Interview with our reader Deko

Here is a new interview about Sandra and Woo with one of the Sandra and Woo fans that received a poster package, our reader

Deko

Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?

> Well, first of all I’m sorry about my English. I’m not very good, but I’ll try my best here. People call me “Deco” with “C” in real life and I really don’t know why. I like to use “Deko”. I’m a middle-aged man working for a software company. I’m trying to learn JAVA for now, and on my free time I try to make some drawings. It’s been two years since I started to draw something, I’m not very good at it. I also like to watch some Japanese animations and TV shows like Dr. Who. I don’t think telling the country where I live is necessary here.

When you read Sandra and Woo for the first time, what grabbed your attention the most?

> The art style, I believe. I was reading another comic when I saw a Sandra and Woo advertising. I loved Sandra’s face with the big cute eyes. That was the Strip No. 2.

Is the thing you mentioned above still your favorite part of the comic, or do you like something else the most now?

> Yes, it is.

Who is your favorite character and why?

> David AND Ye Thuza. Although they are adults, I like to think that it’s as if they did not lose their youth. I mean I grew up with the idea that I would never change for some things but with so many experiences in life, it’s hard NOT to change. In the end we live in a world that you have to adapt and change to some things to “keep going”. You may even change and you don’t notice. I like how they act.

Do you have a favorite story arc and/or a favorite single strip?

> The abandoned factory arc. I still don’t know who was the one in the shadow in the end… maybe I don’t remember right now or I missed a strip?

You have read Sandra and Woo for many years now. Do you think the comic has changed in any way since the beginning?

> Hmmm, the art style? It’s something I’m sure changed. I still miss Sandra’s cute big eyes.

Sandra and Woo is sometimes criticized for lacking focus. Is there an aspect of the comic that you’d rather get rid of?

> I don’t think it lacks focus. Sandra and Woo has its way, it’s not like Gaia that has a more complex story (and sometimes, at Gaia some characters surprise me). Let’s just say I like the “simple way” of Sandra and Woo. It’s a webcomic that sometimes can make me laugh with simple jokes.

Is there a topic you’d like to see getting addressed in a longer story arc?

> Adventures In another country, maybe? I don’t know. This was hard to think about.

What are your wishes for the future of Sandra and Woo?

> You are on the right track, keep going.

Is there any other webcomic which you’d like to recommend to our readers?

> Besides Sandra and Woo and Gaia, there are other webcomics that I like to read, maybe someone has the same taste: Fanfyria: It is a good webcomic, Denny has a cute art style. Olympus Overdrive: The artist is called Oskar or Milky, I’m surprised how his art style can change. Next Town Over: Updated every Saturday I believe, a very nice web comic.

Do you have anything else do say? Here’s room for it:

> Hmmm. “That’s all folks”? Again, sorry about the English grammar. People of my country have a bad English and don’t care about learning it, not all of us are.
