[1011] The Truth Hurts

Our yearly Gaia artwork contest has started! The Sandra and Woo artwork contest will follow later this year. The prize money for the Gaia artwork contest is $750! So don’t miss your chance to become one of the winners!
- Sandra: But you’re a raccoon! A rascal, a little bandit…!
- Woo: I’m sorry, Sandra.
- Sandra: All right… maybe you’re right. Winning by cheating wouldn’t feel right.
- Larisa: The correct answer would have been 65 days. Zoey’s closer, so she wins this round!
- Sign: 75 days
- Sign: 70 days
- Sandra: Losing, of course, doesn’t feel much better.
- Larisa: The next discipline is beach volleyball!
Yay 😀 Zoey won a round and Woo proved to be a morally upstanding racoon.
Come on, Sandra, stereotypes aren’t going to make your case any stronger.
Woo’s just saying this because he’s really bad at maths and doesn’t actually know which number’s the right one
This little bit of characterization does seem surprising. I wonder if this is setting up for something.
Good job Zoey! Let’s hope she wins beach volleyball too
I don’t think he knows.
We haven’t seen much Volleyball before, so this should be exciting.
Also, if I’m correct this is the fourth longest arc and should become the third longest in a few strips. If it ends where I think it’s going to end, it could possibly be sort of second place, but not really.
methinks Woo is just testing Sandra’s knowledge on raccoons.
JUMP THE SHARK !
Woo as moralizer; that is out of character!
It seems this is the point where Sandra and Woo jump the shark.
Woo could give Sandra an answer; but a wrong one.
Because he is male, and mix this female things up.
That had been funny, and in character.
Happy days aired 5 more yerars after the jump the shark episode.
So let’s see how long Sandra and Woo will continue.
Yay! Go, Zoey! Looks like that preparation work paid off. 🙂
Beach volleyball ?? Yes!!
Beach volleyball . . . in bikinis . . .
This has to be Cloud’s fondest dream!
I feel like this strip is completely lacking the part where Woo explains where this newfound set of morals comes from. I’m leaning towards agreeing with @ poko somewhat, as this seems to come out of nowhere, and Sandra’s lines are practically lampshading at this point.
Plus, no explanation as to how Zoey won this from a draw. THAT would have been a point that deserved a lampshade, at least.
@ AnotherBear:
Isn’t beach volleyball always in bikinis tho?
@ SlugFiller:
It could be that Zoey actually has 5 points but she has not yet flicked the five over to update her score display.
Good on Sandra. I would have felt VERY bad for Zoey if Sandra had cheated to win. Just let Zoey have this one!
@ SlugFiller:
That’s a good point. I think it could easily be corrected if say, the last question was actually worth two points and Zoey’s score was edited to a “5”.
Where is the extra point for the funniest face?!?
Brijeka Vervix wrote:
Not always. I’m pretty sure the guys just wear trunks. 😉
Sandra was up 4-3, but Zoey got the previous question right, so they were tied 4-4 going into the final round.
@ SlugFiller:
It’s not won from a draw. The point gets added after that. The panel shows the actual points. So she won 5:4.
Losing sucks but just get over with it, unless you bet your own life and lose that too…then it wouldn’t matter in the end, you’re already dead anyway!
@ Wizard:
Zoey got her fourth point in strip 1009.
One of them wants to live good (that’s Sandra), the other wnats to triumph with the other in humiliation (that’s Zoey).
So who’re we cheering here and why?
The moral road with Woo is somewhat puzzling indeed. I’m interested as to where all this goes.
The larger implications of the story is that Sandra can’t beat Zoey without cheating, and Zoey’s become obsessive enough over beating Sandra that she’s actually spent time studying something she didn’t care about just to slight her. It’s just an unhealthy relationship all around.
@ MidoriLuna:
Sandra won the minigolf course fair and square, as far as we can tell. And Zoey “cheated” in waterpolo as well, by grabbing Sandra’s hair, so there’s that.
Also, jokes.
A lesson in integrity.
Wait, who won the face contest?
@ poko:
Maybe this is the moment in which Woo is caught speaking English in front of the public!
Fortunately, the US Government is no match for a god!

Personally, I would like to see a draw in which Sandra and Zoey band together against Larisa and Taylor in order to prevent some sort of fiery death.
@ Fex:
Wasn’t Sandra “cheating” in the water polo too?
Looking at the big picture, Zoey could definitely use this win more than Sandra. As the main character of the comic, Sandra’s life is considerably more blessed. She’s dating the love of her life, has a best friend who can do practically anything with little-to-no consequences, and any serious obstacles they encounter are often resolved through a goofy deus ex machina.
Zoey, on the other hand, lives a much more realistic existence, she was sharply rejected by her crush, and her friendship with Michelle has appeared to be strained since that incident, she suffers over-the-top retribution from Larisa for fairly average bullying tactics against Sandra, and we don’t really know very much about her, other than the fact that she is a normal person in a bizarre world.
Heck, the last major arc before this, she lost to Sandra and Michelle chose not to support her for unknown reasons. Given all of that, I think Zoey’s antagonism is somewhat justified and this win would mean more to her than it would to Sandra, who has only had her pride wounded, and she is partially to blame since she set herself up for it.
At least Sandra has the knowledge she didn’t cheat.
“Better to lose with honor than win by cheating.”
The next one ought to be good.
Beach volleyball 1 vs 1? That’s gonna be tricky!
@ Brijeka Vervix:
Yeah. They were both cheating all over the place.
Sometimes i kinda forget that only Sandra Knows that Woo can talk XD

Good point. The usual game is 2 x 2.
When it comes to returing the favor she doesn’t have to help you too.
