[1099] Victim Blaming
└ posted on Thursday, 18 July 2019, by Novil
You can tell that this story is happening in a fantasy world by the fact that Germans are still good in football in it. 🙁
- Richard: Sandra?! What happened?
- Sandra: We got beat up by the Germans, badly!
- Sandra: These animals knew no mercy! Even when we were already lying on the ground, they kept going! Strike after strike!
- Sandra: Luna was crying so much. It was horrible.
- Richard: I told you not to play soccer against the Germans. But did you listen…?! No!
- Sandra: Seventeen-nil!
- Girl: gg ez no re
17? It’s possible for numbers to go that high in soccer?

The Women’s World Cup had a 13-0 match, US vs. Thailand. So there’s precedent.

Luna kept trying to draw fouls?

With enough incentive, yes. There have been games where a certain team HAD to win with like 10+ goals in order to qualify for whatever tournament it was.
Being German is incentive enough, tho.
Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win. Gary Lineker

Not to rain on anyones parade. But who won the women’s cup in soccer? (drops mic)
In a country recently named “Western Makedonia”, 30+ years ago (when it was a part of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia), in the last round of a competition in the 3rd republican league (or similar), two teams lead a table with the same points. Both played at home at the last round, both excepted to win, and it was clear that a goal-diference will decide who won the first place and qualified to play in the 2nd leauge nxt season.
So, one of teams won with a result something as 87-0, but it was not enough, for the other won 102-0 or so.
Yes, it happened in reality, not in comics!
@ John:
However, my little country once eliminated Germany on the World chanpionship with a result 3-0. In your face, Novil, you looser!
South Korean 2 / Germany 0
Take that you sausage eaters.
GG EZ NO RE?
@ All-Purpose Guru:
GG = good game
EZ = easy
No RE = no rematch
@ All-Purpose Guru:
GG = Good Game. EZ = Easy, as in that win was easy. NO RE = No replay, as in you will not get a second attempt.
@ All-Purpose Guru:
According to the top-rated answer on UrbanDictionary.com, it stands for “Good game, it was easy, no rematch,” a way of insulting players on the opposing team.
Were there boys on Sandra team? Because if so then Germany kicking the asses of the American team would make sense. The girls can only carry so much, they’re not miracle workers.
I played soccer twice in 1965. Our high school coach explained the basics. Then, walked away. Didn’t tell us we couldn’t tackle. The second time, we played according to the rules. After that, I played American football and rugby. Give blood, play rugby.
I haven’t played soccer since elementary school. At recess a bunch of kids (all sizes, mostly boys, but some girls) would gather on an improvised soccer field and kick the ball around and try to steal it from each other and kick it through the goal posts. There were no rules beyond not using your hands, players switched sides all the time, and the score was always in dispute. It was great!
Aw, lookit the cute little German biscuit! So adorable!
Ehm. We’re talking about WOMEN’s (or girls’) soccer.
USA just won the world cup without much trouble. Germany played “OK” but there wasn’t any realistic hope for the title, they were defeated in the quarter finals.
Sandra’s team should have wiped the floor with those amateurs.
@ Thisguy:
Well, there was a Game of soccer between the national teams of Australia and American-Samoa, where American-Samoa lost with an incredible 31-0.
So, yes this is possible.
Jeez, that title and that description…
Novil I think you’ve reached peak savagery here.
That reminds me of 2014’s men semi final, best expressed here :

17-0 is highly unlikely. Everybody knows the Germans wait till the last minutes to secure the win.
@ clickbait:
Hmm.not really sensible…
While US has a larger population and can statistically field better top level player at sn international competition as soccer is a way more played game in Germany the average German kid would probably be better than the average US kid. On top of that there is the fact that this event is probably what CAUSED the US team to be that good, as a reaction to that shame…
@ Xan:
Senior International record is 31-0 – Australia d American Samoa in 2001
The only problem I have with this is that here (Denmark), girl football is… not a thing. While I’m not German, I think the same is the case there. America is quite the outlier in having girl soccer. Girls play handball here.
So if both teams were girls… I’m reasonably sure the Americans would utterly *trounce* Europeans.

