In the comment section, we also discuss the new mixtape (aka trailer) for Final Fantasy VII Remake dropped by SquareEnix on YouTube.
There is also a longer gameplay trailer that explains the combat system in detail.
- Alexander: Hey, girls, I just dropped my new mixtape. It’s fire!
- Zoey: Isn’t Alexander just gorgeous?!
- Michelle: I thought you were only into girls…?
- Zoey: There’s a solution for every problem!

I’m very fond of most parts of the new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake. It looks like SquareEnix has found a solid formula for bringing the game to the standards of the 2020s. Aeris’ design is particularly breathtaking. It couldn’t have been any better in my eyes. However, as a huge Tifa fanboy, I’m a bit sad that Tifa’s design doesn’t have the “Wow!” factor of Aeris’ design. She looks good, but her design just doesn’t look completely seamless.
I’m quite confident that we can look forward to a faithful adaption without the overly moody atmosphere of the mediocre Advent Children movie.
@ Novil:
Personally, I’m rather surprised Tifa’s daring to address the elephant in the room. “Maybe blowing up an energy plant full of punchclock employees which thousands of people depend on to live makes us bad guys.”
@ Novil:
Haven’t really paid attention to it since they told that they’d make it a run-around-tap-to-hack like the newer FFs and that they’re going to “address the cultural inappropriation” of Barret’s character (also the bulky Blade-vampire look they were giving him…).
They still at it or have they actually decided to give the fans a real game the said fans can enjoy instead of just another FF15?
Funny looking “tape”. 😛
Further confirmation that Michelle is okay with her best friend being into girls, as per the Zoey/Julia arc. I guess her disgusted initial reaction after Zoey kissed her (Strip 520), and her subsequent weirded-out reaction when alone (Strip 529) eventually gave way to acceptance. That’s cool.
Also… Zoey, I think you’d only need one of those tools. And something for cauterizing after you’re done. (Please note: I in no way actually endorse the removal of a man’s, er, social construct.)
Michelle sure knows how to hide a sweatdrop.
@ Alice Macher:
Well, she does know Larisa, so…
Maybe Zoey is a closet bi.
@ Mount C:
‘Mixtape’ is probably the name of the software used to make it.
Or maybe Zoey… you’re just Straight for him
i am both impressed and horrified by her solution
Looks likes Zoey’s taken Professor Cambridge’s lessons to heart.
(note her plans for gender equality in panel 3 )
@ TheRedWizard:
Bleh, the link didn’t work. Here: http://www.sandraandwoo.com/2014/07/31/0603-puff/
Ok so she is aware… I don’t know what is going on anymore…
I question the wisdom of false-fire marketing to Larisa. Snip and tuck might be his least problem.
Huh. I was expecting the solution to be using that twitstergram filter that turns one’s image to the opposite gender. Maybe she uses that for his top half, because drills and scissors alone can’t easily add… ahem… material.
Quick Alexander run!
zoey… zoey…
reminds me of an actual crime that happened to ours several months ago.
@ Novil:
I just wanna see what Red XIII looks/sounds like. I can’t wait to see the scene where Hojo tries to get him and Aerith (Yes I say Aerith cause that’s what she’s called in spin off material like Kingdom Hearts.) to breed. I also really hope the remake doesn’t continue the trend of making Aerith out to be incorruptible angel like the rest of the compilation. Am I the only one who remembers the time she threatened to rip a dudes balls off?
And even though Larissa is present, Zoey will be taking on her personality, though keeping her sexual orientation.

I’ll have to see how it works out. Since it does not anymore have ‘comic’ graphics, the more “mature’ graphics could affect the perception of the story & characters.
Honestly surprised the last panel didn’t show Larisa burning the CD and saying “NOW it’s fire.” Not that she disapproves of the music – she hasn’t even heard it yet – she’s just offended by Alexander calling something fire that clearly isn’t actual literal fire.
Doesn’t Zoey have a girlfriend now?
Concerning the comic, of course it is funny/absurd that the first idea is not to change your preferences but to forcibly cut off body parts.
I mean, you could just be mature & accept that someone is male/female. I could understand it if people were complaining because they have a genetic disease, are sick or extremely ugly. In such serious cases it would make sense if someone feels he is in the ‘wrong’ body.
Anytime I see people being pissy about the Tifa changes, I just imagine hungry, crying, babies .
Also Zoey is excedingly scary. Do I have to get the bad kitty bottle on you Zoey?
Meh. I’ll believe the remake when I see it. Been jaded ever since they first showed a trailer for a FF7 remake 15 years ago when selling their PS3…
@ Arent: Or you could just be mature and accept that there are aspects of sex and gender beyond your understanding and stop wasting everyone’s time trying to tell trans people not to transition.
Gonna be honest. As a queer person, more specifically a bi trans woman, this is… highly questionable at best. Like… it’s not absolutely horrendous, and unless asked to elaborate I won’t make any more of a fuss about it than this comment. But. There are some things you gotta handle with extreme care, you know? I don’t know much about you, but I will say that if you aren’t LGBT+, this makes me mighty uncomfortable.
No more Zoelia?

