[0591] Michelle, The Good Christian?
└ posted on Thursday, 19 June 2014, by Novil
- Michelle: Mrs. Hill? This is Michelle, from Landon’s class. … No, it’s not about homework.
- Zoey: Michelle, please…
- Michelle: Mrs. Hill, as a good Christian I must ask you a question: Do you want your son to become gay?
- Michelle: Mrs. Hill, we were all a hundred percent sure that Landon was as gay as a handbag full of rainbows. But Larisa somehow cured him of that.
- Michelle: But now that Landon is single again because of you, hunky Jeff Robertson from grade 9 will be all over him again!
- Michelle: Wouldn’t you find that beyond disgusting?? And you won’t be able to supervise Landon all the time!
- Harriet: Dear God!
- Michelle: That’s something you should think about, Mrs. Hill.
- Michelle: Fire with fire.
- Zoey: I don’t know if God is proud of you, but I am.
For anyone thinking Michelle is being anti-gay, remember two things.
1) It’s a joke, lighten up geez.
2) She wasn’t being anti-gay so much as playing upon the fears of a woman who is zealous in her ‘faith’, whether that follows actual Christian teachings or not.
Suffice it to say I’m actually a bit impressed with Michelle’s character here lol.
“fire with fire” nice lol 😀
Michelle, God bless you. 😀
By the way, are they on a relationship? Or just friends?

I’d rather not. See, I wouldn’t call myself a pacifist, I’m not even close, but I kinda can’t stand murder. So I’d like to stay in my current position, a position where there is little chance of ever being ordered to murder anyone, and I don’t have to interact with murderers on a regular basis. Because those things kinda grind my gears. And hell, if somebody ordered me to commit murder, or if somebody I knew did commit murder, I’m pretty likely to lose my temper. And that could be dangerous, especially if I’m holding a rifle at the time and I know that a whole lot less people will die if I just shoot this one asshole enough times. So yeah, I’d rather not.
I will believe it when I see it.
And I’ll believe THAT when women are allowed in combat roles, sexual harassment isn’t more common in the military than literally anywhere else, and it doesn’t stand in second place to prisons (if, admittedly, a long ass way behind prisons) in rape incidents per capita.
Sir, you’re missing the point. Most of basic isn’t about teaching you anything but how to do what they say, when they say it, without question, criticism or individual thinking. Does it work? No. But that’s still what they’re trying to do. If they left that part out, communicating all the skills would take less than half as long. But they can’t leave that part out, because they when they ordered a squad of soldiers to, say, shoot a civilian they’d ask “Why?”, and in combat they’d actually give a shit about collateral damage and civilian casualties, two things their commanders not only don’t give a flying fuck about, but oftentimes actively work to increase. They’d be more likely to do horrible, horrible things like questioning their superiors and *gasp*, filing complaints! And they might actually do something about all the horrible, incompetent, evil bastards strewn here and there throughout their command chain, or when another soldier in their unit does something like, you know, throwing candy out the back of their vehicle then mowing down the children that come to collect it. (That actually happened.)
And don’t think for a fucking second the military actually cares about any of the evil shit they do on a regular basis. They may not endorse all of them, but even without the higher ups actually ordering atrocities (which, to their credit, they usually don’t order them on purpose) push so hard to cover them up many of them aren’t known about for years. Even if the press gets ahold of it, which happened a lot in Iraq, for instance, they don’t punish all or even most of the men responsible, they pick a scapegoat, (usually an NCO or low-ranking officer) or sometimes a few scapegoats, and let all the others go free without so much as a slap on the wrist, then make a tonne of shitty excuses to the press and ignore the actual problem entirely.
And let’s not forget the biggest example of them ignoring their own evil: their supply chain. Because there’s no denying the military is largely responsible for the political power of the military-industrial complex, which has lead to the United States taking the path of Argentina by bringing corporate money into politics, removing any actual influence of the voters upon policy, thus turning the states into an oligarchy, ever widening income inequality and leading to the eventual elimination of the middle class. All that shit? That’s ALL the military’s fault.

@ Avian Mosquito:
I have to reiterate my earlier statement, You should join.
@ Steven:
Then you’re bloody stupid for thinking that. Doubly stupid for making that your entire defence.
>@ Avian Mosquito:
Join the Military and help fix it’s internal problems. Now, hear me out. Instead of quoting blogs you’ve heard and read at people, you could make an actual difference in the world.
@ Steven:
“Quoting blogs”. I have done no such fucking thing.
The military is beyond saving, and nobody can do anything from the inside. Especially since its biggest crime was the sheer power it gave to the companies that fuel it. We fought the last half dozen wars just to give them contracts, and stayed in them way too long just to keep those contracts going. The military can’t fix that anymore.
…Well, that’s one way to deal with an extreme Christian.
Not the best way, but a way nonetheless.
@ Steven:
Can we shut up about this? It’s going to end up like last time.
@ Sarusig:
Not exactly bad, neither exactly good. I mean, she just said “gays are bad” in front of the girl who kissed her. I guess this is a indirect way to tell this to her.
