another raccoon. Something like passing the torch, but without the settling down afterwards.
Of course, I could be wrong, but it doesn’t look that way to me…
Yanno, it *is* possible to have kits, then go attack K2 when they’re weaned, don’t discount a small delay…
But really now, a pile of leaves works for bouldering, and having an Eagle catch you is tricky show-coon-ship – but someone’s got to introduce harnesses and ropes for the times they’re too high and/or below the tree line.
(Eagles and tree trunks, not a good combination… {Splat!} And they probably have Service Ceiling problems over 18,000 feet too.)
@ Bruce Bergman:
Plus, as far as I know, there ARE no eagles in the Himalayas. So I’ll see your harness and rope and raise you a raccoon-sized parachute–for those multi-story falls above 18,000 feet. Don’t ask where they’d even get them; just say they’re made from multiple tableclothes sewn together and a truckload of string.
@ AckAckAck:
No careless whisper saxophone solo would be more appropriate.
Sax Solo FTW
Some of the expeditions to the Himalayans actually considered parachutes. Exeriance soon showed them to be impractical.
Despite their height, the Himalayans are ‘old’ mountains, geologically. The vast percentage of their slopes are near walking angle and most of the cliffs are ‘short fall’.
This means that someone losing their footing would fall down a slope (not in clear air) until they get to a cliff of less-than-ideal height for the use of a parachute.
Then, crunch… oxygen deprived, very likely severely injured, and separated from any chance of rescue.
A parachute was just extra weight of little use and a lot of encumbrance.
@ Switch Master:
Actually, I heard a famous snippet of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Overture (just after the 14 minute mark of most performances for those who will youtube it) 🙂

Teaching is really hard though! You have to be able to think like the other person. Every time I think I’ve found the perfect way to explain something, it turns out not to be helpful at all.
A pivotal set of panels, I would say… at least for Butterfly and friend.
*loud whisper* Butterfly!!! You forgot the grapes and nuts, THE GRAPES AND NUTSSss!!! *scoots a little bowl forward*
@ Miguel:
I sure hope so.
@ HalfTangible:
He didn’t “prompt” anything. He merely noted that it wasn’t mating season.
@ TehTimmah:
I seeoahtlahmakaskay what ya did there. 😉
Two chips off the old block eh?
Novice performing under the eyes of The Master;
perfect recipe for disaster! 🙂
No no NO! *sigh* Oh well. Maybe they’ll continue climbing together.

Well the previous strip ended with a sad expression on her face as she declared that she’s sticking to her choice. Almost as if she regrets it, but feels like she can’t quit. Otherwise, why not give a proud smile of reaffirming her choice?
i miss sandra……
@ Hituro:
You aren’t the only one. I was happy when Butterfly told Seeo that she wanted to put her ambitions and dreams first, but now it seems to be taking the usual trajectory of story arcs featuring ambitious women (yes, a raccoon, but an anthropomorphized raccoon).
There’s no way she can climb K2 by herself. If she wants to ascend it, she’s going to need a time, like a family team.
@ Crystalgate:
Well, not just Larissa’s arc but the other characters. As cute as they are, I’ve become somewhat bored with the raccoon arc..
@ Mortar:
Which immediately led to S making it mating season. Isn’t that what prompting means?
We have already seen Butterfly’s arms are thickened to far beyond normal raccoon size by her climbing hobby. Now, we meet another raccoon with arms thickened in the same way.
Seems he and she could have a pretty good conversation about climbing… wouldn’t you say?
Now, if he just ‘happens’ to mention how he managed to get up a climb by remembering her ‘reverse paw bridge’…
@ Kedge:
Sorry I really don’t know what that is. But it was from Pokemon. 😉
I’ll YouTube it.
@ HalfTangible:
Its not prompting because he didn’t say ” Make it mating season”… he simply pointed out that it wasn’t.
Well sometimes good luck doesn’t always happen when going up to the top. And sometimes it happen when going down to the ground.
