- Larisa: That’s it for the theory. Let us now turn to the first practical exercise.
- Larisa: I hope you all remember what I just told you about starting fires.
- Larisa: Don’t forget to apply a strong downward pressure.
- Luna: Done!
- Larisa: Impossible!
- Luna: That was easy. What’s next?

So… Did Luna just beat Larisa in her own game? If so then should we worry that Larisa may go crazy…-er?
Larisa has a new rival.
I don’t know how this is supposed to be helping Luna, but it’s nice to see Larisa taken aback for once.
…. Someone’s actually beating Larisa…
*cough* *cough* I think that world war 3 may be looming ahead… Larisa vs. Luna. Who will win?!
Only possible conclusion: Larissa has been replaced with an inferior robot copy. Get the flamethrower.
@ SmartAlec105:
Why do I always want to spell Larisa with two S’s?
Larisa wasn’t the first person in the room to start a fire…everything I know is a lie.
Larisa, what have you done?!
Uh, is there a point to any of this? I am not sure how this is supposed to help Luna

Oh no… Is this beginner’s luck or…………. *dramatic sounds*
Luna: “Well, how else are we supposed to get some heat in our apartment?”
Well, the goal of this was to ignite a spark of confidence and talent in Luna.
Larisa might have succeeded TOO well, because as the saying goes…if you play with fire, sooner or later, you’re gonna get burned.
The heat of competition may just yet flare up.
(How many puns am I missing?)
Instead of the usual comment about the strip (its really good btw), I’m gonna share my thoughts on the poll:
I feel like video games is a very obvious first for lots of us, as well as movies for another large part of us, but I think music would be a second favorite for near all of us. Anybody else have some thoughts?
I was half expecting someone to pull out a lighter a la the Doraemon movie. Nice to see Luna one-upping Larisa, though. Think she had survival training?
Luna is more awesome then larisa!!
I really want the next comic to be Larisa fainting while everyone is dressed in Victorian era clothing. I don’t care about continuity or stuff making sense. I want to see everyone dressed in Victorian era clothing!
well, thats interesting@ SmartAlec105:
Great now larisa is going to get very competitive with Luna. EVERYONE TO THE BOMB SHELTER!!!
As I see it Luna would have a lot of experience with improvising things due to shortage of resources, that includes starting fire.
Having actually DONE THIS, with tools to make it go faster mind you (ye olde bow method), it still takes about an hour if you’re doing it right.
That just makes this all the more impressive.
I suspect Luna used a lighter or some accelerant. Then again, she could possibly be experienced with this as others have guessed.
At first, I thought they were inside, but eventually I noticed the grass and sidewalk texture. Good to see they’re being responsible.
I love how happy Luna is with herself in the last panel!
@ Tucci78:
I was thinking the same thing… poor Luna… (And I think it’s actually the point of that joke?)
Aw, heck with it:
Luna Got Skills!!!
Luna’s real Secret? Nobody told her this was supposed to be Difficult.
@ Maltesefan:
Once she can set water on fire the. She can say she wins.
How to be an arsonist – 101
I love that she was waering that shirt underneath the whole time just so she could look cool doing this
I think Luna mastered the art of simple fire making because her house has no gas. Some one doing it for a living is probably better than someone doing it as a hobby.
I get the feeling Luna is more of a trades person then a university person.
… Please tell me the alt-text isn’t going to follow the Hunger Games series for the next three panels…
Oh, shoot, it is now.

I just noticed that the style matches Stan’s from Monkey Island — that is, the pattern is flat and does not flow with the creases and such in the shirt.
@ Lucario:
In addition, it’s larger on the first panel than on the following panels, and the pattern holds true even when she has her arm in front of her chest.
The pyro is strong within this one.
Lukkai:
I agree with your sentiments but did you really have to quote him?
By doing so you are propagating his hatred and when Novil deletes his post yours will still be here.
Luna has found a talent! 😀
It is getting kinda obvious. You are just preparing us on No. 666 which will be something like “Larisa Nukes the World” I guess…
Uh-oh! Larisa… remember the story of doctor Frankenstein? 😉
@ SmartAlec105:
You’ve been playing too much Master of Olympus: Zeus
The “setting things on fire” tag is into its third page, now.
I love Sandra and Woo.
“Impossible”? This from the person that lit water on fire the last strip?
Something dark is brewing. I feel like a grave mistake was just done.
I have the oddest feeling that they set her up to succeed somehow, to boost her confidence.
*GASP* Alas, this page has reached 50 comments! My comment will now go on the…no…NOOOOOOOOOO0OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
@ SmartAlec105:
Because you’re a good speller.
Hmm… I wonder if there are any Lovegoods in Luna’s family tree.
@ Tucci78:
Touche – that’s probably the best, most reasonable explanation for how anyone could beat Larisa at her own game.
Ha! Beat you to it, Larisa.
@ SmartAlec105:
In Russain, there is no long ‘s’ in Larisa: Лариса. So no)