I’m a natural scientist. It is highly unlikely that you are more clever than I am 😉
But let’s try to be a little less childish and insulting, would that be possible?
There are some ideologues out there who simply cannot accept the existence of x & y chromosomes. Natural science always clashes with ideologies/religions that is nothing new. In the case of equality, there are some people who take the idea to such extremes that they can’t even accept differences between the genders.
That’s why they claim the word “sex” or “gender” would “in truth” not refer to xx or xy chromosomes, but instead to sexual behavior. Which it simply doesn’t – sexual behavior is sexual behavior and sex is sex.
By the way, we are talking here about a lesbian, not about a transsexual. She wants to turn alexander into a girl instead of admitting that she is obviously bisexual. Which is actually quite funny.
The big fake news in your comment is the claim that there would be a possibility to become a functional male or female. But we simply lack the biotechnology to do that.

It wasn’t so much that advent children was ‘moody’, but that it was too exaggerated. Especially the adversaries were a little funny & weird & the dialogues were cringy.
Let her be attracted to whom she wants, for pete’s sake.
All these discussions about gender and sexuality and transand all this crap should summarize into two simple questions: is everyone inside situation ok with this? Is she harming anyone?
If the answer is “yes and no”, it’s nobody’s business who anyone likes or hugs or kisses or fondle or anything else in this line of thought. Jesus.
@ Novil: i lost my faith in Square and in most of the Videogame industry in the last 5 years, i dont expect nothing anymore
@ Trimutius:
Her stalker outed her to the entire school, didn’t he? They probably talked about it and got things straight (no pun intended) at this point.
I much prefer Willow’s approach to this problem: four candles, a bowl, a bunch of crystals, and a rhyming incantation.
“O Hecate, I call on you.
I humbly ask your will be done.
Hear my request, a simple change
Create a daughter from a son.”
There is a word “pansexual.”
It’s about physical attractiveness to a Greek God Pan.
Remember, kids: It’s okay to be bi!
While I do think this is funny (in a cringe-and-protect-my-nether-regions sort of way), I also think this is an opportunity to play a variation on my favorite game. Imagine if Zoey were a guy who was very straight, and change nothing else about this comic.
@ Z:
I never get to the comments section, but this strip got me Really uncomfortable…
I mean, she could just be Bi, but that joke do have a “I’ll change his body to mach my desires” that do sounds transfobic….
idk, just uncomfortable.
@ Arent:
It’s so cute that you still believe in that interpretation of XX/XY chromosomes! Tell me, do you still believe in the geocentric model of the solar system, too? Ooh, or how about that bears are born shapeless and licked into bear shapes by their mothers?
There is plenty of genuine scientific evidence that XX or XY chromosomes, far from being the only pairings, for one thing, don’t have as much bearing on sex or gender as once believed.
@ Arent:
I’m sorry your education failed you this badly. Gender is a construct, my dude. People can have all kinds of chromosome combinations and express those genes differently. Intersex people are about as common as, say, redheads. There are any number of conditions which result in people with XX having “male” bodies and people with XY having “female” bodies. If you wish to inform yourself about this, Google is free.
But the issue with your attitude is deeper than a mere question of fact. Gender expression is simply a set of stereotypes that one chooses to adhere to. Those stereotypes change over time. Pink used to be a masculine color. Children of both sexes wore dresses. High heels were invented for men. In short, a person who chooses to adhere to the stereotypes of the gender they did not grow up as (or adhere to no stereotypes at all!) can be considered transgender, if they do choose that label.
No one is trying to say that gender is based on sexual orientation. Like, emphatically not so. Gender identity is not inherently sexual, and neither for that matter is one’s orientation. There are gay trans kids. They aren’t NSFW. They simply are.
Also, what on earth is a “functional” male or female? Are infertile cis women not women? Are cis men who’ve had vasectomies not men? If you refer to reproduction, than certainly a trans woman capable of carrying a child is a woman. They exist!
It is my hope that, as a self-proclaimed scientist, you would always be on guard against ancient prejudices affecting scientific discovery. Not that ancient in this case, actually. Only in the last few centuries. Most every ancient culture had trans folks. This is another easily Googled fact. Science does not and has never existed in a cultural vacuum.
In truth, I do not expect you to be swayed by anything I have said. However, I would be quite delighted if you did take the opportunity to expand your knowledge of the world! That should be everyone’s goal. If you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. But I do not make a habit of wasting my time arguing with misinformed folks on the Internet. I ain’t got the energy for that, and it isn’t my responsibility. I just wanted to make clear to any young trans or questioning folks out there that this guy isn’t the only voice you’ll hear. Far from it. These days, more and more people are coming to understand that the world is far too strange for such silly concepts as a strict gender binary.

