[0958] Michelle’s Talk
└ posted on Thursday, 25 January 2018, by Novil
- Poster: Michelle’s Talk – Fair & Balanced
- Michelle: Zoey, are you for or against really hard math tests?
- Zoey: I’m against them, of course.
- Michelle: Taylor, are you for or against the announced price hike on the cafeteria lunches?
- Taylor: Against it!
- Michelle: Sandra, what do you think are possible solutions for the negative implications of the Common Core Standard concerning students with mathematics difficulties?
- Sandra: You call that “fair and balanced”?!
- Zoey: Sandra, that’s really embarrassing! Haven’t you even read Sarah R. Powell’s seminal work on the topic?
Wow… Sandra’s really becoming an allegory for how Trump was treated in the election
Jeez.. I’m with Sandra here. Also, revisions to the Common Core standards in question.

This strip is not about a specific incident or person.
Woo, Taylor’s back! For two panels, BUT STILL! 😀
@ Novil:
If you say so.
But it’s easy to make a Trump comparison due to the allegory a Russian interference with consent form Sandra/Trump is questionable and the clear rigging of debates against Sandra/Trump
Michelle’s angling for a gig with Faux Noise by the look of it.
Meh. The last page was funny but the tendency anymore for absolutely everything to get tied up in a storyline that’s mostly, “Here’s the same joke for the next month,” is honestly making me consider just taking a break from the comic for awhile.
@ Titan:
Difference was trump was given much simpler questions. Even then, they knew his shortcomings.
No Trump please. Else this place will become another field of war.
I wanted to post a link to ‘Reaching The Mountaintop’ but all the articles seem to be behind a paywall.
@ Titan:
You’re joking right?
@ Firedome:
@ Evonix:
Look, I’m just going from what I saw and have heard, especially on the debates. How about we just agree to disagree and not get into a flame war
@ Titan:
More like Clinton. Facts straight. Keep them that way, please.
Clinton was given softballs?
Yeah, alright.
Guys keep it civil. We all know Bernie got the shorthand in this one.
@ Veyraa:
Given her record, she generally got off very lightly.
There is a German Talkshow “hart aber fair”, which is, depending on the person interviewed, very unfair 😉
@ Veyraa:
Actually, Clinton was given the questions in advance, at least during the primary debates. It was quite the scandal when it came out. If she was given them during the debates for the general election, it has yet to be proven.
Okay, it’s difficult to find a great and subtle political joke twice a week. Today more standard fare. So maybe, it’ll be better to leave politics alone. Then at least the commentators don’t get at each others throat! 😉
(Sandra doesn’t look like Trump to me, but I see that for a Trump fan the comic will look like a caricature of poor Trump being bullied all over by evil journalists. – But I beg your understanding that for Trump haters it doesn’t resemble that at all. And then let it be good with that. Please!)
All this political introspection is good, if you keep it to yourself. (wink). As it is arc, this really fits the characters…
Also, Michelle doesn’t have her own broadcast stage? Schools these days !!!

Not interested in debating anything here, you’ve just got me curious… =)
Do you have a reliable source, that has verifiable citations, for that?
Thanatos wrote:
There’s some confusion, but Snopes confirms that Clinton received information about a primary debate against Bernie Sanders.
The confusion comes from the fact people also claimed that she received information before a presidential debate, and Snopes says this is false.
Is Michelle still envious that Sandra is dating Cloud?
Well, I’m not surprised. We already knew Michelle doesn’t like Sandra… specifically, she doesn’t like her because she’s dating Cloud, and she’s jealous.
Why did I go into the comment section? I knew I shouldn’t. I knew, right from when I saw Titan’s comment – I KNEW the horrors and unbelievable things I’d see.
I knew. So why did I still go?
Boo Zoey! Math populism!
You’ll pay for each missed concept, with interest. If the world were to bend to easy ways out, them socialists and dogmatists would long have conquered it.
Ironically her response would Be one possible solution: shouting brings attention, brings funding, brings updated teaching methods.
Totally unfair! Michelle is DATING one of the candidates! And has a long history of harsh word things towards another!
@ Titan:
I think it looks much more like how Fox News treats conservatives and liberals in general.
Looks like someone didn’t like Larissa’s methods from the last page (especially since they were about Zoey)
Trump was also given questions in advance. People would call him to confirm whether questions were okay to be asked. @ Brett Bellmore:
@ Lewser:
Well Any nicer way to put that?
Common Core sucks. It should be abolished. Should there be a standard for education? Of course. Common Core isn’t it and no amount of change to it will fix that. It was never meant to educate. The only way that I can explain what it is supposed to do is to go down a spiral of sinister conspiracy. So I’ll stick with “it sucks and should be abolished.”
The US has no rules or regulations regarding debates. Neither does this school election, with the likely exception that Larissa isn’t allowed to set candidates on fire. But moral and ethical issues aside theres really nothing that says a candidate can’t have answers prior to the debate.
It never occurred to me before, but the comments on this thread suggest the primary / presidential ‘debates’ aren’t debates at all, but merely group interviews.
A debate is a structured argument between two parties, using rhetoric and logic to convince an audience / adjudicator of their respective position.
If you ask candidates different questions, that isn’t a debate.
@ Titan:
…I don’t think Sandra has ever ‘consented’ for stuff like this. She generally doesn’t approval of a lot of Larisa’s shenanigans.
Hard not to see this as a parody of the 2016 US election. Because that is thee quintessential example of modern politics.
That whole thing was a parody of an election, whichever side of the political spectrum you were on. Politics was taken seriously before, because politics is about acting. We were shown a making of documentary, along with a bad actress and the support staff were terrible. Now we see it for what it is, adult babies whingeing about not getting their way, while the winners are adult babies who do not understand what they’re supposed to be doing and screw everything up.
GG Novil, this is a very accurate example of an election.
Wonder when they’ll release another one with richard, he heard the kit talk in the other issue
Jerks
@ BadRoad:
Yes. As Sandra points out, how is THAT Fair and Balanced? I had to blink, and look it over three to four times to get the Layman’s version.
Michelle basically said: “Do you have any ideas That can help students with problems understanding Maths?”, but amped it up to make Sandra look stupid by using big words.
Basically how people like to make Trump look stupid or Mysogenic. I mean, he was a TALK SHOW HOST for years before becoming President! You NEED to be smart and Charismatic to become one! But people like to forget That!
In between strained political arguments, I wonder if anyone has told Ms. Powell she ended up in a webcomic.
