[0861] It Was The Choice Of Steins Gate
└ posted on Thursday, 16 February 2017, by Novil
- Cloud: Here, I copied the game data. Now you can check out “Steins;Gate” yourself.
- Larisa: I hate video games. I hate science fiction. I hate the manga style. And most of all, I hate the ridiculous semicolon in the title.
- Larisa: Why on earth do you think I would enjoy playing your stupid visual novel?
- Cloud: Because you’ll adore the characters.
- Larisa: “Because I’ll adore the characters?!” What kind of inane reasoning is that supposed to be?!
- Cloud: Just give it 15 minutes.
- Caption: One week later.
- Cloud: Please, Larisa! I don’t want to cosplay as Luka Urushibara!
- Sandra: Looks good on you!
The semicolon really is ridiculous.
@ Xezlec:
At least, it can be typed in with a standard keyboard. There are more titles with unicode heart, star, weird smiley (not katakana tsu), etc…
Everyone hates visual novels before trying them themselves.

The weirdest character I have seen in the name is this: ❦❦
Cloud was really arrogant in his assumption. In this case, Larisa ended up liking the characters more than he expected, but it could just as easily have been less.
That fourth panel could possibly have several endings, right?…
What is with the semicolon; is it important?

It’s not really arrogant, more like encouraging. She can always delete it if she doesn’t like it.
I’ve plopped several movies onto my wife’s iPad for to “give it 15 minutes”. I’m about 1 for 3 right now, and I’m in no way being arrogant about it– my wife appreciates me trying to find new things she likes. She can always delete it and go back to her own stuff.
Hehe, now for those who know. Which Luka?
Cloud, be thankful you didn’t introduce her to One Piece.
She hates video games, Sci-Fi, AND magna? Whelp, she’s totally unlikable now. Such a waste….
Cloud crossplaying? I didn’t think this comic could get any better~
He says, after putting on the costume.

Has noone introduced her to Witchhunter Robin?
This comic could really use a crossdressing Cloud joke/reference once in a while 🙂
“Sandra, why are you replaying Final Fantasy VII? And why aren’t you moving past the Cloud crossdressing scene?”
Sandra looks appreciative tho.
If I can remember the quote from the anime when introducing the character, they’d go on about all these wonderful feminine traits the character had, followed by “but he’s a guy” and damn it all, the way they drew him you couldn’t tell.
@ Commentary Ver.2.72:”I don’t want to cosplay-”
He’s a guy for most of the story, at least you’re cosplaying a male character, Cloud
Why’s Sandra Okabe?
@ Crestlinger:
Luka is the transexual one.
But he’s a guy!
Tuturu!

She’d be gone for a year or so trying to catch up.

I suspect that it’s more than expected but she’s still mad at him for copying it onto her pad without asking her permission.
Frig, somebody said it before me. But still!!!
TUTURUU~
Sorry, Cloud… You KNOW Larisa! What are expect, what will happen?! xD

LOL, and I’m not even sure why!
“I hate videogames, I hate science fiction”
You’re dead to me, Larisa! DEAD!!!
@ Shorts:
Luka is not transsexual and they were asking a joking question of whether it is male Luka or female Luka (for people that don’t know, different timelines alright). Both of which had moments of wanting to be the other one I believe but more because of Japanese culture than because that was the gender they identified with – in Japan it is difficult to be accepted if you don’t fit gender roles as much as you are expected to and sometimes people want characteristics the other gender role is supposed to have.
Crossdressing characters in Japanese games tend to have reasons that fit this narrative of ‘this isn’t expected of my gender and I don’t want to be rejected because of it, so I dress up as the gender it is more accepted from’.

Answer: The best kind, Larisa, the very best.
I find, more and more now that I am paying attention, that my level of engagement with any story (whether written, animated, game, comic…) is almost directly proportional to my level of engagement with the characters. If I don’t care for the characters, it won’t matter what happens to them. If I do care what happens (this can be negative [i.e. I really hate Mr. Villain, I want to see him get what’s coming to him] as well as positive)I want to keep going, to discover how the story will impact the characters, rather than the other way around.
Not sure I explained that well, but my opinion stands.
@ Orio:
Well, technically he’s still cosplaying as a male. Just a very, VERY feminine male; basically a trap.
@ roguebfl:
And now I’m totally picturing Larisa in Robin’s dress.
Tuturu~ Larisa desu ^^
Does she make an exception for video games that let you wield flamethrowers?
@ Xezlec:
But it does make you remember the title. And the anime. And, possibly, the story. Maybe.

Hardly surprising; we know Sandra thinks Cloud looks good in a skirt. And who could blame her?

I’m not referring to him recommending it, I’m referring to his “you’ll adore the characters”.

I strongly agree with you.

Seriously. That series should be right up Larisa’s alley.
No comment, just reestablishing my cookies after a malware attack.
Aaaaaand it goes right to teasing Cloud again. Called it. Jesus, the girls need to back the hell off.
@ Wanderer:
Sure, as Larisa can already set fire to whatever she’s seeing ^^

As I keep saying (and being ignored), Steins;Gate is the second in the semicolon series, a series of Visual Novel collabs between 5pb and Nitroplus. You may recognize the latter for having made Super Sonico and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. And the prior for… well… mostly the semicolon series.
The semicolon series mostly revolves around science doing the magical or impossible, and how organizations and individuals attempt to exploit it for evil. All the stories take place in the same world, but there are very few repeating characters.
The semicolon series includes, in order:
Chaos;Head (+Noah)
Steins;Gate
Chaos;Head Love Chu Chu
Robotics;Notes
Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram
Chaos;Child
Steins;Gate 0
Anonymous;Code
Occultic;Nine
My personal favorite is Robotics;Notes. But Steins;Gate is the most popular.
@ Carthienes:
I find that I adore THESE characters.

Judging from the fact that Larisa seems to be hemming the skirt, as well as Cloud’s pose, it appears that he is not wearing pants. This would have Sandra staring at Naked Cloud Bum™.
But he is a guy.

I think is weird that Cloud calls Ruka for her full name, Rukako could have been more natural, I think.
Well, lets be honest here. The one who came up with the name Steins;Gate (in the game) was the somewhat nutty and chuunibyou MC, Okabe (HOUOUIN KYOUMA!!!) If you consider his personality, that he probably just thought having a semicolon was cool, then the semicolon in the real world is actually not that ridiculous. In fact, having the semicolon there not only points to the strangeness of the MC, but also to the strangeness of the setting as a whole, which in turn makes putting a semicolon in the title somewhat ingenious. Of course, for anyone who hasn’t seen or heard of the game, they wouldn’t understand the reference. So, yeah, it would look pretty ridiculous.

I think the more pressing question is “why is Larissa Mayuri?” Other than that role giving her an excuse to put the others in cosplay, I guess.
