It really isn’t something I like to admit, but Sandra and Woo readers are a bunch of losers.
There are four new polls that appear randomly in the voting widget in the left sidebar:
- Which of the following story arcs did you like the most?
- How many other comedy webcomics do you read regularly?
- Do you also read Gaia?
- Do you go to comic conventions?
- Larisa: One of the problems of modern internet culture is that witty original content immediately gets milked like there’s no tomorrow.
- Larisa: But people get tired pretty damn fast of even the best new music video or funny comic when it gets reposted a hundred times a day.
- Larisa: The question is whether those dead memes could ever be revived successfully as long as enough time has passed since their downfall.
- Larisa: I say “No.” Someone who tries that is an uncreative hack who lives in the past.
- Sandra: That’s all very nice, Liz, but I’m afraid you just lost the game.

Yeah, I don’t play The Game anymore. I don’t care what the rules say. It just stopped being fun at some point and became annoying instead.
@ sal:
Damnit.
I read the commic three times and the title, and thought real hard about all of it.
And not until just now did I lose the game again!!
They’re playing Gnome-mageddon, obviously.

So, I was technically winning the Game, as long as I didn’t know what the Game was. I only lost because they told me about the Game. Gee, thanks, guys!
The game never really dies,it just goes into hibernation.
GDI
A lot of people lost The Game today, moreso than usual.
Lost game
Damn you guys! And I was on a 32 year winning streak!
But what about the Anti-Mindvirus?
What game? Oh God this isn’t another encrypted thing is it?! *Starts analyzing board.
I wish to present everyone with the only sensible approach to this “game” madness.
The anti-mind virus: https://xkcd.com/391/
You’re welcome.
WOW
WAIT
Are they playing Sagaland/Enchanted Forest?!
I LOVE that game!
*tears streaming*
*when will we be free*
*when can we read internet comics in peace*
*when can we safely expect to simply go on with our lives*
…..
i lost the game
T_T
I am commenting simply to say that you have lost my readership. (Only half joking, I still read Gaia.)
A four year winning streak. I was on a four year winning streak and you ruined it for me Sandra!
I just realized they’re playing Enchanted Forest. I love that game! Haven’t played it in years.
One 24 hour uninterrupted loop of The Hamster Dance for you.
The Game. Which you just lost. @ Trimutius:
I don’t get it, but oh well
Love Woo and Vega playing in the backround
fu, m8! well, at least it’s a classic
“That’s all very nice, Liz, but I’m afraid you just lost the game” is a metaphor, folks. Now go back to what you were doing.
…dammit.
Also, is that Cones of Dunshire? Coz you know, it’s all about the cones.
@Hobbes
Yes, coming back from the dead (being resuscitated) does count as winning the game. But dying itself does not make you win the game.
> Odd game. The only way to win is not to play.
> How about a nice game of chess?
@ Edda:
Sorry, but if you see the tags, you would know that one is Vega. And she is already “corrupted” by Larisa, so no more damage here…
Darn you Sandra, I had about a five year streak going on! So much so, I was confused for a moment until it hit me!

The thing about rules is that, to be rules, they need to be enforced. Since nobody can force me to feel like I lost, the rule is worthless, and I will continue to happily ignore it. Enjoy your voluntary loserhood, I’ll pass.
@ Rex Vivat:
I was joking but good point. 🙂 TBO I’m tired of the game nonsense anyway, played with the meme long enough. Waiting for the next strip…
This comic page in particular reminds me a lot of SMBC and XKCD.

There’s an old meme called ‘the game’. Basically:
-Everyone is always playing the Game at all times
-The moment you remember you’re playing the Game, you lose the game.
-Losing does not remove you from the Game.
As you might imagine, it very quickly got annoying.
Darn it, I just lost the game!
Real mature. Real mature. It has been lost.
God Damn It
@ Killjoy:
It’s probably just as well you don’t.
At least we didn’t get Rick Rolled.
I HAD A FIFTEEN MONTH WINNING STREAK.
I WROTE A BOT TO CHANGE ALL PHRASES OF “YOU LOST THE GAME” TO “SARAH PALIN”.
BUT IT DOESN’T CHANGE IMAGES.
FIFTEEN MONTHS.
FIFTEEN FREAKING MONTHS.
OUT THE WINDOW.
I don’t pay much attention to memes in general, but this reminds me of a thought I had earlier about music on the radio. There’s thousands of good songs in the world, but the stations that play the most in public places are stations that play only 50 recent songs over and over until they’re dead, dead, dead. It seems crazy to me. Is this really what people want, to hear the same great hits over and over until they don’t bring any joy anymore?
I think I should blame marketing (and things that are connected to it)… movie theaters, game stores, they have limited room to display content, so they train people to respond to hype and buy in impulsively, but chase them off if they’re attached to something the creators have already moved on from, and these techniques lead to backlash. It’s a complicated problem.
I want that first panel printed and framed in my kid’s bedroom if I ever decide to have one.

I read that XKCD when it first came out and didn’t get it, so I just shrugged and went on with life. I never heard of The Game until just now.
Huh… I guess that means I’ve been immunized since 2008.
[talking to self] It’s okay, don’t get angry, just breathe deep. Calm thoughts. Remember the XKCD where we won the game and it doesn’t matter. Everything is fine…
@ sal:
The game is called Enchanted Forest. (It was one of my favorites as a child, and not only is it a German game – from the company Ravensburger – but it’s tagged on the strip itself, so I’m 100% sure. 🙂 )
The little trees each have a picture of an item significant to a fairy tale – Cinderella’s slipper, the golden ball the princess drops down the Frog Prince’s well, etc. – and the goal is to find the tree that matches the fairy tale card, then make your way to the castle to reveal it before any other player can do so. It’s a cross between Memory and most traditional “race”-style board games. It also came with several suggested variants to make the game easier or harder (to accommodate different ages of players).
Dammit -.-
… it’s been 4 years. *Cue the manly tears* T^T
Everyone is talking about the game and nobody has mentioned how cute Woo and Vega are in the background of the first panel.
I LOST THE GAME!!!

Imagine the hell when one just cannot wait for a new strip so he decides to re-read them all.
Yeah, I’ve lost the game 3 times because of this strip.
