I was just thinking the same thing!
It would make sense. Richard repays her by letting her live with them. That way the strip gains some wacky maid/cat girl hi-jinks without a Hitomi/Richard matchup. Or it just has fun showing Sara get jealous every time she catches Cloud looking at Hitomi.

Good, good. Now go and comfort her, in her time of need.
We will get our ship yet. Even if we have to burn ALL opposing Fleets to do so.
WE SHALL NOT BE DENIED!!!!’
I bet he’s forced in an omiai in the near future.
@ Kazuma Taichi:
“Or generally aromantic.”
There’s deodorants for that.
He seems rather composed about the whole thing, so I’d venture to guess that it falls into one of the “lack of interest” categories, rather than “tragically unable to pursue the relationship”.

Aww, poor girl…
…Richard, you had better hug her within the next five strips!
Probably a transfer student soon?
Honestly, this arc has been pretty stifling for me. Or like, lately we just seem to see lotsa extreme caricatures of groups or current events, and not much storytelling at the ground level, ya know? Like, Hitomi is in this weird in-between ground where she’s a walking parody of akiba maid cafe girls, but also in a love-interest role (unless the comments are just reading too into it).
Actually its probably just seeing the cringey dialogue that’s the pet peeve twisting a stake into my native-speaking half-japanese heart. That pidgin anime japanese hurts, but I guess it can’t be helped if you don’t speak it. But man, if you’re gonna go that route at least keep it full absurd parody instead of going for feels, can’t take a damn thing seriously that comes out of her mouth. D;
Speculation is fun, but I feel people are latching onto the guy’s sexuality a bit too hard. It makes me a bit uncomfortable when people seem all-too-ready to get excited over a physical quality that’s mostly unimportant.
@ orio:
Have you read Sandra and Woo? At all? Comedy->feels->comedy is what this comic does.
At least we know two things now: Hitomi is apparently single and interested in meeting a man, and Richards finds her “so cute”. Even if Novil can have anything in store for us, these are two questions which I am glad to see answered. 🙂