It’s cute that you try to educate me about my field of research. So, please tell me how X & Y chromosomes have no bearing on sex. I’m getting popcorn before I start laughing.
Oh god, I died. A DRILL. That’s next level stuff. 10/10
@ LucienCMO:
Yeah, well. Forcing somebody to undergo gender change operation IS awful. But transphobic? Are you sure? Because one of the main talking points of actual transphobes is how the eevil is forcing people to undergo gender change operations.
Regular reader, first time commenting. This strip does come across badly with regards to trans people, playing into the “mutilation” stereotype that many people have had leveraged against them in deeply harmful ways. I hope that this is an opener to a more nuanced discussion of gender, because a cheap “dick cut off” gag seems tasteless (particularly during Pride Month).
@ kazekoichi:
I thought that meant sexual attraction to kitchen utilities. The more you know…
@ Arent:
from the abstract of a paper by a real scientist: “A 46,XY mother who developed as a normal woman underwent spontaneous puberty, reached menarche, menstruated regularly, experienced two unassisted pregnancies, and gave birth to a 46,XY daughter with complete gonadal dysgenesis.”
@ Arent:
Think about it this way: what is the practical effect of sex/gender?
The practical effect of your chromosomes is mostly indirect. What actually has immediate effect on you – on your body, on your mind, on your behavior – is your HORMONES. So you may wish to define sex as based on one’s genetics, but I would argue such definition is simply IMPRACTICAL.
Now come the caveats.
Caveat 1: we as humanity know very little about our own hormones. Ask every person with Hashimoto’s disease. They can testify on this. This means that the hormone replacement therapies we have are actually all kinds of terrible. In other words, I agree that “we simply lack the biotechnology to do that.”
Caveat 2: thus I 100% agree that it’s best if you can feel comfortable with what you have. Unfortunately those with gender dysphoria are unable to do that. So in such extremely rare cases doctors should do their best with the technologies we currently have.

Z wrote:
You can’t just say the earth is flat, you have to prove your statements.
No they can’t. Most chromosome combinations would kill you. At best, there are rare cases of XXY or similar, which results in serious health problems, genetic diseases and infertility.
What you are talking about is sexual or role behavior. The only true example you could offer would be hermaphrodites. But you don’t want to talk about such cases, because that would destroy your claim.
Z wrote:
You are just talking about behavior, not about gender. You are trying to redefine the word “gender” because you want that behavior should determine gender instead of genetics.
Well, it isn’t. That’s what I’m saying. Being gay doesn’t make you a female. Enjoying an RPG as a female character doesn’t change your gender.
You can already transplant an uterus into a animal. That doesn’t make an animal a human or a female or a male. If you transplant an uterus into a male he is a male with an uterus.
If you change the y chromosomes into x chromosomes you have a female.
The problem is that it is completely natural that there are feminine men & masculine women. Nature has good reasons for this, it would be boring if everyone would be a masculine man & everyone a feminine woman.
Guys like you tell such people that something would be “wrong” with them, although there isn’t. They are perfectly fine as they are.
Grace wrote:
Obviously that Y chromosome is defect.
Could you please provide the link to that paper? Such cases are very interesting to identify the regions you need to shut down to allow males producing functional egg cells.
