- Zoey: Stop spreading fake news about the other candidates!
- Larisa: Please don’t be so culturally insensitive! Voter manipulation through alternative news is an integral part of Russian culture!

I get it. Ha ha…
It is so integral in Russia, that they actually had to make it illegal (there is a law for that), and people still do it…
Other counties have done it, Russia just does it *well*.
Zoey! =D
Not all political Sandra&Woo comic strips are good, but this one is really nice with its surprising punchline. – I’m loving it! 😀
Russians gonna Russian.
LOL. Literally. When I read the last bulb, I broke into loud laugh… It’s a good thing that I’m alone!
I *love* Sandra’s pose in the campaign poster.
Now I gotta restart my iOS app software company, the name Quackr is too cool to not use. The icon too.
The german version is even more fun as “fast” means “almost” in German. “Almost News”… nice understatement!
Can confirm.
Was one of the eyewitnesses.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Great work guys, this made me literally lol.
*American culture.
Fixed that for you.
@ *:
That was unwarranted.
I have a friend who appreciates communism (not the part where it ends up dictator-run, thank god,) who will definitely laugh at this.
And American!
I am not sure what is funnier:
That larissa serves a Stereotype about the Russian Government.
Or that she thinks “Cultural Sensitivty” will let her get away with that.
@ *:
Read the rules: No “excessive swearing or insults directed at other users, the creators or the characters”.
I think this counts.
Does this actually happen? That there are campaigns of different people that want to become class rep? I am something like that right now and all I did was reluctantly say “only if nobody else feels inclined to” – which was the case. Who wants to do that? And why? 🙂
Yeah, CNN probably does get half their “news” from Russia or China.
Like a cheap knock off of an actual news agency.
Oh WOW! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

And in the alternate reality where that happens, they’re still more accurate than FOX.
So is altering the computerized voting systems and buying/manipulating the electoral college. I swear, when the Founding Fathers first put that system into place, they had no idea of the damage that would happen with it.
Seems like the author never heard of „ throwing stones in glass houses“. Kinda ironic, baseing a joke on a cheap stereotype about fake news & manipulating opinion, while ignoring that manipulating opinion, regardless of truth, is the goal of propagating said stereotype.
We have always been at war with Oceans. All that water, all that fire-quenching water… Buy Student Council War Bonds!
We hardly need Russians to bombard us with fictitious news stories. Our major media outlets have been doing that to us for decades.
@ Senjiu:
Well, at least for my school this happened more in the younger grades before people realized that the position of class rep and the other positions were namely fill-in title positions of most popular people that didn’t give them any power while forced them to sit through some extra meetings and classes that were a waste of time. At that point there three people running to fill the four positions. I’m not certain if they ever filled that fourth position, I skipped a grade shortly thereafter so it didn’t really concern me. But I do remember cadidate posters and such in middle school, and I think there were a dozen people running for class President in sixth grade, so yea, it does happen, before schools crush the democracy spirit.
… I don’t think I could ever be close friends with Larisa.
I’d forever be worried about the next caper.
And not just Russia, Larisa.
Glad to see her and Zoey again.
As a Russian, I found this pretty hilarious. It’s a shame that voting manipulation is becoming a new Russian stereotype, but eh, what can one do
Also, guys, I’d say we avoid escalating the discussion. Even though the information war is a big problem nowadays, let’s not antagonise each other based on that
LOL! A+++ strip xD
I love how well Zoey and Larisa fit their roles here. And the quacks! Quackr should be a thing.
@ Alexander:
While the comparison with the Holocaust may be a bit harsh, I agree – voter manipulation definitely happens in every system that is (or even just aims or pretends to be) democratic. Now, while I could understand the strip as Larisa simply trying to get away with what she’s doing by claiming a cultural tradition (has she tried that with setting stuff on fire yet? ;)), my first impression of the comic was still that of a distasteful and rude joke, which left a bitter taste in my mouth. The only other interpretation I could think of would be a purposeful insult/propaganda against Russian culture, which would be way worse – but I believe that is not the case. And then I peeked into the comments (intending to express my apallement), saw that most people found it hilarious… and got really depressed. Please tell me that I’ve misunderstood something, that would make me happy. Otherwise, this is probably the worst Sandra and Woo for me, by far.
@ Veyraa:
Don’t you mean Faux… ER…. I mean Fox?
Oh, Larisa, you minx! <3
@ Ora:
It’s multi layered satire, from the best I can tell. Try and spot all the layers.

