[0715] Larisa Learnt A Thing
└ posted on Thursday, 3 September 2015, by Novil
- Sandra: Why on earth did you send Landon a naked photo of yourself with such an insecure app?!
- Larisa: I… really didn’t think that through.
- Sandra: You can say that again!
- Larisa: But I’ve already learnt a very important lesson from the whole thing.
- Sandra: Good!
- Larisa: Before sending a naked pic, always make sure to remove all pimples and stuff with Photoshop. Because you never know how many people will look at it later.
- Sandra: Doubleplus ungood!
Nothing was learned, *sighs* Oh well! Wouldn’t be Larisa without arson and promiscuity (though i guess that last one doesn’t fit much since Landon)
Well, if you’re gonna screw up, may as well look good doing it!
Or so they say. I still don’t know who “they” are, though.
Oh man…
Next time, consult with Miley!
hahahaha, that’s Larisa for sure. Very funny update
i look this reference (1984)
Oh, Larisa, you’ll grow into a very entertaining woman to be with.
And I see that Sandra is fine with sending naked pictures, as long as it’s done with a secure app.
On a more sombre note: a 17-year-old is being charged as an adult with a felony crime: having naked pictures of himself. It’s not a felony to have naked picture of an adult, but it is a felony to have naked pictures of a minor. So for purposes of deciding how serious the crime is he’s an adult, but if he’s an adult there is no crime.
Oh, and he took those pictures to send to his 16-year-old girlfriend. It is legal for the two of them to have sex; but it’s a felony for them to take pictures of themselves or each other naked.
Even if you disapprove very strongly of child pornography, I hope you can agree that this is insane.
Teen Boy Will Be Charged As Adult For Having Naked Pics of a Minor: Himself (from reason.com>
Also before sending a naked or nearly-naked picture of yourself taken in the bathroom and from high up, *close* and/or *flush* the toilet. Seriously.

Well, obviously Larisa has her Priorities.
And, it’s Possible that she’s just Messing with Sandra, but I suspect not.
I’m finding myself wondering if Larisa has a more “European” attitude while Sandra is Definitely USA All The Way in Her attitude toward this event.
.
Of course, I’ve known a few American women who would agree with Larisa on this.
They could Never Understand what the whole Fuss was about Nudity.
They just Didn’t Care beyond clothing’s “Decorative” uses.
Sandra, now’s not the time for math!
Another thought: she put “For your birthday” in the message, and anyone who recognises her is going to start wondering who’s just had a birthday. Of the 490,000 people who just got that picture on or within a day of their birthdays, many will consider it a sweet gift or tasteless prank, depending on their ages and natures. Anyone who knows her personally, has a birthday this week, got that message and picture and isn’t Landon … could become confused, awkwardly confused.
This was the last place I expected to see Newspeak today. It made me very happy.
So it’s not THE most important lesson, but it’s still important!
I bet the WiFi on her phone is not even turned on. Or its in airplane mode.Or something, but that picture sure didn’t get through. There is no way out of this otherwise, unless Seeoahtlahmakaskay wipes the memories of all phones and people.

