- Cloud: This has to be a bad dream.
- Sandra: I think you look very sexy.
- Sign: NEW GENDER-NEUTRAL SCHOOL UNIFORMS – TRY-OUT DAY
- Cloud: SEXY?! You think I’m looking sexy in a skirt?!
- Sandra: Very much so.
- Cloud: Since when are you such a naughty girl?
- Sandra: 9:17 a.m.
- Cloud: Surely you know that naughty girls need to be punished. With a kiss!
- Sandra: Oh no! But I’ll be good from now on! Promise!
- Cloud: Okay, then just a peck on the cheek.
- Sandra: Aww, Cloud, that’s not–
- Dorothy Cambridge: AIIIE!
- Dorothy Cambridge: A peck on the cheek WITHOUT a notarially certified declaration of consent!!!
- Male activist: Count yourself lucky that revision 2 of the new school regulations will only come into effect next Monday!
- Cloud: Hey, that hurts!
- Dorothy Cambridge: Are a hundred yards enough for the restraining order against your attacker?
- Sandra: W– what?
Ok, someone please smack that lady >:-[
when will they get rid of her? She’s literally my most hated character in this entire webcomic
GEEZ!
Someone’s swinging for this.
I’m going to address this as the “Tumblr feminist arc” now.
*patiently waits for Ye Thuza to shove actual feminism in Dorothy’s face*
It’s like we have our very own Umbridge.
BRING IN THE CENTAURS!
Clouds gunna need a buster sword to strike down this fumbling tumblrite.
There’s no denying he looks cute though
Ok is she a teacher or the principal? She shouldn’t be able to do all this without getting into trouble herself.
ok…. seriously, can someone please just shoot her? ist getting rediculous by now… i mean, in any normal School she and her masked helpers would have been tarred and feathered by now…. or worse/better….
Ye is coming.
Is it just me or has Cloud started looking like a girl lately? It’s not just the clothes, in panel 4 he really looks feminine. Is Cambridge forcing the boys to wear makeup too?
OK, where is my Scottish Claymore? Time to go all old school on her.
Ye Thuza-sensei, make her death SLOW, HORRIBLE AND *PAINFUL*!!!
This is becoming very disturbing. Making fun of the idea that consent is important? Seriously?
I was expecting Larissa to be the one to fall afoul of this, and woe to those who get on her bad side!
I was threatening to wear a skirt at work in protest of company dress policies. Never went through with it though. Did look into a kilt, but they are surprisingly expensive.
A restraining order on Cloud? Nah, would make the relationship tricky.
A restraining order on you? 100 metres isn’t cutting it, lady.
Come on, Cloud – that’s not a difficult grip to get out of…
how do we know this isn’t LL dream?
@ oxayotl:
Getting it notorized is a bit extreme but http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-California/2014/06/04/College-Students-May-Need-Verbal-or-Written-Consent-to-Have-Sex-on-Campus
The comic, I suppose, isn’t so much mocking the need for consent as it is is mocking the third party who decides what that consent is.
That’s kind of a problem with identitarianism in general… To an extent, it’s about strong-arming people into cooperation rather than giving the abused tools and assistance to stand on their own. I’m hoping that’s sort of the note this arc ends on: not denouncing this movement(s), but denouncing the parts that don’t work.
@ oxayotl:
I think it’s less about consent is important but that some people need to realize that someone doesn’t need to explicitly say “yes do the thing now” for it to be understood that there is consent.
Oh, they hurt Ye Thuza’s son.
No one hurt Ye Thuza son.
They just woke up the sleeping tigress.
The punishment will be swift.
Thuza is coming……punishment will be ” “……..
Sandra: Yards?!?!?!?! Madam, do you not realise that the whole system of imperial measures is founded on male imperialism?? The shorter measurements being taken from idealised masculine anthropometrics, with the longer measurements tied to their enslavement of the land and the beasts that they compelled to work it? No, let me use a measurement that is scientifically neutral, at least! I insist that Cloud should maintain a distance of twenty million angstrom from me at all times, and in addition, I think he should also be compelled to make himself useful to the nearest female until he learns the correct mental attitude!
Cambridge: …Very well. Agreed!
Later:
Cambridge: Hang on… twenty million angstrom is two millimetres!
Sandra: Yes, the same thickness as the material in our uniforms. And Cloud’s lap is certainly being useful as my seat cushion. Are you developing the correct mental attitude down there, Cloud?
Cloud: I am content.
Sandra: Yes! Another forthright step toward equality!!
Cambridge: But… but…
>:=)>
Can this scumbag just stop existing? I know some characters are meant to be hated, but geez.
Skirts are awesome! I never understood why men are supposed to wear trousers, which hardly leave room for the manbits.
