Character occurrence frequency 2008 to 2017

Here are two diagrams that show how often the main and supporting characters of Sandra and Woo appeared in each year. Note that there were only 20 strips in 2008. The last year saw a renaissance of Cloud who appeared more often than in the previous three years combined. Sandra appeared in almost 70% of all strips, almost beating her all-time record in 2009. Regarding the supporting characters, Luna has appeared the most often of them three times in a row now.

The frequency of Luna’s appearances is really interesting. Maybe it’s just me, but I notice her way less than other side characters like Ye Thuza or Landon, but she is still in more strips. She’s just a lot around our main crew without demanding focus. A good but quiet friend^^
Random Stats:
– Of the ten years of Sandra and Woo, Sandra has been the most common character in 6 years, Woo in 3 years. The only other one to achieve first? Larisa, in 2016.
– Luna is has the most first place finishes (3) of any side character, with Richard and Sid coming second (2 each)
– There have been 3 side character spikes: Ye Thuza in 2010, Lily in 2013, and Luna in 2015 (not counting Richard’s early comic performance or Sid and Landon’s spikes, which were accompanied by general increased side character activity). Given that there have been 1-2 off years between these spikes, and that we haven’t seen a spike since 2015, the data suggests we’ll get one in 2018. Since every spike comes from a character who appeared the at least the year before, my money is on Yuna.
– Safe bet for 2018’s top 3 side characters: Richard, Luna, and Yuna. Richard has been one of the top 3 side characters every year except 2014 and it’s hard to argue with Luna’s three-year domination. As for Yuna, she may or may not be top 3, but she’s been more consistent than anyone else. Ye Thuza or Landon would also not bad picks over Yuna.
– Despite generally declining appearances, Woo has never appeared fewer times than a side character, and only once dropped out of the top 3 characters overall (2017). Cloud, on the other hand, has been surpassed by side characters in 5 out of 9 years (2012-2016), only rising up again last year.
– Luna is the only major side character to have appeared since 2010
