[0569] About Art

- Sandra: Art, Woo, shows us the world through the eyes of the artist.
- Sandra: With his artwork, the artist grants us an intimate insight into his view on the world. Quite often, however, his view vastly differs from our own. To overcome this conflict, we are forced to call into question our own perception of the supposedly objective reality.
- Woo: The Big Animal Coloring Book – Ages 3 to 6.
- Sandra: Someday, I’ll be able to color within the lines!
Welcome back, Sandra. (Poor Sandra)
Wait, THAT’S what we were supposed to do? All this time I was wondering who’d drawn black and white pictures all over my paper before I had a chance to!
Wow, seeing these two again…feels like…i was just shot in the butt with a nuclear bomb of “EEEEE! ITS THEM AGAIN AAAAH” erm….yea! XD Dont worry sandra! its a start!
Question is can Woo color inside the lines? 😉 Dont judge a book by its cover, Woo.
Lol, that is all.
*Larisa walks in*
Someday.XD
@ Wolfking_Warrior:
“Color *within* the lines? Is that what you’re supposed to do?”
Some artists, however, merely call into question their level of ability, or whether their conceptual reach exceeds their practical grasp…
Or you know…judge it by its age limit.@ Syrup:
Woo can read O_O
I thought raccoon eyes are not good enough to see letters…
Ah, cheer up. I have to use a digital program to colour my art.
@ Ajedi32:
“Cause I always BURN within the lines”
Wat? Do my eyes deceive me? Is that- it is it’s Sandra!!!!!! YaY
Also…Coloring in coloring books is so overrated. If you want some real fun try drawing Mustaches and Devil horns on the pictures. It’s way more entertaining.
@ ekimmak:
Ah yes good ol Microsoft Paint is what I use. Ah yes and the sound of me swearing when I try to fill in a shape and the whole damn screen gets filled. Good times indeed.

*That’s* the unrealistic part to you? Not that he can talk, or even process language at all with a brain the size of a walnut?
So Sandra likes art? It appears that’s about as far is it goes lol.
Sometimes I wish I was that good! 🙂
Something tells me this new arc starter was prompted by all the commenters who complained that the Butterfly arc was too sexist… Perhaps the real purpose of the previous arc, was to make people question their supposed realities or something like that.
But what if I just want to enjoy the artwork?
this is so calvin and hobbes, it could’ve been written by bill watterson himself.
DBJake wrote:
Well I’d say at the very least, the end of “The Life She Has Chosen” does give that implication. Otherwise, how do you explain the sad look of Butterfly’s face?
@ Xezlec:
Suspension of disbelief, man.

Welcome Back Sandra!
Hope we see Larissa and Cloud soon.
I never color in the lines and I am damn proud of that, damn it.
INSIDE the lines to start, for mastery of color and technique.
Then, OUTSIDE the lines, to develop elements of style and shading.
Then, on BLANK Paper, to develop your own themes and style.
It takes all three!
you can do what I did to learn… put one finger on the line and then when you colour, you will hit your finger rather than passing the line. Trace out the drawing too to complete the look
Oh, yeah! There was a SANDRA in this comic, wasn’t there?!
Xezlec wrote:
Do not underestimate them. Raccoons are smart little predators, capable of solving puzzles and opening locks will defeat most other North American animals.
I was just surprised that Woo was literate. Sure he can talk, but literacy is a different skill set. We are still trying to teach it to computers. How many times does OCR fail unless things are presented exactly right?
Sandra, if your hands are spasming that badly, you might want to see a doctor…or a nurse… XD
Whoa, Sandy, your not a A+ student then XD you must get a few Fs in art
Who’s that blonde girl? I thought this was a raccoon only webcomic? What’s going on?!
Nice Sandra. When you can’t color in art question everyone elses preception of art! Nice reality check Woo! Lol. 😉
Don’t worry about colouring inside the lines. Picasso never did. Then again he never got the hang of doing faces either.
Xezlec wrote:
And the way that I interpret this comment that seems different from everyone else:
Trimutius, of all the other obviously not realistic stuff that Woo can do, why are you surprised that he can read? 🙂
Seems like Sandra’s view of the world needs…glasses.
and just think someday you might be able to draw 58612 raccoons!
The argument can still be made that some of the great artists were great because they never did color within the lines.
Sounds like the range of my artistic talent also.
It only took a month or two……
Who’s this girl? I thought this webcomic was all about raccoons.
look at it this way, Sandra; part of you refuses to be limited in some way. That’s not bad, that just means your will can’t be contained 🙂 (it IS entertaining to see this though XD )
Sandra, REAL artist first color, then draw the lines. With this people think that they can color in lines. This alone makes them famous. Simple!
@ lantheria:
I don’t see Calvin wanting to draw within the lines. The urge is just not there.
‘Supposedly objective reality’, very Pirsig. Let’s start off with the implicated instruction to color in the picture within the boundaries that some other person, with no formal authority over us, has placed upon us. We are beset with rules, and we comply without question. But who set the rules, and why, and why do we not question their selfproclaimed status or objectionable methods? Are we but sheep that must always safely graze? Rise up! Be proud! Draw outside the lines! Throw off the sheckles of tyrannic children’s books artists! Why can’t I type outside this box? W@#fherfhlui58&*dh230u GFSKL?
Reality is what you make of it, and what you make yourself is always so much more gratifying. Oh, hold on, the green jetdriven marshmallow is whapping to my third eye… brb.

You aren’t the one depicting how your current/past monarch/president/prime minister

you? 😉
Or perhaps making them look like someone else…

@ Syrup:
Remember the 500th strip? And Woo didn’t even have lines to color in!
Hey leonardo de vinci was both. So is larissa if you think about it. Wait how many science people are good at art and vice versea since thinking about it it is a high percentage from my perspective.@ Landbark:
Acceptance: When Sandra realize she’s better with number crunch and theories than making art.
Leave the artsy stuff for Larissa, Sandra!
