It really isn’t something I like to admit, but Sandra and Woo readers are a bunch of losers.
There are four new polls that appear randomly in the voting widget in the left sidebar:
- Which of the following story arcs did you like the most?
- How many other comedy webcomics do you read regularly?
- Do you also read Gaia?
- Do you go to comic conventions?
- Larisa: One of the problems of modern internet culture is that witty original content immediately gets milked like there’s no tomorrow.
- Larisa: But people get tired pretty damn fast of even the best new music video or funny comic when it gets reposted a hundred times a day.
- Larisa: The question is whether those dead memes could ever be revived successfully as long as enough time has passed since their downfall.
- Larisa: I say “No.” Someone who tries that is an uncreative hack who lives in the past.
- Sandra: That’s all very nice, Liz, but I’m afraid you just lost the game.

Clever, very clever… To all of us that just lost the game!

Which game?
As long as we’re not lusers 😀

D’oh – only when I looked at the transcript did I realise the significance of the last panel and Novil’s comment…
I don’t really get it. How exactly are memes related to that game?
Eventually you can just call it nostalgia.
Everything becomes nostalgic eventually.
Cod damn it
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I just lost.
10/10
Would lose again.
All the (human) readers of this strip know Larissa is a live-for-the-moment pyromaniac.
Lily is obviously not a reader or she’d never let Woo bring one of her kits into the same room with Larissa.
Heck, in her place, I’d steer clear of the entire county.
Sagaland! 🙂 I loved to play this game as a kid! 🙂
To the confused people, “The Game” is played by not thinking about The Game. Thinking about The Game means you lose. You can lose as often as you like, and if you lose, you must declare that you have lost loudly and proudly, causing any players who hear to lose as well. You generally need to forget about The Game before losing again. There is no winning. If you’ve read this, you are now playing The Game.
The game isn’t “played” in the typical sense, but there are definitely skillful and inept players.
I think the board game depicted is meant to be a miniature version of Cones of Dunshire, a fictitous board game from Parks and Rec? It might be something entirely different, however.
Unfortunately, I agree with Larissa: ever is too soon.
The Tourist huddles in the station,
While slowly night gives way to dawn;
He finds a certain fascination,
In knowing all the trains are gone.
Edward Gorey, from The Fatal Lozenge.
There. The game is easily unpicked and avoided. It originated with a bunch of guys who were stranded at a station overnight after all the transportation had stopped running; they challenged each other not to think about their situation for as long as they could. But Edward Gorey wrote The Fatal Lozenge (one of his many excursions into alphabetical rhyme) before any of those guys were even born, and so the solution he presents to their predicament clearly takes precedence. By knowing of its existence, anyone can avoid joining their game, and therefore cannot lose. Vi veri veniversum vivus vici, sweethearts! >;=)>
@ sal:
It looks to me like an old game from my childhood called Enchanted Forest – locate a specific fairy tale item (Cinderella’s slipper, Snow White’s apple, a lock of Rapunzel’s hair, etc.), determined by a card from a deck. First to three items wins.
I thought, traditionally, The Game ended when the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom admitted to having lost it on live TV, and I think that just happened.
I’m guessing Zoey and Michelle are cuddling in the next room.
Plenty of time has passed since the downfall of Downfall, but it sill pops up on occasion.

REALLY?!? WE’RE DOING THIS HERE?!!!??? I am disappoint.
Are those game pieces, or decoration trees?
@ Trimutius:
“The Game” is a game where whenever you think about it, you lose it, therefore, saying “you lost the game” causes people to recall the rules of “The Game” and subsequently lose the game right there.
God freaking dammit!

Dammit, well played… I lose.
What was it called? Sagaland?

Meh, I’m immune thanks to XKCD.

Happy 4th of July! I guess. Lol. 😀
P.S. Yes, you did it. Vega is now my new favorite character! So sweet. 🙂
WHY SANDRA WHY
gosh dang it… welp. now to share this on facebook and see how many people get it and get mad at me 😛
DAMN YOU! I haven’t lost the game in so long!
Gods below!!!
4 years! 4 years!!!
I just lost the game.
I feel like some people didn’t know they were playing The Game.

I just lost the game again.
Was I the only one who had no idea what “the game” is until the comments section?
I still don’t get any of this.
You could argue that, baring the possibility of reincarnation, it is possible to win or at least stalemate. Upon reaching the end of your lifespan, it is no longer possible for you to lose.
This raises a very important question. Does being a zombie render one capable of once again losing the game, or do they lack sufficient awareness to do so? And for that matter, does being resurrected as a sentient undead (or in any other manner) undo having successfully won/stalemated The Game?

But honestly that’s part of the joke!
Most people look at ‘The Game’, Lenny Face, ‘wat da fuk’, ‘can i haz cheezburger’, ect. and roll their eyes. But sometimes tired, overused, annoying, becomes funny again. The strip isn’t really comedic all alone by itself.
It requires the experience of laughing at a stupid joke, getting SERIOUSLY annoyed because the joke is overused, and most likely ‘ROTFLMFAO’ when the joke reappears unexpectedly quite some time later.
It also helps that Larisa is sore because she just lost a game. 😛
@ sal:
Not the game Sandra and Larisa are playing, I’m betting you know this by now. But that is one of my favorite episodes!
Parks and Rec was the best show ever! 🙂 I love Amy Poehler.
P.S. Why is nobody mentioning how awesome the first panel is?!? *troll rageface*
I didn’t get it. Why am I a looser?
Eh, every time I hear that I’m just glad I’m not playing anymore (ever since xkcd immunized me).
God dammit Novil. I went nearly half a year without losing The Game, you asshole.
This could have been much worse, but I lost a little under a month ago. Still, I hope you broke a lot of records!
Love Vega and Woo playing in the background

Whatever helps you sleep at night.
It’s easier to just admit that you and I just lost the game instead of fantasizing that some webcomic author can change the rules. 😉 I’m willing to accept that I’m a loser just like everyone else here.
Alright. I’m done.
*waits for Thursday*
*Air horn noises*
I used to play that game when I was younger. I believe it is The Enchanted Forest board game.
@ Penokan:
Novil adresses any reader as a loser who knows the meme about “The Game” (you lose the game anytime you think about the game). Once you realize that Sandra has pulled this meme in the last panel, you can’t avoid to instantly think about “The Game” yourself, thus you lose the game, too.
I win The Game every time someone else thinks of it without me reminding them of it first.
Looking at the comments, I actually see a lot of winners. Every person who posted a “didn’t get it” comment, is a winner.
Of course, if participating in the Special Olympics makes the value of winning questionable compared to losing, The Game takes it one step farther by making losing preferable.