I really am surprised that so many people complain about this joke and even get as low as Nazi similees. If you are reading the comic for some time, you should know that Novil is anything but racist or nationalist. Aren’t you familiar with the concept of Satire? Or irony? The joke is meant just the other way round as you interpret it. Both claiming that manipulation of public opinion by spreading objectively false facts (I’m not talking about discussing different opinions here, there is a clear difference between disagreeing about a prognosis or about the correct interpretation of an event and outright lying) could be generalized as a cultural trait of a nation and drawing the even more absurd conclusion that this could justify such behavior and put the person at wrong who criticizes it because he doesn’t respect the other person’s national culture is obviously absurd – and that’s the joke. Novil is not making fun of Russians, he is making fun of the stereotype.
I love this strip! It is a delightful combination of Larissa being cool and doing her thing as always, the political satire, and the lovely innocence of the accusations. 🙂
Yeah, see, Larisa, you’re placing yourself with Vladimir Putin, and you’re way cuter, smarter, and all-around better than him!

Also Turkey. Believe me, even though we moved to France, my parents and I still keep tabs on the situation.
Hahaha! Best punchline in a while.
That was laugh-out-loud (see what I spelled there, Gen M?) funny and shakes-head-not-American all at once. Knowing you’re not American, it’s fine; but there are times your observations of our culture are cringe-worthy.
Hey: it happens to all writers! I look forward to your next.
It isn’t nearly as funny when you see the amount of fools falling for it. For years none of the lies spread by various alternate news sites here came true, but they are all keeping people around me worried of smoke and mirrors and got me state representatives composed of frauds, conmen and liars.

but she is about equal to him in terms of general popularity…
I feel like people didn’t get the joke. Both the people who laughed, and the people who were offended. This isn’t some cheap swipe at Russians spreading fake news. This wouldn’t be funny, wouldn’t work with the fake-news-spreader being “one of the good guys”, and besides, almost all news are fake, as has been proven time and time again with journalists being caught red-handed fabricating stories.
The joke is that Larisa uses “cultural insensitivity” as an excuse for her actions. It’s a swipe at the idea that any type of action, no matter how depraved, is justifiable if it’s a part of someone’s culture. This makes the joke doubly clever, because the ones that would normally hold such a view, would also be more likely to believe that Russia is a bigger contributor of fake news than any other source, and be generally against it. In essence, this is turning the tables on them, causing their two beliefs to be in conflict. And that’s the joke.
It’s basically a “choose one” joke, similar to the “Daily Struggle” meme.

Thanks for explaining that so well. Hope the people who didn’t get it read this.
It’s a pity that good political satire needs to be justified nowadays. :-/
So it WAS a group of russian hackers,
that help Trump to get president. 😀

As stated, I found the Nazi parallel overdone as well. I really, really hope that you are right – as you might notice, I never said that I thought it was ill-intended (in fact, I said explicitly that I thought it was not), merely that it turned out wrong. If you look at the other comments – there are also many people who *do* think that it’s a Russian trait and find the joke funny because of *that.* I’m sure Novil doesn’t think so, I’m just afraid that those who are already affected by such absurd propaganda see this as part of it. I wouldn’t find the joke rude if there was no such propaganda around – but we’re swimming in it, ant that’s why we have to be more careful. Just an opinion, I could be wrong.
