[1198] Hollow Earth

- Hitomi: Hitomi is sad that Richard isn’t happy to see her again…
- Richard: No, sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. It was just so… unexpected!
- Richard: I’m happy to see you again!
- Hitomi: We’ll have lots of fun! … And if not, Hitomi can always go back.
- Anchorman: … experts now predict that we’ll reach 500 million new covid-19 infections per day by September.
- Anchorman: All flights in and out of the United States have been cancelled. Even the tunnels to the secret caverns below the South Pole have been sealed off!
- Hitomi: Or maybe not.
I’ve actually reacted like that once after a girl crossed the country, a rather costly and lengthy thing to do, just to spend time together again, without having first told anything to me about her plan to do so.
I genuinely can understand how my reaction could have felt disheartening to her, but that was merely because I’m logical first and I had a panic attack with everything that could go wrong, mostly for her.
I was genuinely happiest man on Earth that she was there with me, after that initial reaction of panic faded.
In other words, I identify with Richard so much, here. (Well, I wasn’t a dad then, and I’ve never been a single dad, nor a dad of a teen. But, y’know).
500 Million a day? I’d call Fake News, but they failed to say “Orange Man Bad”
We know the ship has sailed, she know the ship has sailed. Now we just need Richard to seal the deal.
Now, of course, they must create a lightbulb-powering cake.
Man, I was going to say, dude has a girl that he really did enjoy being around, and she crossed the world to be with him. Richard does not know how lucky he is.
Cute! But now Sandra sees her world beginning to turn upside down… I am looking forward to Ye Thuza’s reaction as well. And I wonder what Hitomi will say about the strange woman with the katana? Interesting developments ahead… 🙂
Richard seems to have forgotten about Sandra.
Yay! Hitomi has a sidebar tag now!
I’m impressed that Novil knows about the caverns. They aren’t technically secret, (The tunnels were, though.) having been first reported by Dr. William Dyer in the early 20th century. But it’s only recently that publicly reported exploration has resumed.
Antarctica’s Hidden Caves Could Be Home to ‘New World’ of Plants and Animals
I’m telling you, guys… This is the beginning of the end. I see tough times ahead! 😕
Are those nascent love bubbles forming in panel two?

Yuna’s probably working on it.
500 million new corona cases PER DAY!?
Novil seems quite familiar with US news…
We can’t live in a lockdown forever! They better reopen once it gets down to 100 million per day!
@ Marteri:
Eh, it’ll be fine once they explain Ye Thuza is the happily married mother of Sanda’s boyfriend who is very protective of her. Once they get to know each other, they will probably bond scarily.
Hey, at a rate of 500 million new cases per day, it’ll be finished in two weeks.
No! NOT the secret tunnels to the South Pole! Well, at least the super secret tunnels to the North Pole are…why is this tunnel full of salt water? No. NO! NO!!!!
Jailbait Japanese girl comes straight to your doorstep. If that ain’t a jackpot, I don’t know what is.
What about secret bases, billionaire’s bunkers, ships, and unidentified objects ?!!?!?
So the dangreous thing that was gonna happen at 8:37 was that the news started a Covid-19 segment with a build up that there would be 500 million new cases per day soon?
Was it ever said that the dangreous thing would happen to Sandra directly?
500 million per day? aint it like the whole population of Earth in just 2 weeks?
8:37 big new thing is Stepmother? Please I want it to be stepmother…
Yeah, seems to be heading there. Down there scares the crap out of me…..
Trimutius wrote:
Yeah, it is, but since only about 5% +/- die from it, that’s a mere 400,000,000 people. Plenty more where they came from . . .
“Hi Sandra! Meet your new-”
*shot*
What about the lava moat? Can we go back to the lava moat now? *sad lava moat noises*

I mean, as a single father of an 13 year old girl, you can afford to fade out your daughter for a few minutes when a girl came from another continent to see you. Sandra probably won’t set fire to the house or built a lava moat while you aren’t watching her.

I think it’s a joke about how if you model covid19’s progression as an exponential curve it will grow exponentially forever and the experts in sandraverse were incompetent enough to just do that. Of course covid cannot grow exponentially forever so it needs to be modelled using a logistic curve.
If the US finally starts getting covid undee control, maybe we’ll only have 9.7 billion infections per day by 2022!
Well, at least we know for sure that she is at least older than 16 years as she quit school in the 10th grade. Assuming she worked in the cafe for some time, her age could be between 16 and 36 years, which is mostly legal. And knowing how japanese women under 40 look young regardless of their age, this is a reasonable assumption.
ps: Just one more thing: We all want to see the lava moat getting operational… so LAVA MOAT!
God just saw a bit about a nurse (Desmon Silva) that had covid and now he is paralyzed from the neck down due to complications. once again a pandemic is happening and the 1% of the 1% want to keep grinding out profit no matter the human cost. wear the fucking masks.
Panel 2: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
“And if not, Hitomi can always go back.”
Famous last words!
If things just were so simple in my life :/ With my girlfriend it is more like “I don’t want to leave home, you don’t want to leave home”, and both have good reasons.
@ kumesana:
well that means entire Earths populace would be infected in 2 weeks…
which well would actually end the pandemic, but the casualties would be terrible, and many would just have permanent damaged bodies for rest of the life.
Regis Earsquake wrote:
Larisa might.
Will Hitomi become an illegal alien? Will Desmon Silva recover? Yes, Mr. Silva is in the news.
crimson wrote:
well I understand that much, but still funny… how they used number which is larger than population of USA to do prediction about USA…
@ Zaphod Beeblebrox:
Or maybe he’s heading over to introduce Hitomi and Sandra for their first in-person meeting. And to introduce her to Professor Tyson and Ye Thuza, of course.
@ samhuff96:
Unless she marries a US Citizen.
Regis Earsquake wrote:
I meant that he forgot that he’s going to have explain this to her.
Thisguy wrote:
I agree completely, but I hope we will see the first encounter. 🙂
Cute. I like it.
@ Trimutius:
Hyperbole is a thing. I’m not sure I trust the current new case counts, since the growth curve flattened extremely suddenly when HHS took over the data collection. (Seriously, I don’t normally do conspiracy theory, and I am withholding final judgement until I have time to research the numbers, but if the curve I’ve seen is real, it’s stupidly obvious), but we are still trending upwards from ~55k new cases per day.
Regis Earsquake wrote:
Larissa, on the other hand…
Welp, that settles it. She can’t go home. Looks like he’ll have to marry her.
This man is not very good at keeping secrets.
Paeris Kiran wrote:
That’s still optimistic. Currently we don’t actually know, how long immunity lasts, but antibodies seem to vanish within two months. (Doesn’t mean, that the memory part of the immune system does not retain the ability to produce them, but it is at least not clear.)
So…she never meets Sandra even though they were in the same room? Good to know -.-

Nevermind. Realized it was a TV, not a ticket counter booth. I thought the last two panels jumped ahead of time, and it won’t let me delete my last comment, so…here we are.