Men’s soccer and women’s are totally different in one very important way.
Many countries like Brazil or Argentina with a long successful history in the male version of the sport invest almost zero resources in a competitive female national team. Other countries like Germany or Japan invest in both their male and female teams – using varying resources and with varying success …
Then there’s the US where “male” soccer isn’t really all that popular but the women have been very successful in the past and so there’s enough interest and thus resources for supporting a very competitive team.
Greg H wrote:
Note that soccer is a niche sport in Australia. The most popular football is Australian rules and rugby is played in a couple of states (why?).
Daniel Holm wrote:
The german women’s team is fairly strong and has won the WC in the past. There is a lot more attention on the men than on the women still, but it’s definitely a thing here.
Also, many here seem to assume that only girls/women played because it shows Sandra and the german girl, but it could easily be mixed.
Germans don’t play around with soccer.
Fussball ist krieg, you know?
clickbait wrote:
Of course this is again mocking at a cliche that Germans were generally good at scoccer, which of course isn’t true (although the German professional Teams Overall have been performing good throughout the history of the FIFA and won the world Cup several times), but scoccer is much more popular also as an amateur game for teenagers in Germany than it is in the U.S. Football is taught in German Phys Ed at school and for the senior years there are often project courses that focus solely on scoccer for phys ed. Also, many German Youngsters play in Amateur scoccer teams of their local sports club. So if you pitch some random German Teens and some random US Teens against each other in a scoccer match, there would indeed be a much higher probability that the German team would have at least a few members who have some serious skill at scoccer than the US team. For Baseball or American Football, it would obviously be the other way round.
JIneapple wrote:
While scoccer is much more popular as a men Sport than a women Sport in Germany, too, there are quite a number of Girls who are into scoccer here and the female German pro Teams are fairly strong. Since the founding in 1991, the US has won the women’s world Cup four times, Germany won 2 times.
1: It’s called Football. Learn English, ya dumb Yank.
2: German team best in the world. Which is why the 1966 world cup is so important.
@ Thisguy:
If you’ve got no slaughter rule, yes. Saw a youth game go up to 15 in just the first half; the losing team surrendered because their district didn’t have a slaughter rule.
Given the Women’s World Cup results this year, this might have played better if it had been Cloud and chums who got thrashed by the Germans, but this whole arc seems to be exclusively from Sandra’s POV. Maybe this is all a dream Sandra is having. (Yes, obviously this is a comic with a talking raccoon, etc., but humor usually depends on only certain expectations being broken to generate surprise. If too many expectations are broken, surprise degrades to confusion because the audience can’t develop any expectations at all.)
Then again, Ye Thuza might be more annoyed about Cloud losing than Richard seems to be….
@ Hegel Marx:
The quote is from an English player. Accurate enough for that context.
Sing 10 German bombers all you want. Or chant “Two World Wars And one World Cup.” Recent history hasn’t been all that great for the Three Lions.

Not currently, I’m afraid. Women supposedly rank 2nd (but didn’t quite live up to that during the 2019 world cup), the current FIFA ranking for men lists Germany at ELVEN and they played even worse during the 2018 world cup.
England ./. Germany tends to be very balanced, fair and high classed. In the past we had just a bit more luck in most of these matches.
By the way: Germany ./. Italy tends to result in an Italian victory. Regardless of which team is supposedly better at the time of the match.
Hahahahah, look what we had in today’s episode of Machikado Mazoku: https://fufufu.moe/a/src/1563472355155.png

7:1 was the result of Germany vs. Brazil in the WM of 2014. The Brazilian Team is known to be one of the best in the world and the tournament was in THEIR country. So they were really shocked about the result (I have heard that “7:1” became some kind of swear word in Brazil later on).
@ DaB.:
Yeah, I was just pointing out the reason the specific number “17” was chosen 🙂
@ Thisguy:
I once saw a “friendly” game between Brazil and Ecuador reach 20-8. The ref had ordered additional time when they were 10-6 (the TV crew had to apologize while the graphics team tried to figure out how to fit a 2-digit number in the score box) but called the game off actually before the 90 minutes were up
This arc would have been better before the recent World Cup (Russia 2018). First time not leaving group for Die Mannschaft. I still can’t belive we let them come back. They bascially confirmed they are not Germans on the field.
@ Brian:
They certainly weren’t “the mistake free Mannschaft” in 2018.

that 149-0 was 149 home goals (they were protesting about some of the decisions the ref made in their last game)

Sorry, I had to do it. The “Western” thing was just too tempting.
