Believe the hype and watch Zootopia
So I got around to watch Zootopia today. And it is a fantastic movie that you should not miss. I loved the story, the setting, the beautiful animations, the funny jokes, and especially the endearing characters.
I’m only sad that I haven’t found out Judy Hopps’ mail address yet since I plan to send her a letter asking for an autograph. Allegations that my letter will also include a marriage proposal are completely unjustified, of course. Because we all know that Judy…

… already loves Nick. Interestingly, Nick’s line at the end of the move is much more direct in the German version:
- Nick Wilde: You know you love me.
- Judy Hopps: Do I know that?
- Judy Hopps: Yes, yes I do!
While “love” can be interpreted in several ways here, Nick says “Du weisst, dass du auf mich stehst.” in the German version which directly translates to “You know you’re into me.”

My wife and I loved it. Definitely one of our favorite animated films to come out within the last decade. Had some pretty dark overtones for what it was.

Funny how good Disney movies have become since Pixar took over. Can live with the bloody sequels from Pixar as long as these good Disney’s keep coming out.

Yeah, putting John Lasseter in charge of their animation department was one of the smartest things Disney’s ever done.
(And say what you will about sequels, but I can’t wait for Incredibles 2.)
I felt like Zootopia did a very good job with being a movie that was effectively about racism without ever becoming preachy or overbearing about it.
Eh, I don’t support JudyxNick. It’s just way too predictable and over-done.

Zootopia IS NOT A PIXAR MOVIE. It is Disney alone who should be credited for this.

It indeed is a great movie, having seen it in both German and English that difference was also a bit of a surprise, because

In the book The Stinky Cheese Caper (And Other Cases from the ZPD Files), which is after the movie in the time line, their relationship is as good as in the movie, but it is not hinted at all that it goes anything beyond being partners at work

Anyway, definitely a recommendation, both in English (some puns only work in English, e.g. the bunnies multiplying) and in German (for the hilarious accent of weaselton and the imo better voices, plus the cuter pet name Nick has for Judy.

Well, given that John Lasseter, the mind behind Pixar’s success, is now in charge of Disney’s animation studios, I think it’s safe to say that it’s at least partly a Pixar movie as well.
Normally, I wait til movies get to the dollar theater to see them (cheaper and easier to get to), but I made an exception for Zootopia, and I’m glad I did. An excellent movie, though I was a bit disappointed Nick and Judy’s relationship didn’t go a bit further. I guess combing through all the fan art on Deviantart didn’t help my expectations, either. Maybe in the sequel, and I have no doubt there’ll be a sequel.
As for the Disney/Pixar angle some have been talking about, Disney owns Pixar but still has its own animation studio. Lassiter is head of Creative Control at both studios, which is why you’ll see his name for both studios.
