Red, white and blue… Everything is the same.
Don’t look down, but whose side Larisa is on come wartime?
I love these! These are great!
@ Stat:
Sides? She’ll just watch it burn. And maybe start some of the burning. But she won’t take a side.
Is that the ghost of the twin towers?
One week is worth the wait. It is so… aesthetic.
Worth the wait. good job.
The mental image I get from the top picture is that Larisa just set the statue’s torch on fire for real. No wonder she looks happy.
I know the reason for the World Trade Centers but I don’t get the St. Basil’s Cathedral . Anybody?
@ MathAddict: I think they chose it because it is one of the most renowned (and well-known) architectural icons in Russia. St. Basil’s Cathedral and Russia are so intermingled that most can not think of one without thinking of the other.
This is awesome, kudos.
Absolutely gorgeous work, and I loved the offbeat, trademark, Sandra and Woo twist in the last panel. This really was worth waiting for.
Well worth the wait!
Love it!
Woah! I love them both! 😀
I bet Larisa would totally succeed to replace Stalin as an ultimate dictator.. x3
Let’s watch it burn~! For Mother Russia! \m/>^w^<\m/
Glorious pictures–but yes, one tiny niggle. Russia isn’t the “Homeland”, it’s the “Motherland” or even “Mother Russia”. In Russian, it’s “Rodina”; in Cyrillic, “родина”
Great desktop backgrounds! It’s painful to contemplate the possibility of replacing my current background at home, but at least the top one would be good for my computer at work.

You want to put her in competition with the Empress Of Northia?
Larissa looks like she could be one of Russia’s most renowned Super Heroes in that second picture.
I kind of want both of these for background wallpapers…
Oh hey, the twin towers.
I would love wall paper versions of these.
@ Leomon:
I wouldn’t be suprised if she was direct descendant of Ilya Muromets 🙂
I LIVE IN RUSSIA AND STILL DONT HAVE MY BADASS FLAMING SWORD HOW IS THAT
I’m gonna go complain.
@ RussianDude:
I think it’s the flaming sword of St. Michael, a traditional supporter of the greater coat of arms of Russia, until 1917.

“Держава” actually means “state”. The line in the picture is an quote from Russian state anthem, and it is indeed officially translated as “homeland”.
Those look pretty damn awesome. If you get one for Canada, “We Stand On Guard For Thee” or something, let me know. 🙂
@ Xezlec:
Then don’t replace. If you’re on windows, you can make it cycle by putting them all in the same folder, then click and drag over both files to select both of them. Then you right click and choose “set as desktop background”. The pictures will then cycle through, allowing both to be your desktop pic.
Huh. No whining, just positive responses.
Lovely paintings.
Wow the Russian one would be perfect for the loading screen for a C&C Red Alert game.
Well, I read “America, land of the fire”, and I was like “no wonder Larisa likes it”, but then I read again, and I was disappointed.
Also: “United States, not America” (free taunt from a Frenchman :-p )
I have it on good authority that it translates more closely to “Our Blessed Stronghold.”
The sword reminds me of the one Rand created before vistiing the Aelfinn in The Wheel of Time, except that it lacks the heron engravings.
Larisa didn’t make it by channelling saidar, did she? That would be frightening.
Love both portraits.
@ Moatl:
Sorry, but no. It’s just flaming weapon of cavalry units and cossacs. St.Michael is pictured with classic broadsword.
Awesome artwork!
I can see now why we had to wait for this one.
Gorgeous work. I tip my hat to you, Oliver for the idea and especially Powree for the marvelous execution.
Beautiful! and the punchline is glorious! xD had me laughing really hard.
@ Stat:
On the side that has the most fire. …Mostly because whichever side Larisa is on will become the side most on fire.

Well, with work this awesome, there’s nothing to complain about.
…Plus, you’d kinda have to face the wrath of Larisa, and nobody wants that.
Great wallpappers
I love these posters, though I do wonder, from that look of manic glee on Larisa’s face, if her motives for bringing that large and probably flammable flag over to the giant torch are 100% patriotic…Still, that’s an American freedom too. I also like the mix of traditional and modern ceremonialism in the Russian one, which does seem to be a common motif in Russian patriotic posters.

@ NeksusCat:
Ya Thusa was offered the job but she turned it Down.
Russians get So Depressed when they drink.
And, they Love to Drink.
Ya Thusa is basically a Happy, Cheerful person, so she didn’t think it was a “Good Fit”.

And war is the health of the state.
Skill
Oh man this is so glorious. Also is it deliberate to show America got advantage in airforce power while Russia in land units?
Who wins:
Larissa the pyromaniac
Or
Larissa the KGB assassin?
Orrr…
Do they end up making out with each other amidst the world in flames?
I know this is outof character for me but… love the dress!
@ roguebfl:
Alliances aren’t unheard of… I guess Cloud would be Sandy’s royal consort until the alliance conquered his mum’s homeland and installed him at the head.
Why isn’t “Powree is awesome” in the tagline?
Wait a second. Does she mean that the actual paintings became self aware and started shipping weapons to the middle east?
It sounds ridiculous, I know, but so does kissing somebody several blocks away, or defying gravity in gym class.