This isn’t the first time something like this happens. Not many years ago, a young girl ended up registered as a sex offender for the same reason.
Considering modern hackers… If you do naked pics at all, you probably should take care of that… =)
So is this the end of the arc?
Don’t bet on it. However, it does have a final feel to it, though I’m hoping for some sort of resolution.
@ steveha:
So… does this means every grandma in USof A may go to jail due to the traditional photo of a toddler on a rug?
I feel like, with changed dialogue, this could be fit at the end of any of these two’s adventures. Sandra tells her how dumb it was Larisa just kinda shrugs, Larisa pretends to learn lesson, Sandra looks disapprovingly at Larisa once it’s clear she learned nothing.
D’awww <3
I’m so confused by the comments. C’est la vie.
@ Rex Vivat:
It’s almost like the justice system is just as much “for profit” as the rest of the country and will take advantage of everything they can get their hands on.
@ coyoteBR:
It is not illegal for parents to post pictures of their babies online. However in the example of the comic, Larisia can get charged for possessing and distributing child pornography, and if she turns 17 in the 8 months it takes for the case to get to court, she can be charged as an adult, which means possible jail time and registering as a sex offender.
How many 12-year-olds have read 1984 (and internalized it to the point of using Newspeak in casual conversation)?
@ steveha:
And then there’s the teacher who was convicted of having sex with a minor student. Never mind the fact that she was 21 at the time, and was a student at a college while he was teaching in a high school. The high school kept her on the rolls when she graduated, so regardless of her age or not really being a student there, he was charged as if she was 16 years old. And of course no one cares that keeping a student on the rolls after graduation is fraud, as the school continues to collect money for that supposed student.
Oh, and of course the definition of child can include women of any age in a lot of places, since breast size is becoming a popular way to determine what is and isn’t child pornography.
Children often have poor judgment and little impulse control, so I agree they need some legal protections. But it really has gotten ridiculous. Especially since the system often follows up “protection” with sending the children to state-approved rape stations, otherwise known as foster homes. Yes, I know that in theory foster parents aren’t all serial molesters, but the numbers are very, very bad.
OK larisa it’s disguise time, because your going to haft to lay low after this.
Love the comic, read it since the beginning. Never commented, but I can’t let you use that excellent 1984 reference without applauding it’s use 😛
Well done on another great strip!
Ha! Nice!
That’s Larissa! Girl has her priorities! 😀
Well, it looks like Larisa’s logic sank into the memory hole.
And good to see Sandra reading a doubleplus good classic.
@ DHBirr:
1984 quotes and references show up enough in pop culture that most people recognize many of the more common ones, even if they’ve never read the book. Sandra could have picked up this phrase lots of places, and might not even know where it originally came from.
Huh. This feels creepy. I can’t help think Larisa is a cool character and i wonder how young girls read this comic and take on a bit of her personality with a relaxed approach to sexuality. Pedophilia isn’t a laughing matter. And I hope the subsequent comics reflect the danger of this behaviour. It could ruin someone’s life to do this.
When god created insanity he took “law” and thinned it down with water.
DoublePlus Ungood! Hah! Great 1984 reference!
@ Dave:
And flamethrowers and arson are? If you haven’t been getting creeped out by Larissa until now, you haven’t been reading very well.
On a more serious note, teens and preteens are having sex and sexual urges. Deal with it. You’re not going to protect them by sheltering them. You’re not going to protect them by only teaching them about abstinence and shaming them. Give them the tools to go about it in a safe and sensible manner, and don’t try to judge or shame them, and most of them will conduct themselves in a safe and sensible manner. As a plus, they’ll even know what consent is and how important it is to get consent, and how to refuse.
Fun fact: The states with the highest teen pregnancy rates are all abstinence-only states.
Wow Larisa, failing so hard that you make Sandra use Newspeak is a special kind of stupid.
How old are the main characters now? Because I think this was landons 2nd birthday in the series because he got that girl on fire painting for his last one is the photo Larissa tried to send a new gift for his birthday since the painting was destroyed or has a year passed In there series? Or is the comic just a time stands still type like the Simpson’s we’re there are more Halloween specaila the Lisa has has had birthdays
Sorry I be needing holder grammar but please respond to my comment anyway
I have the feeling that this is not the first time this has happened

Uh, have you heard the Phrase “Private Prison Corporation”?
Prison Labor?
Asset Forfeiture?
Law Enforcement Has been turned into a “For Profit” industry.
That’s why the USA has More people in Prison than Any Other Country on the Planet even though both China & India have 1,000,000,000 More people Each than our paltry 322,184,836 we have More Prisoners than Both put together.
You’d have to throw in Mexico’s prisoners as well to get the total above ours.
@ Jerry:
Isn’t it ridiculously expensive to keep someone in prison? Particularly in first world countries where the duty of care is fairly high.
@ coyoteBR:
Yes. You’d think not, but ‘the law is the law.” It must be obeyed. Even when it makes no sense? ESPECIALLY then! (So sez police and prosecutors the world over!)
Uh-ok, this is relevant:
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/09/busted-in-north-carolina-you-can-have-sex-at-16-but-you-cant-sext/
Apparently, sexting is more dangerous for teens than the act itself.

If she’ll grow up. Considering her attitude to life and amount of medicine she takes…
At least, I can assume the action take place in Germany. If it happenned in many states of the USA, Larryssa would be arrested, put in jail for some years, then be on the sex offender list for life… All because she’s HER OWN VICTIM!
No, really. Look it up. It happenned way too many times in the USA. It’s nuts.
Well Larisa, that’s something but NOT what you should’ve learned. Better luck next time!

Yes.
Which is exactly Why Corporations just Love getting the Contract to do it.
And The Corporate Contracts are Why the USA has so Many people in those Private Prisons. Most of the contracts require the States to Pay them even if the Prison were to somehow go Empty. They Guarantee 90% “Occupancy”, no matter what.
As the old song goes:
“My God, how that Money Rolls In.”
.
Wow, these strips got a whole lot fewer comments then I thought. Maybe you should have done more panels with Larisa buck naked, or something? Or kissing another girl. No wait, have her talk to a cow that’s in line to be made into beef. THAT will make people comment. I still love the “won’t someone think of the children” menarche that came out because of that, when barely a year prior there was a whole bit about teenage erections.
At this stage, it looks very much like this arc will have a cartoon ending: Ignore the realistic consequences of Larisa’s actions and just drop the subject.
There could still be some consequences, but I can’t see them being realistic else Larisa’s character would be permanently changed.
On the subject of how crazy the law is, I remember reading of the case of a young teen who was being charged as an adult for murder, at the same time as a case was proceeding against a man for sexual involvement with a minor – who just happened to be that exact same teen.
The law is effectively made up on the fly by the law enforcers and anything you can mention can be ruled illegal in court.
The same person being treated as both a child and an adult at the exact same time illustrates that insanity to perfection.