…again, i guess.
@ Egomane:
The only link between her and Landon is that she has his mothers phone number on speed dial, but then she refers to her as “Mrs.Hill” meaning their not that close…
WARNING! WARING! DRANGER WILL ROBENSON! DANGER WILL ROBENSON!
I cannot see this ending well.
So, would it be out of line to believe that Harriet might some how try to have a small camera attached to his glasses or maybe even somehow implant them in his eyes?
@ Lambda:
Their just friends supposably but Zoey has other things in mind
I’m surprised at all of the speculation over “why.” This is true of all of the characters in the comic: they may be ridiculously cruel to each other, playing pranks and fighting and sabotaging their teachers as well as each other, but they’re still mature. If somebody is in danger of getting really hurt, they’re on it. If there’s a real social problem, they’re on it. If their worst enemies are being made miserable because of a vicious overreaction on the part of an adult, they’ll pick up the phone in a heartbeat.
Take Cloud’s approach to bullying, or Sandra’s reaction when Woo has a premonition. I’d be willing to bet that this is what every last one of us wishes we had the guts and social support to act like as kids.
@ Jeshua Morbus:
She said “for a crazy Christian fundamentalist, gays are bad”. Which isn’t exactly a bold statement. And if you had any doubt about that, “fire with fire” should seal the deal.
Let’s not be daft, it’s not like Harriet could be convinced via reason.
This is… this is some kind of wonderful counter-fundamentalist judo. 😀
@ Egomane:
Maybe she is a closet romantic (or shipper).
DAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYUUUUUMMMMMM!!!
Michelle, you’re awesome.
@ jonbimk21:
I know right?
And this is where it stopped being funny. I hope they get to the climax and denouement soon.
@ Steven:
Change it from the inside out . . . yeah, right! Because that worked in . . . and then there was that time in . . . and of course there’s the classic example of . . .
@ Landbark:
Umm, become gay? By Birth. That’s how that works…what century are you from?
@ Egomane:
Its because deep down, Michielle is a hopeless romantic. Despite hating Larissa’s guts and being indifferent to Landon, she knows true love when she sees it, and she feels compelled to protect it whenever its threatened in some way. Its just that she has to be a massive bitch while doing it.
@ Landbark:
For someone who sees witchcraft as a sin against god and the rampant hypocrisy perceived in the stereotype Landon’s mom neatly falls under, somehow I do not think she would take a scientific and logic-based route of reasoning to avoid making a fool of herself.
EXcellent!!! totally excellent. best comic i have read so far and i have been keeping up with this since 2010!
@ Elosva:
huh… didn’t see that coming either ^-^
@ Random lurker:
Oh blessed Beyonce, Tom Daley is gay!
~~~Not quite. He’s dating a man, but never said he was gay.
Oh, c’mon. Have you looked at him? He’s as gay as buttsex during a musical.
@ Avian Mosquito:
I can’t tell if you are trolling or being willfully ignorant. There is a practicality to teaching people to just do as you are told. I always make everything over complicated, for instance. If you are under enemy fire it is probably best if the unit functions as a unit instead of a group of individuals, better to do a suboptimal thing very well than the right thing poorly.
In what world do you live where the military is what brings money into politics? Money has always been in politics! Literally, since the start of politics. Circa the first primates to seek favor with someone they don’t like. More interesting is that corporations can now donate to campaigns. that means whoever Walmart wants to win will have a huge advantage. And the open gerrymandering…. Really, the military is NOT the reason we are an oligarchy. Stop distracting from real problems.
And murder…. Murder? You trying to Godwin this thing? Here, I’ll do it for you. ‘You know who else had a military? Hitler!’ Yes, the military caries out paternalistic objectives in a manner I am uncomfortable with. But if you are saying that killing to save others is murder, or that killing in self defence is murder, than go away and stop lying. Murder has a definition, stick to it.
I’m just afraid this will backfire for both Michelle and Landon. Landon’s mom will likely try to arrange girls she would like her son to date, and that might bounce back to Michelle as the reason for it.
Remember, “the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”
Okay, I gotta admit and even though I’m a christian, that was pretty clever and dang funny!!! LOL XD
I love the subtle nuance that it was specifically Larissa that “cured” him of being gay, and that if he’s not with Larissa, then he will be with a guy instead, LOL. And the fight fire with fire at the end was priceless, which is worse Mrs Hill? The “devil” incarnate, but still a female? or being gay? Plus, i do know a few people who are as gay as a handbag full of rainbows, and that is almost as prefect a saying as could be found, though I would have to include “as gay as a Fabulous handbag” myself 🙂
I am too
So she is trying to help rather than make things worse. Good for her! I just hope she doesn’t end up making things worse inadvertantly.
Also, it may not be nice to promote homophobia like that, but people like Harriet don’t exactly respond well to nice.
Nice move, go Michelle!
Damn … i think i understand zoey why she fell of Michelle, she is just …. dayum savage
Homophobic picture. This is Cringe worthy!
I love these two XD
