[1163] Gurūpuhagu!
└ posted on Thursday, 19 March 2020, by Novil
- Sandra: Goodbye, dad! Goodbye, Hitomi!
- Hitomi: Sayōnara!
- Hitomi: Your daughter is very nice!
- Richard: She’s an angel!
- Hitomi: And raccoon almost as kawaii as kitten!
- Hitomi: Would you also like to talk to wife or is she still on work?
- Richard: Uhh, my wife died… six years ago.
- Hitomi: Oh no-no-no-no! Hitomi is very sorry for making you remember bad thing!
- Richard: No problem!
- Hitomi: Hitomi will make you feel better again! Gurūpuhagu!
- Hitomi: Feel better?
- Richard: Ha ha, yes.
“Group hug”. Very cute, and this comic seems to indicate that the guy from last comic is Hitomi’s father. Kind of curious how old she is given the appearance of what seems to be a younger sister.
In any case, hope things go well for Richard and Hitomi: it would be nice for Sandra to have a catgirl maid stepmother from Japan. We’ve got quite the oddball cast already so what’s one more?
@ Name:
I couldn’t have said it better myself. This is incredibly heartwarming and I can only hope it will end even better than it is right now~
well now we’ve sen her whole family, so looks like she’s still staying with her mom, dad, and younger sister.
now i’m curious how old she is.
グループハグ!
I don’t really think that Hitomi and Richard would work in a relationship since, you know, she lives and works in Japan and all that. But this is a webcomic with a talking raccoon, so who knows? Richard might just get a catgirl maid waifu!
Well, from Americo-Euro eyes, Japanese seem to not age at the same rate as, say, blonds or redheads do so the parents could well be in their late 40’s or early 50’s which could put Hitomi into grad school. I remember leaving for college when my younger sister was starting kindergarten so this gurupuhugu is quite believable.

seconded. fingers crossed!
Oh, of course. Hitomi would have an internet connection at home, so Richard would have the foresight to webchat with Sandra and preempt the possible call (and thus avert the roaming charges) that would result from daughter’s instinct. I’m choosing to blame my failure to foresee this on the fact that I had to cancel my home internet connection some months ago.
@ oledakaajel:
well it wouldn’t have to be an immediate thing. perhaps they’ll do the long-distance friendship thing for awhile first.
Richard, rig, ring now Richard, ring attack
Social distancing, media panic on contact, work shutdown, etc.

So my sister in law lives with me. So does my mother in law. In Asia this is not unheard of.
This could be Hitomi’s brother and Sister-in-law or vice versa. That would be her niece.
D’awwww! 😀
@ glitterboy2098:
Is Japan she could be in her mid 30’s Multiple generations living in the same house is normal there.

I figure the lower end would be around 16, since she has a job, putting the range from 16 – mid-30s. My impression is she’s near the young end of the range, but out of high school, so probably around 18 – 20.
This strip ends with a very nice group hug with a sad father…and today (here in Italy) is the Father’s Day…it can’t published in a better day!
ps: Sandra needs a mom again, before becaming a wife when adult, I vote pro to another* international marriage in “Sandra And Woo”!
( *remember Cloud mother ! )
So this one’s set in 2012?
@ glitterboy2098:
Or, she could, over time, she could become an older sister to Sandra?
Since Japan really isn’t the most hugging country in the world, this is eighter strange or they really like him ^^
Hitomi is so the right kind of caring that would be perfect for Richard. I think he needs and would do well with someone like her. Of course I’m a romantic and love seeing nice people get together in what you just know would be an awesome and sooo loving relationship… I’m running on ahead at 1000 miles an hour (did you hear the sonic boom?) but it would be awesome! 3 thumbs up for a Richard/Hitomi shipping (one more thumb than I have so help me out everyone!!!
And super awesome special fun and cute group hug! My heart is glowing from that crushing feeling as in crushing on Hitomi. I fall in love so easily…*sigh*. Hug me.
Cute family, Hitomi appears, in the last block, to have different look towards Richard. Appraising him as a possible mate.

You have a very good point, there.

And I’d say Richard has a different look towards Hitomi as well…

It’s cartoon/comic logic: The world gets older, but characters stay the same age.
I just got back into Folding@Home and found the Sandra and Woo team still exists…but no one has been contributing toward its score in some time.
It’s been almost two years since anyone has contributed.

Welp. Now I’m on the shipping train too.
Always a joy to get a hug from a furry. Group hugs are even better.
So Richard is testing the waters to see how Sandra would react to Hitomi. And Hitomi just now finds out he is single. Next strips will be about them both being too shy to admit they like eachother probably. 🙂
I had to read what Hitomi said in the fifth panel a couple of times to figure out what she said. I keep forgetting that Japan will take English words and phrases and give them Japanese pronunciations.
SHE SINGLE!!!! I repeat she looks single!!! Richard grab your new wifu and run for the sun set!!!
@ Metal cloud:
Sunrise. North America is east of Japan. (Although commercial flights actually go over the arctic rather than following the parallels.)
And, hey, bonus, she’s not a pruner wielding black widow with a thing against good bracket configuration.
And again, nothing is showing on Folding@Home yet, (not even my computer, which has been grinding again since last night,) Get back in and set your computer towards helping crack CoVid-19.

Prior to last night, the team has been idle for 21 months or thereabout, (last confirmed work submitted 2018-06-14 22:17:56).
I do find the entire group hug adorable, though that sense is somewhat tempered by how seldom I’ve seen Japanese people engage in large displays of affection in public. Naturally, they’re in their own home, so that’s already an extenuating circumstance, but for Richard to be included, they must be very taken by him. Future son in law or possibly future study abroad host?

Or B followed by A?
@ AnotherBear:
Err, considering how rare it is for Japanese fathers to hug their sons… I don’t think either scenario, or that last panel, is even remotely probable…
Metal cloud wrote:
It depends on how traditional Hitomi’s family is. Most (95+%) Japanese families frown on their children marrying non-Japanese.

Some people are guessing younger sister, but it could be Hitomi’s daughter, depending on Hitomi’s age, if Hitomi is a single mother much like Richard is a single father. Hitomi does seem young, but mainly because of how she acts. She could be around Richard’s age. I hope that is the case if they are paired up (people seem quite taken with this idea, though I’m not sure where it came from) as it would be a bit problematic if she is 18-20 as another commenter guesstimated.
Myth wrote:
I don’t see a problem. Sandra is in middle school so it’s unlikely that Richard is much past 35. A fifteen year difference is not that uncommon. Go for it, Rich!
On the other hand, if Hitomi is a single mom, then Sandra gets a new sister and Woo had a new pet. Win-win either way.
Not recommended during corona virus pandemic..

‘the coronavirus’ or COVID-19. One is the pathogen, the other the disease.
Well that was adorable.
