- Sandrine West: I’m innocent!
- Williams Cloud: Ha! You can tell that to your grandma!
- Sandrine West: Maybe I’ll do just that!
- Williams Cloud: You wouldn’t dare!
- Grandma: What’s the matter, dear?
- Sandrine West: I’m innocent! Yet these two are employing cruel interrogation methods that are incompatible with the principles of a modern state under the rule of law!
- Williams Cloud: But we’re C.I.A. agents, we’re allowed to do that!
- Grandma: Not in my house!
- Dr. Larisa Kropotkin: We may have lost this battle, Williams, but we’ll win the war on freedom!

And again with that auld fairytale.
The author said something not showing the U.S. of A. in a glorified, godlike light of utter superiority, so he must be an evil hatemonger who is senselessly attacking everything good (read: american) for petty and unworthy reasons.
Well? Did I get that about right?
Yes, of course I completely went over the top in the above paragraph. But that “hate”-argument is simply absolute bullshit. And completely overused in a way that I can hardly do more than point at anyone using it and laugh in his face by now because of the rubbish he is spouting.
It’s a simple fact that several intelligence agencies, especially but not exclusively of U.S. origin, have crossed the line over the last decade. And they deserve to be criticised and mocked for it. And maybe, just maybe, a few of those guys that did wrong will finally learn that you can’t defend freedom by eliminating it.
And the main reason the U.S. agencies are on the receiving end in these comics? First, they were the ones making the news the loudest. Second and more imporantly, Sandra and Woo is set in the U.S., so the local (for the setting) agencies being the ones mentioned just makes sense.
@ Bree:
Thank you for showing that political views are not a binary a case of black or white, 1 or 0. The world would really be a better place if more people finally got that in their heads.
Guys guys calm down.
Bad politicians are everywhere. Not just in US. Humanity in general is capable in doing both extremes. You can find people who doing good but also people who act worse than animals or demons.
I still don’t get how dodgeball tied into this from episode 1?
@ Valkeiper2012:
Well, no question which camp you’re in, at least. Though I’m not sure exactly what the liberals in America want (Europe has a slightly different political climate) I doubt they advocate a more intrusive spy agency. Given the reasoning behind the right to bear arms, I’m pretty sure the founding fathers would’ve been in favour of a “right to evade surveillance” which NSA is trampling on.
Conservatives don’t want freedom for all. They want freedom for the rich. Some of their voters think conservative politicians also look out for the freedoms of the poor, but they’re deceived. Most of their voters, however, don’t vote for freedom but for morals:
Thou shalt not have premarital sex.
Thou shalt not abort.
Thou shalt not euthanize.
Thou shalt not do drugs.
Thou shalt not marry the same sex.
Those are not freedoms, anyone truly for personal freedoms would immediately scrap all four of those and replace them with full freedom on all fronts, under the condition that all involved consent, where a foetus isn’t a party in an abortion: even if you attribute personhood to something without a brain, the mother could just induce a premature birth by lightly poisoning herself, never touching the stillborn.
More pragmatic liberals would limit those freedoms by adding a minimum age of consent and declaring the more harmful drugs (say, drugs worse than alcohol, which are rare if the drug isn’t polluted and the dosage is sane) off-limits, both restrictions being meant to protect people against being manipulated into choices they’ll really regret later on.
You really hate America, don’t you?
The irony of a German accusing the US of this kind of thing is so thick I can’t even wade through it.
Lol some huge crap went down in the comments and I’m sitting here playing Unpossible on my Kindle Fire.

@SoleSurvivor: Re: Friendly advice ’bout Sandra & Woo: The children characters of this strip are currently engaging in an imaginary role playing game, like a lot of 12-14 year old kids do. This is a game of spy & counterspy/ interrogators. They often play these kind of imaginary games/adventures when the author & artist introduce different story arcs. This one happens to have a lot of political comments within it, but the humor and children’s games still show through. This is one of the best comic strips I have ever read, from Peanuts & Doonesbury to Bloom County and Calvin & Hobbes! As a new reader, I recommend that you go to the archives and start at the beginning strips for character development and back stories as well as continuing to read the current story arc as it progresses. You won’t be disappointed! ;D This strip is a lot of fun mixed with a lot of real world thought!

I can’t see my sweet little grandmother doing that at all. The worst she does is tease my sister about good looking Dutch boys.
GLORIOUS!!! One of the best arcs so far!