@ KendoSLice:
Sandra looks very annoyed in the panel – I don’t know if it’s because of wanting a full kiss, or because of not wanting a peck (that’s not made clear). In any case, it is indeed a situation where consent for the peck itself is questionable. So eh, I agree with oxayotl that this still feels off.
@ MJ:
The important thing for everyone to realize is that yes, if you want to be *sure* that someone else will be fine with what you are doing with their body, there is absolutely no way to forgo verbal or written consent. I mean, technically, what is the alternative? Which other system would give people whose consent was violated any possibility to complain?
The reasons such rules are established is because otherwise victims of sexual abuse have no way to really complain about their attackers – their attackers will just be able to say “you didn’t complain, so that means you consented” and would walk free. Many attackers probably even actually *believe* there was consent, and do not even realize that it was their own wishful thinking establishing “consent”. It’s not like listening to other people’s consent and giving a damn about it is taught a lot, eh? :-/
The point is, the perspective of what someone else *understood* should not matter for the question whether someone was violated. Even intent is not the point, because we look at the simple question whether a person *was* wronged or not.
Contrary to your article, such rules don’t really criminalize anyone – if you trust that you and someone else won’t violate each other’s consent even with different communication policies like “no means no”, you are free to do so. After all, nobody is gonna watch your bedroom. The ONLY way for these rules to have any effect is if someone you are sleeping with actually complains about you violating their consent, in which case you might have done so (*gasp* yeah really!).
And now before anyone mentions false accusations: it’s really the same as when a man trusts a woman to use the pill, and she lies about it and gets pregnant and the man has to pay child support. Yes: that stuff happens (rarely, of course, but it happens). But there is an easy precaution: just bring and wear a condom. It’s easy. You have full control about it. You may decide to forgo that precaution, but then it’s your own responsibility.
Establishing verbal or written consent is like wearing a condom. If you want to be safe, if you want to make sure that nobody can correctly say you violated their consent and get you punished because of such rules, as mentioned in that article – well, just *do* establish verbal or written consent. That’s like, asking a simple question. It’s not hard at all. Don’t make such a big fuss about it. Just do it! 🙂
Consent is great!
@ Jumtrev: Deathis too good for her. Utter humiliation would be much better.
The SandraxCloud shippers are not going to like this.
Good thing the president and secretary of the fan club are strong females. Go get’er Ye Thuza & Yuna!
Eh, at least they are tartan, so they could pass for a Scottish kilt. Nothing more manly than a kilt aye?
Boys in skirts are always fun, but the second half of this strip… you’re treading verrry close to some very sobering things…
Sorry but this whole arc is stale and boring. It’s so heavy handed and I don’t find it amusing at all. I’ll check back in a week or so and hope the arc is finished.
Recruiting all members to haunt that Cambridge bitch down. Current members: 1/1000
Well, looks like Ye Thuza’s gonna have to cancel Church Choir.
Pretty sure that’s not considered “gender-neutral” in the U.S.
@ Gargoil-Cat:
No, I think that would be Landon’s mom.
Couldn’t Cloud just wallop that guy? He’s beaten bigger guys than that, before.
@ Thisguy:
I am afraid that she is too far gone to humiliate.
@ Trey Marlette:
Striking a teacher’s assistant would get him expelled unfortunately….but when one considers that this woman is dangerously close to having Cloud labeled a sexual harasser….
Then in that moment Cloud’s mother shows up, dressed in Black Momba’s yellow jumpsuit, and wielding a katana blade. Cue the Kill Bill music….
Gargoil-Cat wrote:
Well some kind of evil thing to hate.
@ oxayotl:
We’re talking about the same sort of mentality that allows for 5 and 6 year old boys to be charged with sexual harassment. Misandry is really serious and the politically correct fascist Establishment that allows such people power is alive and well in America.
Men have on average better legs anyway. 🙂
@ Gargoil-Cat:
i’m just waiting for he to literally be burned by the pyromaniac
@ D-Rock:
Never been to California have you?
Natanji wrote:
The german version has ‘..so war das nicht…’ which very likely would end in ‘gemeint’. From this I would read it as ‘That’s not what I meant.’ and assume she wants a full kiss.
@ Carl W. Roden:
He could at this point claim self defense and sexual harassment.
How much longer does this storyline have? I was ready for it to be done after the second comic.
@ Van:
He might, but men rarely get taken seriously with that particular defense.
I’m still asking if this is supposed to be entertaining. Sandra&Woo once was a funny and good webcomic that I read constantly from the beginning… It once was.
@ Natanji:
Men invented pants for riding horses. Women started wearing them for the same reason (except in the orient, not sure why they wore them there), and to ride bicycles. Originally everyone wore tunics of some kind with differing decoration for genders.
Deal with her the same way the British navy used to deal with pirates. Give an old fashioned neck tie.
